We enjoyed our supper in the restaurant, then saw a wonderful performance of Fiddler on the Roof. Great singing, acting, music and dancing

The buuilding is beautiful and has been renovated but with all of the original features which is so lovely. The restaurant is wonderful serving an array of foods at reasonable prices. Theres also a theatre and an art gallery which makes for a great evening. I would bring friends family and even a date!
Really enjoyable meal before Spamilton and the air conditioning was FAB with the outside temp 33degrees today.
Pre show food was not as good as last time, burger undercooked
Love this intimate little theatre with it's own restaurant. Have seen many wonderful productions here which have gone on to the West End. A favourite!
The Foodie Night at the Menier Chocolate Factory on Friday, 22nd November was brilliant, we had a most enjoyable evening. Our favourite course (one of six served with complementing wine) was the treacle cured beef fillet (melt in the mouth) served with sauteed baby gem, carrot puree and roast potatoes and a tastebud tingling cabernet sauvignon. Thank you to all concerned, chefs, waiting staff and sommelier who gave a comprehensive summary of each wine. We look forward to the next Foodie Night!
Everything here is perfect.
Everything.
Great menu, wine list could have more by-the-glass options, attentive staff.
Great place to see Sondheim shows in an intimate atmosphere.
Love the place. Didn't necessarily love the play we went to that prompted this request to review.
Trevor Nunn did it again!Bravissimo!
The play The Fiddler on the roof is based on Sholom Aleihem's story Tevye the Dairyman and is very touching, sincere and sad story.
One of these musicals which don't end well and yet amazing plot, great lytics by Sheldon Harnick and outstanding music by Jerry Bock create an unforgetable evening.
Andy Nyman is a great actor and very convincing Tevye though a bit of a voice could help.
Matt Corner as Fyedka is really getting there.I thought he was russian. All girls were simply spot on.
May be worth leaving more space to sit next time-felt a bit crowded but didn't spoil the play.
It's been a while since I've given a review but this restaurant is definitely worth 5 stars. Excellent food and friendly service. We had a shared Mediterranean platter to begin with, and the lamb shank and chicken mains, along with a very interesting pinot noir from Tyrol. The menu has so many fine choices that I would return just to try them. The wines range from 25 to 100 GBP. When we arrived at about 8pm the place was full but thinned out once the theatre show started.
I've seen some amazing productions here. The quality often exceeds shows in bigger west end theatres. I would highly recommend.
Great service at the restaurant before seeing a performance.
Great restaurant - lovely food, excellent service. And a traditional theatre in an unusual setting.
Great little theatre. Chairs are a little uncomfortable so I wouldn't reccommend if you've a bad back
Great space and good views of the stage from all angles.
Always a pleasure to be here both for the food and the theatre
Located south of the river near London Bridge station, the Chocolate Factory has had an historical record of good productions. The theatre is small but seating and stage design is flexible and creative. Shows start at 8:00 pm which gives you time for dinner on site.
The best off-West End theatre to catch brilliant shows before they transfer, particularly the musicals of Stephen Sondheim. Amazing restaurant too.
This place sounded right up my street. A restaurant in a former chocolate factory? Say no more, I'm sold.
I'd been tasked with finding a restaurant for lunch before we went to see The Comedy of Errors at The Globe (more on that soon) on Friday. We needed to be close enough to dash off to our seats once we'd eaten our fill, didn't want anything too expensive and didn't want a chain. That narrowed our selection down quite significantly so after some Googling and Try This For-ing, I laboriously booked the Menier Chocolate Factory for our pre-theatre dining.
It was never going to be easy though, was it? My mum's train was delayed which meant we had to push our table back (which was fine) and hotfoot it down the packed South Bank to Southwark. Finally arriving at Menier, we were greeted with a beautiful old warehouse building that, true to its name used to be the site of a chocolate factory, now houses a restaurant, bar, rehearsal room and theatre. We had just over forty five minutes to order and eat which was always going to be a push, despite the very friendly and accommodating staff, so any expectations of a relaxing lunch went completely out of the window.
Saying our goodbyes, we fled back to the river just in time to take our seats for what, of course, would be the showstopper of the day. Shakespeare, of course, can do no wrong. Menier Chocolate Factory, on the other hand, gets a two and a half out of five from me.
Lovely set, heartwarming, fun, musical. A good cast
Well setup so all seats had great views of the stage.
Brilliant food. I recommend the lamb rump, if it's still on the menu.
All seats are good seats, so book away if the only seats left are at the back
Great space, a surprise when you see the size of the theatre and the fabulousness of the production values. Never a disappointment
A very unusual and quirky performance space with couches set up on varying levels. I saw the Beethoven Orchestra for Humanity perform here and it was truly magnificent. The basement auditorium has incredible acoustic resonance and the sound envelopes you. Being a smallish venue, you feel more involved with the performance than a mere observer which helps create uniquely special memories. Even being taken through the corridors into the theatre is part of the spectacle. Bravo!
Fantastic theatre. Brilliantly creative, bringing consistently high quality theatre in an intimate setting
Consistently amazing productions of new and old plays and shows.
Been several times and always had excellent food and excellent theatre.
Great theatre with a lovely restaurant attached. One of my favourites!!
Show was great fun. Seats around 2 sides of performance so could see everything well.
ALWAYS excellent, and always an inventive set menu to accompany the play.
Very intimate theatre, although you are packed in pretty tight, especially if the person next to you is a little tubby
Lovely place to stop for a coffee in the afternoon.
Love this little theatre. Went to see Adrian Mole the musical fantastic uplifting production well done to all. Ate in the adjoining restaurant who design the set menu and cocktails around the production ...fun
This used to be a choclolate factory and is now a theatre and restaurent. The space is lovely. It's fille dwith history and is very interesting. the food is also nice but very expensive for what it is.
