Good food and atmosphere. Haven't visited in quite awhile but I am sure that hasn't changed.
Good food and atmosphere. Haven't visited in quite awhile but I am sure that hasn't changed.
The waiter Bryan was great! The food & drinks were absolutely delicious! The best chicken & waffle I have had in a long time. Now lets talk about the Chocolate Girl Martini!!! Off the chain. I will definitely visit again.
Delicious I ordered the eggnog waffles with fried chicken delicious we also had the catfish with collard greens with macaroni and cheese to die for the sweet potatoes. Delicious the garlic mashed potatoes, heaven. Comfort food comfort food amazing would go back here multiple times whenever I visit New York
I had a Thanksgiving meal. It was okay; but, not a suitable substitute for a cooked meal.
Great food! Great staff! Great vibe!!! Really liked the Stevie Wonder Birthday song that they sang for a patron celebrating their birthday.
The food was so nourishing! Will go there again next year!
Great southern soul food. Best catfish and collard greens ever.
The food was good. It was a little bit. I did not like the containers. Bought 2 strawberry Henry's for $28 each! Overall ok.
Always a great time all the food is good. Cozy place with great vibes
Great option for soul food in Harlem, unfortunately the food in inconsistent. Some nights it's great and others it's just OK.
The service and food was excellent will be going back soon defineatly recommend this place!
I love Melba s food. The shrimp is always fresh and delicious. However, I did a takeout order for sweet potato pie. It was a disappointing sliver of a slice. I wish I could share a picture. Just a side note: The man handling the front entrance was very rude to the UBER drivers picking up the food. He was condescending. His comments sounded as if he was superior to the drivers. I thought that was unfortunate. I took a star for that.
Love Melba's. Never a disappointment. Had a great time with my sisters.
The food was amazing! So far this is my favorite soulfood spot for brunch.
Visited for the first time with a friend and if I could give this place ten stars I would. From the amazing food to the impeccable service, i couldn t wish for a better experience. The manager and our waitress for the night were extremely attentive all while tending to another large group (about 15 ppl) I highly recommend this place for anyone living or visiting NYC.
Unless you hate great food, fantastic service and a good time, You won t regret it
The food taste terrible yams taste like they came from a can and the greens we're very vinigary in taste. Nice atmosphere staff is very nice overall view need improvement with the cooking of the food.
They serve a great brunch. The chicken and eggnog waffles were well worth the trip.
Absolutely fantastic place to have a meal with family and friends. My daughters and I had dinner and low and behold, Neil Patrick Harris was there with his family and kids. No one bothered him and it seemed as though he was home. Very comfy indeed.
It was just okay. The collard greens good. Potato salad had better. My homegirl & I ordered the crab cake and white meat with chicken and waffles. The chicken was greasy but the waffle was good. Crab cake was not tasty my homegirl called it a tuna cake lol. No napkins, the waiter said he come back to help with drinks he never returned. This place lost its luster.
I ve been here a handful of times & all the food is phenomenal! The atmosphere is beautiful. Service can improve, they re just not that friendly.
I used to love Melba s, I don t think I ll be back after tonight. The food was just okay, I feel it s bland now. They have expanded, it was like one server in our section. We ordered to go (a meal) and somehow that came out before our actually sit in food. We order an appetizer, that apparently went to another table; therefore rhe didnt charge us for it. All the best with the restaurant!
Great restaurant, great vibes, fast service. Order food and within in 10 minutes food was here. Service was great very attentive. Our waitress was Fallou and he was such a great person with great suggestions. Will return
Went on Valentine's Day and everything was excellent. Had reservations and was seated immediately. Appetizers came out in record time. Entrees were tasty. The crowd was lively. I will be back again.
Food outstanding. Service struggles since expansion.
I will admit its pretty expensive. However, you'll leave full and satisfied!!
The food was tasty.....wish they gave more chicken. The mac and cheese was AMAZING
The food is great, but I ve been waiting about 2 hours for my food. Me and my kids just had got in Nyc from PA which is 4 hours away, we stopped here first starving. No one should have to wait so long to eat
The food is good, however I spent over a hundred dollars for dinner and was served by paper bag as if I ordered to go at the table. And was given cheap/flimsy forks and knives in plastic like you get in the fast food Restaurant which I don't eat at, it was crazy. We also had to wait on our waiter way to often.
