Good food, reasonable prices, typical Jewish Deli selections. My corned beef sandwich was lacking flavor and my soup was a bit cool. They have fun trivia nights, comedy shows, authors and other speaker events though, and that is why I go.

Great food at reasonable prices. Return to Chicago twice per year - each time we stay nearby so as to eat at Max & Benny's - usually breafast and dinner. Amazing place.
The perfect place for great bread, breakfast, hot corned beef sandwiches, and my personal favorite; the matza ball soup.
We both ordered soup and half sandwich. All of their soups are comfort food. Each of us had the corned beef sandwich. Nice proportions. And of course the rolls beforehand are always good.

Ordered the lox platter and asked for a 1/4 lb of whitefish on the side. The waitress said cheaper to charge for an appetizer so ok. When I got the check I was charged 8.99 for the whitefish. When I asked the waitress how much is a lb. Of whitefish she said 13.99 . So I asked for a price adjustment and she sent the manager over. He was very rude and said you cant order like that in the restuarant, if you wanted 1/4lb you order only deli to go. In restaurant you can only order what's on the menu and that's the menu price. I explained this is my 3rd time in and how would I know that and delis all over the country let you do that. He said not here and was rude and told me to leave he doesn't need my business after I said I didnt want to pay the extra $5. So guess I won't be back. Btw waitress was very inattentive and she should have told me the policy.
Food is high quality, but you pay for it. Prices are not absurd, but also not considered a deal by any means.
Liked it - didn't love it. The pastrami sandwich, a signature item, was chewy and not as good as it has been in the past. Are they getting complacent?
Excellent salami omelettes great matzo ball soup. Fried matzo with salami, I'm there. Sweet and sour meatballs. These are a few of my favorite meals these. Find your own.
Great corned beef sandwiches. The potato pancakes not so much. The chicken broth was way too salty.

EACH TIME WE VISIT, WE TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT ON THE MENU AND ARE NEVER DISAPOINTED. WE STILL ENJOY OUR FAVORITE CRONED BEEF & CABBAGE. ALWAYS THE BEST SPECIAL ON THE MENU.

I had a house specialty of theirs, sweet-sour cabbage soup. I should have ordered the smaller size so I could have room for dessert. It was excellent. I picked up some things from the deli as well. Everything I have eaten or purchased here has been great.
The food is good but they have been very disappointing during Covid And all the door dash orders- they are so so rude and impatient.
The corned beef and cabbage dinner was super. Included soup or salad with rolls.

The food is plentiful and delicious, and the service excellent. I've been there several times and each time the wait staff has been delightful. Also, the manager - named Cookie - is the absolute best. She made our last visit there fun, welcoming and thoroughly memorable. More than five stars if I could.

We live in a deli desert, so we stock up at the counter when we visit so we can take home the incomparable and genuine deli stuff. We accept your sympathies. If a place like this opened up where we live, we'd single-handedly keep it in business.

They have a big menu, so everyone will find their deli favorites; bagels, matzo ball soup, corned beef, lox, pastrami, chopped liver, etc. They have a wide variety of sandwiches and salads, too. Carry-out is packed beautifully, so it always arrives in perfect condition. They have a fabulous bakery with awesome, novelty cookies. You can t go wrong with Max and Benny s!
I'm giving this place a 3 because the service was good but my $14 pastrami sandwich was barely edible with all the stringiness and fat. I know you can get a decent meal here but today was not the day.
The food was really good. The brisket was really juicy and tender. My daughter had the Reuben sandwich (which I tried some) and it was delicious. The bakery and deli are also a must! The chocolate cream, coconut cream, and Boston Creme pies are heavenly. We also bought a half dozen bagels, but haven't tried them yet (saving for breakfast). If they are half as good as the other items we have tried, I know I will not be disappointed.
WOW what a wonderful experience today at Max and Benny s. Our waitress was wonderful and concerning of all of our needs & the it was very good. And that DELI. !!! Words cannot express Our DELIGHTH with was available & Jose took Extra special care of out order. We will be back
Waitress, amazing. I order the pastrami sandwich with chicken noodle soup. The soup was amazing, as always, but the pastrami was so full of grizzle it was inedible. This is the second time that has happened. I'm done ordering that and going back to the corned beef. Really disappointing. It was so gross I could not even ask for something else.
Great Jewish deli and restaurant. Wonderful lox and onion omlete Great soups.. we've been going to Max and Benny's for years.and enjoyed every meal. The corned beef sandwiches are piled as high as Chicago's skyscrapers.

This is one great delicatessen! So glad we happened by. For pastrami and a Reuben - absolutely delicious. And the bakery is great too. Made for a great breakfast the next morning.
Max and Benny's has the best deli food bar none. And the same day bagels are the best that I have ever had anywhere, anytime. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a meal or carry out. You won't be sorry!

Great food and even better service. I ordered the corned beef omlette which was cooked to perfection. My only complaint was the hashbrowns, they were burnt on the botton but soft on top. Not how I usually like them but still good none the less.

Max & Benny's is THE BEST!!! Best deli experience in the United States!!! There is never a dull moment here -- it is ALWAYS busy! The dining room is very cozy and there is great energy; the deli is always loaded with good stuff and friendly counter staff; the bakery is in my opinion the best kept secret; they may very well have the best bakery in the north shore; they also are great for catering lox and sandwich trays; they also are great for business networking meetings and hosting large events in the back room; the owners Lester and Ben are a father-son duo and they surely have a well run operation and are doing everything right; I even know a guy who drives all the way from North Dakota for M & B's hard salami and other deli meats; Ben and Lester the owners are always charming to their patrons; a 5 star rating is appropriate for Max & Benny's only because a 50 star rating is not an option; Max & Benny's is simply THE BEST DELI IN THE COUNTRY AND POSSIBLY EVEN THE WORLD.

Not sure if theres new management or a new chef but the once best reuben in the area was mediocre and light on corned beef and the potato pancakes were worse...made with shredded potatoes. Seriously disappointed after going here for over 2 decades.
