Trajan's markets are a place to go if you are passing through Rome.
Just below the road, it seems to walk through the streets of Imperial Rome among the tabernas characterized precisely by the large door that overlooks the basalt road.
I was able to go there shortly after sunset and the show was exceptional.

To visit.

To visit.
One feels catapulted back into imperial Rome. In addition there is the fact of having around works, friezes, statues found in the holes and that serve to understand and contextualize them.

Great place to see all the ruins and totally feel like you've gone back in time! So much history here with great views of the city. Would love to be able to visit here in the evening to take in a sunset. Good bathrooms are hard to come by in Italy but they are nice and clean here.

Built in the first years of the second century AD, the Markets of Trajan were intended, for the presence of warehouses, shops and offices of the imperial administration, for commercial and administrative functions.
The monumental complex, rediscovered between 1926 and 1934, is characterized by buildings that rise on several levels along the slopes of the Quirinale and by a lower part in the shape of a hemicycle that looks towards the Forum of Trajan.

Like all the monuments of Rome, it is an unmissable visit. From the terrace you can enjoy a view of the forum and the altar of the homeland unforgettable especially in the evening. It is certainly a little-known construction, but also accompanied by an app that allows its historical insight.

It is the oldest supermarket of humanity, created around 100-110 BC.
We were dealing with oil and wine, food, sundries, seafood and agricultural products.
Even in Rome, where there are many old buildings, I think that it will be a particularly old one here.
You can see an image of how products were arranged and what kind of business they were doing.
(Apart from whether or not there is any)

I think the entrance is only one place on the north side.
Inside is wider than I thought, and I think it will take several hours to look around.
Because there are many stairs, it may be better to pay attention to your knees.

You can walk through here on the raised walkway that connects the Monti neighborhood (via Campo Carleo) and the Forum. There is also a museum to see this from the inside - Museuo dei Fori Imperiali (enter on via Quatro Novembre)

You can view most of this from the outside, and that may be the best option, as the price tag to get inside is rather steep, and isn't included in the "archeology pass" that you can buy for the forum, even though the forum is next door. While I was there the area was under construction, which meant navigating was difficult. The entrance is on side away from the forum, up the hill, but you can see most of the ruins from the lower side, near the forum.

Trajan's markets a 2,000-year-old buildings available to the public, an opportunity not to be missed.

The markets of Trajan is a nice museum, I was there on Tuesday in December and the museum was practically empty, which allowed me to visit it in peace.
Trajan's market is full of things to see, there are also many rooms used to watch very interesting interactive videos.

There are many descriptions to read and many things to photograph.
The museum is clean and well organized.

Inside there are bathrooms and vending machines for drinks and snacks.
To see all that the Trajan market offers, it takes 4-5 hours, it is definitely worth it.

To do absolutely!

To do absolutely!
Although a little expensive (14 but eligible for the Roma Pass), it is a place with very little traffic: everyone focuses on the Roman forum and not on this place. There is nobody !

You will be able to walk in the streets and establishments of the time, as if nothing had changed. It is beautiful and very informative. In addition, the museum offers an introduction to the imperial forums found along the Via Imperial Forums that leads to the Coliseum. It is therefore essential to do!

Feel free to take the video guide (6 ) (one for the group is enough) fully profitable: it offers the map of the museum, photos, drawings and reconstruction, 3 courses of 50 minutes to 1:30 on architecture, mythology or power and architectural elements, a "timeline" mode, and finally, as soon as you enter a new zone, a notification offers to explain it to you.
The little extra, yet essential: the explanations are made in the form of a dialogue between the Emperor Trajan and his architect Apollore, so it's fun, educational, not at all boring and informative.
So do not hesitate to get lost in these markets of Trajan, you will not be disappointed.

Plus: there are disabled access everywhere.