I just wanted to say how amazing the food and service is here. Your server was the best I ever had. She was so sweet and great at giving advice on what to try. I had the pleasure of of meeting Melba herself and she is even more magical in person. So sweet and welcoming. I literally felt like I was back ins St George , SC eating at my aunties house! Can't wait to come back Tuesday for the live Music.
Good southern food and drinks are served at Melbas on 114th Street in Harlem.
The fried chicken, ox tails and fried catfish are allsolid choices.
First time here. Good food great customer service. I will return!
Awesome atmosphere...welcoming as you enter the door...customer service at its prime!!
I love melbas!!!! Im in here every other week, the food is delicious and it just feels like home everytime i come. Its my favorite restaurant to go to.
The food was okay. For appetizers I had the soul rolls they were pretty good, they were stuffed with mac n cheese, collard greens, and rice n cheese. I had the salmon, mac n cheese, and rice n beans. The macaroni was very good, the salmon could of used some seasoning, and the rice n beans were very dry. To drink, I had the strawberry henny and it was nice and strong! Overall, nice atmosphere. I would go back again.
Excellent ribs and oxtail. Worth the visit uptown with friends.
IMPORTANT. For All Event Planners out there, DO NOT use Melba's for an event. You'll be VERY embarrassed. I still can't believe that with a 100% pre-paid confirmed dinner for 43, my entire party was left standing outside on the sidewalk for Over 30 minutes!!! I had even called and spoken to the manager on duty that evening, Velda, and asked her if I should call her from our coach when we were on the way. She said, "No."
Nothing about the event or evening was Professional. They served approx. 12 people champagne outside, but that was it. Everyone else was wondering where there's was. Velda should NEVER have seated people KNOWING that we were coming. When the people eventually got up, the room was cleaned in such haste, that a slimy piece of bacon was left on the floor. Of course, that was the 1st thing that one of my corporate clients noticed. I bent down in my dress and picked it up.
The service was terrible. They have a tacky card system where everyone has to write down their order and their name. I was willing to live with it if it worked, but it didn't. Every other plate either had the wrong side dish or the wrong entree. Another client, after waiting forever for his plate, said, "At this point, I'll eat anything." Not everyone got dessert.
The food is fine. THe staff was nice, but sooooo inefficient. I waited a bit to post this to see if Melba (who was supposed to be there but wasn't) ever reached out to apologize. She didn't. ENOUGH SAID.
First time at Melbas and was pleasantly pleased. Food was great
I agree that the food here is great. I've ordered food for delivery from here twice. The first time, fantastic. The second time they forgot an order of chicken and waffles and a salad. I ended up with two meals to split between four people.
Uber gave me back $13 of the nearly $38 bucks they owed me for the food I didn't get and refused to give me anything else. They said the restaurant gave me my other food...well, I didn't get it.
So yeah, go eat there, but don't get it delivered!
Great tasting delicious soul food at this harlem establishment!!! Went here last sunday morning for brunch! Had the smotherd chicken and egg nog waffles with a mango mimosa! Enjoyed my entire meal from start to finish and my server was very attentive! The only thing is they dont serve complimentary cornbread while your waiting for your food like most of the other soul food spots in the neighborhood which I found to be odd. Cornbread is a soul food classic! Other than this place is legit! I would come here again.
Great food, live music, good drinks, affordable menu
Food was good but could have a little more seasoning and the quantity of the food could have been a little more with the price u pay
I was biking with some buddies and we were in the area, so we decided to stop at Melba's and eat. It was 5 of us, and we were all in agreement that the food was good! Also Covid compliant!
The atmosphere was nice and we had a van tastic waitress name Alicia. But the meat portions were not enough most establishments give you two pieces of fish, and the drinks were not consistent in appearance. I had to send it back because it just didn t look good at all. And what restaurant do not have bread #BlackRestaurantsNoCornbreadNoNothing. What made my experience nice is with the good company I kept that night .
Just have cat fish and forget about it..
This place is awesome!!!
