Went there today for lunch food was average but the service from the manager blew us away made us so comfortable and welcome. Just because of the excellent service we got I am giving it 5 stars regardless of the food being average. Also it has some stunning views would definitely go there again.

Had our wedding at McHughs. The place is beautiful with views to the sea and rangitoto from everywhere. The manager James was really helpful the entire time, he made us comfortable that we were always on the same page, and helped us plan for the big day. During the evening, everything went smoothly, the crew went above and beyond to make sure everyone ate and drank as much as they wanted. Everyone loved the food and desert selection, the menu offers good variety and you are able to choose based on your needs. This is a great place to have a reception after a wedding in church, considering the beautiful churches at Devonport make it an easy commute for guests. Thank you James and the team.

Took a high profile US visitor and his wife for a Sunday meal. They loved the casual setting, the view, and the food.

This is just an awesome place for a great lunch with an excellent view. Rangitoto in distance. The buffet has not of a variety but that is to my liking, just eating the little choice of great taste

I have walked past McHughs quite a few times and today was my first visit. Delicious, fresh, healthy, buffet lunch was just what I needed. Perfect.

Took parents here for their 40th wedding anniversary 2years ago. Such a great atmosphere. Beautiful view of the ocean, & so quiet. We were the only ones there and plenty to eat.

Lovely place to dine however the quality of the food has slipped considerably. The Tomato soup was very thin and watery plus the buns were rock hard, very dry and extremely crumbly. Mains seemed to be ok as we're the deserts.

Great place for events and has an awesome view of the beach and Rangitoto. Great food and amazing place to take pictures.

Invited to buffet lunch, it did not disappoint if you are after good old fashioned meals. View of Rangitoto sand beach also lend amazing views.

Being regulars there I was somewhat disappointed. The desert dish was filthy with food and hair in it. The glass I was given also had some solid foreign matter in the bottom if it.
I'm hoping that this is just a one off event and will review it again after my next visit.

A lovely venue for lunch recently, the position and view right on the beach was just amazing. The position is quite unique and one of a kind. The staff were very attentive and helpful to our every need. It has a very relaxed atmosphere and the food was very good at $30 each for a buffet lunch. A rare find indeed.

My mums 80th Birthday was held here at McHughs and lets just start off with that view once you enter into the restaurant, just WOW. Being that all my family are based out in South Auckland and West Auckland it was a drive but worth the drive out here in Devonport. Family hired out the whole restaurant out, so no outsiders and flow throughout was beautiful the food really enjoyed it, it was something different wasn't too heavy just right. The manager "James" was so accommodating to us and the staff were awesome. By far love this place.

The location is great but the food is really poor. Not much to really choose from.

Stunning location with a view of the beach and Rangitoto. Not a huge range of food selection but every single dish is super tasty, especially their crumbed fish!

I highly recommend McHughs to anyone who would like to host a special birthday there. The views, the food, the service is superb. The owners are so accomodating. I organised my sister's 50th Birthday to be held there & although I changed my booking so many times, they were very understanding. The restraunt was full but we felt like we were attended to & was given a special table for my sister to have her cake on,so we can sing Happy Birthday to her. So Thank You McHughs, my sister had a memorable birthday celebration.

This is my one of my all time favourite restaurants in all of Auckland. The staff and management are so hospitable and friendly. The service, view, and food are top notch. It's such a pleasurable experience dining here. Fresh hot food is always brought out, and dirty plates are taken away promptly. Everything about this place is why I decided to choose it as my wedding reception venue two years ago; and the reason I will continue to keep coming back.

We had planned to have our wedding at McHugh's as it is a stunning venue! However our guest list kept on growing to the point of being too many for McHugh's to hold so unfortunately we had to look elsewhere. James was very friendly and approachable during the whole process. We felt confident that he understood all of our plans that we had and had it all under control. Would definitely recommend McHugh's as a wedding venue.

Lovely setting, buffet was enjoyed bumy all the party covering all tastes. Most pleasant time.

Had my parent's 60th Wedding Anniversary at McHugh's 3 weeks ago. James and the team were exceptional to deal with. The food was amazing. All 70 people who attended are still talking about the great night we had.

Nice view and good food. But when we paid they charge 5nzd each without telling us before claiming that in december they charge more because christmas is coming.

Can t thank James and his amazing team for making our dream wedding a reality, with the stress of months of planning, after visiting James ,he made the process so easy and organised everything, from the food , wine , timings , speeches , Mchughs is the most beautiful venue for any occasion, we had 140 guests and not one complaint, we are still hearing the praises.
Ours being a same sex wedding was not a problem and anything we wanted , was granted .

Stunning views on a sunny day right on the Beach. Buffet lunch was not too much to choose from but what was there was lovely. Waiter was very welcoming as well

We had our wedding reception. What a spectacular view! We were lucky enough to have a high tide as people were coming in, and a full moon night where it w sitting just above the water! Absolutely stunning!

James, the manager made everything so easy! We were able to come in and set up most of the tables the day before. He had been very accommodating with our changes too.

The night went smoothly, thanks to James and his efficient staff. Everyone loved the venue and the food was delicious. We loved the lamb curry, the panako fried fish, pasta and the akaskan (dessert).

Magnificent views of the beach, the sea and Rangitoto from the coolinterior of this stylish restaurant. The lunch buffet was perfect and great value for money and the views.

Food is good. Service was very poor. Had to constantly remind the wait staff to bring food which she kept forgetting. Limited portion even though they call it buffet.

Usually excellent but quality and variety of food was only average on last visit. Service remains very good.

Very poor food quality and selections. Ran out of most foods and took a while to restock. Service was very poor and took ages to take away our plates. Recommend to go somewhere else for a lunch or whatever.

Lovely function room. My parents had their wedding reception here in 1959, and I have been to a couple of wedding receptions here. Nice location and great food, beverages, and staff.

McHugh's gave us a wonderful celebration of our Mum's 91st birthday today! the superb buffet lunch catered for everyone's tastes, including plenty of vegetarian options. it was yummy!! the service staff were very accommodating and helpful all day. of course the location on a sunny day with beautiful blue skies right on the water made it very memorable. thank you Raj, James and the team you have looked after us really well throughout. we will definitely be back!

Amazing location right on Cheltenham Beach in Devonport. The food however buffet is average at best.

Good food, great location if looking out over the waves is your thing. Go for a walk along the beach and finish up here for a good meal after your event.

Really nice food, especially the pork, cheesecake, curried lamb. Steak was a little chewy. The people working here are quick and professional. The one thing that bothered me was that the chairs really need a clean. Otherwise a good experience

The staff members are friendly and professional, and the restaurant have a very beautiful view and surrounding. The food unfortunately was just ok. The venue have a decent size wooden floor, and the restaurant is available for hire such as for weddings. Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn't have a dedicated parking space.

Food is great. Upmarket buffet style. The setting is beautiful too. Easy to park, great views. Only slight criticism, is the desserts seem to be a bit of an after-thought, often sometimes the restaurant is cold. Also, the staff, whilst always being polite and professional. could be a bit more warm and welcoming, there isn't much in the way of interaction going on.

Opened a century-old restaurant, the landscape is invincible, the price is close to the people, easy to eat, the dessert is perfect, the sea view beach is in front of you.
