My wife and I regularly visit Cape May and The Merion is a regular stop for us. We like the location, the old school charm of the the bar and lounge area and the adjoining "Pheasant Room". The food quality is always worth the price though the menu rarely changes much. The reason for the rating it's the host/hostess personality and the management of reservations and seating. We made reservations more than a month in advance for a particular table. When we arrived, on time, we were informed that our table was not ready yet. We enjoyed a drink at the bar, listened to the piano player and passed 15 minutes. I checked in with the host and was told the table was just being served it's appetizer. Outrageous! We were eventually given a table far from where we wanted to be. This is not a case of a slow table, but of poor management and service. There are many good things about this restaurant, but the front desk is definitely not one of them.

Everything about the meal was perfect! Prompt service. A live pianist. Delicious rolls and muffins with three spreads. Ample bar options and wine list. Fresh fish. Don't miss getting the potato cup. We'll definitely be back.

25 min to place an order, 50 min to get the appetizer. Overcooked asparagus had to go back, steak needed 2 more min to medium-rare, backed potato was dry. The best plate to come out if the kitchen was key lime pie, made by the chef. So it seems that a pastry chef is trying to run the kitchen unsuccessfully. Don't recommend.

How does one rate a restaurant that is set in a beautiful old Cape May home, serves an amazing meal, and if you don't mind eating early offers an incredible low set price on a 3 course luscious dinner BUT, then has a server that makes you feel totally unwelcomed? Forget about being offered coffee or tea and couldn't possibly have separate checks (unfortunately, that might be a house policy).

My friend and I watched the other tables be served by smiling, friendly wait people with envy. If you enjoy a brusque, all business server ask for Kathy T.

Just had a wonderful meal at the Merion Inn. We went for the early bird prix fixe. We had the short ribs and grilled salmon and both were amazing. The portions were huge and we ended up taking half of it home. Didn t expect that. The service was great and we highly recommend this place. Almost didn t go because of some of the negative reviews we saw. This place is busy for a reason.

Just went here for dinner today and what a beautiful atmosphere. The food was AMAZING and our waitress was great ! We were outside dining because of covid and a rain storm came in but the tents saved us and the service accommodated all our needs. Will definitely be coming back here.

Three of us dined here on a Saturday evening . First of all the valet parking is welcome perk . Our server was amazing and knowledgeable, I could t of asked for a better experience .
We had chocolate martinis and the sunset beach , perfect .
I had the escargot, delicious , I could of had it as my main meal . Tender and sweet and the sauce was amazing . The stuffed lobster work the filet was scrumptious.
The salmon was as awesome and a good portion . The scallops were tender and sweet. The merion cup potatoes are something something to write home about . Even the vegetables were delicious and cooked to perfection. . We did order dessert , and brought them home for later .
I highly recommend The Merion Inn, the service food and atmosphere were perfect .

If the service would have been better, I would have given them a better review, but our server was very indifferent, and didn't put any effort into any degree of customer service. We only found out her name when the bill came. Even the host outside didn't welcome us, but instead just stated "have a seat" until someone came out and brought us inside. The only gracious, friendly employee was an older woman who came by to check on us. The food itself was delicious, but the service left a bad taste in our mouths. Food was 5 stars; service was 1-2 stars. If you don't want to work with the public, Amazon is always hiring.