The theatre is great. i recently went to see The Colour Purple there and it was incredible. Great theatre space and there's not a bad seat in the house.
For the theatre, take cash, as it's a cash bar only. It's more a theatre trip kind of venue.
I adore this theatre! You get to see the shows with big names in an intimate setting before they hit the west end.
We went to see Barnum with Marcus Brigstock and Laura Pitt. A fantastic play enhanced by a most striking theatre (in the round) where you can almost touch the actors. A highlight of our year so far.
I've never been disappointed by any of the plays I've seen here. Fiddler on the Roof, which is currently on, is amazing.
Absolutely disgusted about last night, we had got badly delayed in traffic, so I got out of the car leaving my wife to park the car, I explained to the girl on the door and she said that there would be no problem as our seats were right at the back of the theatre; however, when my wife got there the box office manager would not let her in and was extremely abrupt and unhelpful. Shame as the show was good but we will never go back.
Theatre seats are uncomfortable and younger a bit squished!
A really fun place to eat just south of the river. Cosily tucked away at the London Bridge end of Southwark Street is the superb trio of venues that make up the atmospheric Menier Chocolate Factory: a superb gallery space often showcasing rising artists; the glorious small theatre with a fantastic record of brilliant productions and West End and Broadway transfers; and, by no means least, perhaps the less well known but stonkingly good restaurant.
Let me say right off... don't just eat here pre-theatre, although that's always a value added choice on the cost of your tickets. The Menier's restaurant offers a fun dining experience for a night out with friends and, if you time it post-curtain, the pre-theatre frenzy quietens to the more gentle thrum of casual dining, sprinkled with friendly laughter, in a split-level room furnished fairly eclectically and decorated with theatre posters and photographs. More about that later. It's a good room, served by enthusiastic and knowledgeable waiting staff who know their business, are fun, and offer engaging, relaxed but efficient service.
The menu is not extensive but well chosen by a chef on top of his game... bistro fare you might argue, but all the better for that. We enjoyed sharing platters as starters - all three off the menu at our table of 6 - and they were all super. The melting Camembert, the falafel, and in particular a gorgeous beetroot dressing cut with mint... were standouts; and had some of our party demanding the recipe for the beetroot sauce! These choice dishes helped get the laughter and chatter going at our table for sure. The mains offered an amazing long pork chop as the star - beautifully presented and succulent to eat. There was also a glorious tortelloni that I've marked down as a future choice. Off course I'm going back! Soon!
The only bum note struck me in the decor. I was seated facing a giant poster of La Cage aux Folles, a stand-out Menier production that transferred to the West End and Broadway. They should be rightly proud, and it's a fabulous colourful poster... except it isn't of the Menier original but showcases one of the West End casts. Douglas Hodge won best actor awards in London and on Broadway for creating his role of Albin in the original production and its transfers. Yet the theatre is decorated with a poster that plays up the undoubtedly better known Graham Norton, who was one of a series of people that took over from Douglas in the West End. Shame!
We went to see Fiddler on the roof excellent production. We also had dinner there and the food was very good.
I've seen many wonderful productions here, the last being "Funny Girl". Wow!
Saw "Adrian Mole: the musical" here and it was beyond excellent. Really top quality show for the small theatre.
A wonderful venue: intimate and welcoming. Excellent performances with Dine + Theatre options
Long wait as very busy food was tasty and appealing.
Intimate theater: great actors and stories to tell. This time a musical. We didn't eat there this trip but have in past and enjoyed it. Walking distance from Tate Modern
Just watched the matinee of Barnum. Absolutely fabulous! Another amazing production from this wonderful theatre. The cast gave brilliant performances; Laura Pitt-Pulford was outstanding as Chairy Barnum, and Marcus Brigstocke was wonderful in the lead role - his singing skills weren t necessarily award winning, but his humour and amiability won through. The ensemble were however, without exception, spell-binding. Truly magical. A must see!
One of the best theatres i've been too!! They put on amazing shows that you would not normally find on the West End.
Often find Sondheim shows on here too, an absolute treasure!
Beautiful theatre with a generally pleasing line up
Such a special place. We saw Bridges of Madison County which was superb.
The Menier Chocolate Factory is an 180-seat off-West End theatre, which comprises a restaurant, bar and rehearsal rooms
Went to the Restaurant which is superb, all different priced menus and good atmosphere! Followed that with the show 'What's it all About' which was absolutely fantastic. Would go and see it again! The theatre is interesting and intimate!
Barnum was the most amazing live performance I have ever seen. The Chocolate Factory was the perfect venue and I would highly recommend a visit.
Delicious chocolate dessert and cocoa. Stopped by for a sweet dessert.
Mostly genius theatrical productions - pre-theatre restaurant is enjoyable too
Absolutely wonderful space for theatre. Everything I've had the pleasure of seeing here has been outstanding.
Food is also great quality. Fantastic place.
Great food, particularly the chocolate brownie dessert. Watched Travesties afterwards which was a good play.
Intimate theatre with enjoyable restaurant.
I've seen some very good productions here with the benefit of being right in the action. The theatre layout typically had no more than about 6 rows, so you're never far from the performers.
Restaurant does good simple food, which you can either enjoy stand alone or add as part of a theatre bundle. It used to be that desert was served during the intermission, but can't say whether that's still the case.
Would definitely recommend as an alternative to the more traditional West End theatre experiences. Especially at it gives an excuse to visit the Borough Market area beforehand, or after for continued nightlife
Wonderful place with great shows and a great in-house restaurant
A great theatre seating can be laid out in the round encouraging audience involvement. There is a restaurant there too serving healthy options. Altogether a good night out with easy access to London Bridge station
