Mediterranean Restaurant Review

One of the best kept secrets. Lets spread the word. A busy place with great selections. Lots of product to choose from in the shop.

Mediterranean food stuffs at high prices. But it is quality food. But very pricey. I suppose they have to import it from southern Europe, so that must add to their prices. Still, they are very costly.

I was looking for preserved lemons & had visited Countdown Hornby where I was told that I would find the product @ Mediterranean Food in Tuam st.
What an interesting place & choices of food, there's cheese, oils, meats, breads, ice cream that's not ice cream if you know what I mean, it's got another name & its yummy lol. And then there's all the other stuff - go take a look-there's wine, tinned stuff, bags of stuff & to cap it all there's these dinky little shopping trolleys that you can use to keep all the stuff you want in. Clean tidy colorful & the staff very polite friendly & helpful.I noticed seats & tables maybe they do afternoon teas or maybe they are there to plonk yourself down on & discuss what you have bought.
Will I be going back? you betcha it's a great place to get something different & make the next meal tastier .

Quite a variety of 'gasp' Mediterranean foods, has quite an Italian focus. This is for the store, I haven't been to the restaurant part.

Nice array of Mediterranean foods and wines. Stopped by the cafe for a beautifully cooked pizza. Delightful

The coffee is good. Macchiato is very good in fact.

Service and surroundings were excellent. Cannot fault that. Only gave 4 not 5 stars because the fettucine tasted "quiet" and struggled to get any real flavour out of the bowl. Despite getting to the oil in the bottom the meal was still subdued. Perhaps this is a personal expectation ? but a stronger taste, more cheese, more basil ... would have encouraged the fettucine to be more than just "pasta and mushroom sitting limply in a bowl " ??

Very disappointed, Staff ignored me standing at the counter although one older woman looked straight at me, I gave up and went elsewhere.

Absolutely gorgeous place! We love the food, the service and the shopping. We spend all our money here happily. The staff are so helpful and the selection is fabulous.

Great coffee, great food, nice vibe and good range of grocery items BUT, not for the first time, the whole experience became a let-down at checkout where it sometimes feels as though I m causing an inconvenience to the otherwise uneventful day of the blonde woman on the grocery till by buying grocery items from MFC. Time for some Kiwihost or similar training??

Great little mediterranean produce store with a fantastic cafe attached. The pizzas are some of the best I have had in the last few years with a great base, nice tomato sauce and simple toppings.

Excellent range of products and great quality. The setting is also very nice. The only complain is the prices are too high.

Excellent range of imported Italian / Mediterranean food, condiments, wines, and non alcoholic beverages . Great restaurant and coffee.

Looking for something different? This is a little slice of the Med, slap bang in the middle of an industrial area. I must have driven past so many times and never noticed it. The food here has a true authentic flavour and they have a good selection of wine. The service is just as slow as any Med restaurant, but in the cool, comfortable surroundings, it adds to the laid back atmosphere. A good place to go with friends for a noisy, round the table family style meal, or grab a romantic table in one of the alcoves. Think creamy carbonara with a carafe of zesty white wine and you will definitely get the vibe of this gem. To boot, the shop attached has an amazing selection of fresh pasta and goodies from across the Med...go on, spoilt yourself!

Want to go to the Mediterranean, visit the Mediterranean Food Co. in Chch. Lovely food lovely surroundings. Great grocery shop on site so you can take home some newly discovered delights. A great cafe dining experience.

Horrible customer service, I won't back back to this place ever again. I was having a lovely time with my friend when after we finished our meals the guy came to us and said " I really need the table" and we weren't there not even an hour! Super rude

Brilliant supermarket for Italian/european groceries! Freshly baked focaccia is the best I have tasted. Cafe in there has great food esp. the pizza & coffee too!

We go for good pasta in less common shapes, good rice, parmesan, and a few other bits and pieces.

Fantastic pizza! And they made a spcial platter for my 4.5 yr old. Very accommodating and fantastic range. We wouldn't eat pizza from anywhere else! A++

Was our first visit but definitely will be shopping for our Italian foods there again. A great range of products not available in supermarkets. Had a very tasty pizza in the restaurant while there. Highly recommend.

Wonderful service, food and good selection of European goodies

Called in to get pickled mushrooms. Stayed for pizza and coffee!! The aromas, the atmosphere, the staff what a fantastic place. Food delicious authentic!! Will definitely be back. A little pricey if on a budget at 24 a pizza but we'll worth it. Booking advised and parking is tight.

If you miss or are curious to try out Mediterranean food, this is the place to go. It's a bit expensive as you would expect because they import the food from Europe, but on special occasions it's worth it!

The pizza was burned, my friend s pizza came so late so that we were all done with our food when his was ready and when we complained we were told that we will be asked to leave next time we complain! , don t recommend, won t come back again

The food and service here is always outstanding! The lovely staff are more than happy to help, and there is a wide array of delicious food on the menu. It's a nice place for a catch up with coffee or a meal. We go back regularly for the tiramisu!

Bought something today at their Riverside Market store. Won't bother again. Too many other cool places to shop where you aren't made to feel you're an imposition. Really, customer service not their strong point.

Only place I've found ziti pasta. Only place I've found San marzano tomatoes. Fans of American recipes take note!

Great place to buy Italian and Mediterranean food to eat there and cook at home

The food was not as good as usual, I came back for gnocchi, this time they tasted like packaged ones do. Prosciutto salad with peach sounds good but in the end the dish is not balanced and flavours overpower each other. Chai latte was flat, 0 foam on top. The waiter didn t explain specials and didn t offer water on the table. ...just very disappointed, when you charge as much you should provide value. Not coming back anytime soon.

I love the Med Food Cafe! Everything is uncomplicated and fresh using the best ingredients, the service can be random it is like a family is running it not professional wait staff, but it's fine. The Gnocchi with gorgonzola is amazing and the salad with prosciutto peach and gorgonzola is so good I asked the chef how to make it (secret ingredient the pomegrante mollases dressing!) and have made it home a lot now. Always leave with a box full of goodies from the mini supermarket aisles to cook and eat at home. Quite expensive for the size of the dishes.

This central city grocery is specifically Italian focused rather than a generic Mediterranean grocer. You get the high quality Italian stuff and slightly cheaper versions made in Greece etc.. Good place to get fresh pizza dough and guanciale to make an authentic carbonara. Essential ingredients to making an Italian dish can be found here. Also a cafe and a restaurant. Friendly service, pricey as mainly imported. Secondary location now at Riverside.