Delicious make you feel good soul food
I love the food here. I always start with catfish strips but everything is delicious. It gets full fast so expect a wait in the evening.
I went to melba on sunday that was Easter sunday. When my brother and i arrived at the restaurant it was still closed. It opens up at 5pm on sunday. When the manager (Nicholas) came out he ask everyone if they had reservation. My brother been to this restaurant several times because he enjoys the food. We had no reservation . We were able to go in. Its not what you know is who you know. I ordered the grilled salmon. Sweet yams, potatoe salad and mac and cheese. And for dessert i had the coconut layed cake. The food was delicious. The mac and cheese was great. The grilled salmon was well seasoned.. I never had potatoe salad like this.If you have a sweet tooth then you would like the layed cake. It was a little to sweet for me but i took it home and eat it with my tea. I would differently recommend this restaurant. I would also recommend making reservations because the place its not to big but just the right size. And one more thing the music was very soulful.
Baby when I tell you this food amazing!!! Everything was perfect
Great hosts. I know this wonderful family of cooks. Mrs Sylvia woods is Mrs Melba's Aunt. Janie may. The Dollard family. Lovely people
I just went here the other day for my sons birthday and the waitress was soo weird, and acting annoyed! The food was not good at all! My bf had the ribs they where so tough, I had the catfish with Mac and cheese, and yams. It was such a small serving and the Mac and cheese had way to much cheese and it tasted sour! I m The waffle and chicken my son finished so im assuming it was good but the food was definitely not worth the price I m not coming back!
Food was delicious. Can't go wrong with soul food. The restaurant could use a little fixing. A couple of our tables were uneven
Had the catfish & greens. As usual Melbas in Harlem, never disappoints!
Really nice restaurant in the heart of the city, Harlem. 114th street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard. The chicken and waffles were the best. Great music played while you eat throughout the restaurant, featuring friendly staff.
The new host at the front, short guy is super rude and as a regular at melbas I was disappointed at his attitude.
Great food and the view from the middle of the street..was an extra joy.
This is a gem of a restaurant. The fried chicken is really good. The mac and cheese is bomb. We wanted to eat more because it was so good. The waitress was so nice and knowledgeable. The whole staff is great.
Today my family and I had our Celebration of Life function at Melba's. I must say that the service provided by this establishment was truly outstanding. The staff provide to us were exceptional to say the least. All I can say is that the food (everything we ordered) was absolutely delicious. I will definitely be recommending Melba's to everyone I know, I thank you Melba and entire staff for the warmth and exceptional service provided to our family at this time of bereavement. Will surely be back!
It was my first here at Melba's. A friend brought me there. I'll be back!! I had their signature fried chicken be w Eggnog Belgium waffles outside eating! 20 min. But worth the wait
Find was excellent and all real no canned or frozen food
Amazing food. Amazing atmosphere. Easy to get to. Large space. Large selection. Will totally be returning.
Went to Melba's for a small birthday gathering. We were in the back room. There were 8 of us. I ordered the fish and chips but the fish they gave me was catfish! I never heard of catfish being served for fish and chips. It's usually cod. So I sent it back because I don't like catfish. They substituted it for pecan crusted tilapia. It was decent.
Melba's Restaurant located in Harlem offers a large variety of soul food items on the menu. The collard greens and Chicken and Waffles are just a few of my favorite items to choose from. One of the few remaining soul foods restaurants in harlem Melba's decor is comfortable and excellent customer service.
Totally awesome great food great time atmosphere too is great the pandemic has a tendency to interfere with the atmosphere and thats with most establishments during these unprecedented times but overall great place to dine and the owner is a complete gem love her to pieces my sister
The waffles and chicken are absolutely delicious and the desert sizes are for sharing. I will definitely be going there again. They don't offer coffee during the evenings but were willing to make me coffee. The staff was very attentive.
The quality and taste were very good. I'll be back sometime.
One word: Delicious. As one of the black owned businesses left in the are I had to go. The chicken and waffles were delicious and the brunch cocktails were strong. I'd go back over and over again.
Food was real Soul food. Everyone excelled themselves
Great chicken and waffles and great drinks. Open mic night is great.
