Maude Hunters Pub Review

Received under cooked wings multiple times on a Wing Wednesday.

Maude's is my local go-to for a cold beer and good conversation with friends. You MUST check out their fries - they beer batter them and are incredible. Lots of university students so the place is always hopping and exciting! See you there!

Generally I enjoy coming here for music bingo night or otherwise. The food is exceptional pub food and some of the best you ll get. However, on busy nights on many different occasions the service has been downright terrible. It can be anywhere from 10-15 minutes before a server even comes by to say anything. I understand they re busy but at least drop a couple menus off and say hello. I would give them five stars if it wasn t for the terrible service.

I give Maude s 2 stars because they have a decent beer selection. The food quality has gone down BIG time. I mean it was never the best but at least it was decent. Not anymore. Slow service even though there were 6 people in the place. Might go back for a pint but don t waste your money on the food.

Food is great... It's not just greasy pub food... Lots of drink selection. Rather loud in evenings. Popular with UVic students. Always clean. Highly recommended from a returning customer who is generally hard to please.

A great pub for lunch, dinner, or just a bunch of drinks. Has a pretty good neighborhood feel, with a range of clientele from students to retirees. Great food and drink menu, with good variety and specials. Friendly staff. Can get a bit loud sometimes, but not to the point that it's uncomfortable.

It's a University pub but everyone is welcome. They have event nights and enough of the good beers in town. I suggest getting their special poutine.

Good food and atmosphere. Our server was very friendly and helpful. Try the smoked chicken burger on a pretzel bun it's excellent and the Kick Ass burger is a tasty beast.

We had wings, onion rings and beer. Great unique selection of brews, I had the Granville amethyst sour which was amazing! The wings were delicious, lemon dry rub was fantastic and the bourbon marinade wings were delicious. Our server was quick, efficient, and friendly. I'll definitely be back.

The food is good for the price, standard prices great selection. The staff are super chill and you're never left wondering where the service is. Music bingo , Wing night etc.

Just had a chicken burger. The worst burger ever. The meat was burnt! Very thin meat and all bun. The waitress response was the marks on the chicken were grill marks. The marks were actually black and tasted burnt.But the waitress said she inspected it ! (I didn't know the waitress was a chef). Had to pay full price. Very disatisfied. Told her we won't be back. She was okay with that.

Fries are good, cooks are good but waitresses and bartenders aren't the best And the owner didn't like that I spoke my mind. Still stand by the fries being good. Probably the only thing made in house on the menu

College pub, greasy food and cheap beer. Good at what it is.

Looking like some off-the-beaten-track-pub in England, this University crowd sports bar is good in the afternoon for lunch. Located just north of the McDonald's on Shelbourne, this restaurant/bar/pub sit above their great Beer & Wine store.

I had a good Chicken Burger and my wife had the overpriced Fish and Chips, fries on both were really good but my burger was dry around the edges and her little piece of fish was $15.

I have to complement the friendliness of the staff and great service, but next time, I'll order something simpler to make.

The staff is courteous and they serve vegan food which is awesome.!

Had a great time here. Waitress had personality and was fun, service was prompt and attentive. Would certainly go again.

Typical pub with some game options if you're feeling playful. Good spot to watch a game as they have many TVs. Also doesn't seem like the place to get overly loud on a standard evening.

Excellent brunch at Maude Hunters Pub today. Bethany and Haley (our servers) gave us fantastic service, and the food was fantastic as well. We'll definitely come back when we're in Victoria again.....Highly recommend !

The burger was HUGE! Really tasty as well. Great price for what you get.

Underrated Pub in Victoria, it is a good place to grab a drink with friends and eat lots of wings. The wings can be made gluten free which is nice for wing loving celiacs like myself and the staff is always really nice.

Mediocre food and overpriced. Loud space. Acceptable in a pinch, but not recommended.

Delightful pub with some of the most personable staff I've ever come across. They make you feel so welcome! I've only been a few times but I always enjoy my visits with a beer in my hand and a smile on my face.

What you expect of a pub near a university no upper shelves (aka scotch) but definitely a draft supply to keep a pitcher hungry group happy no matter the occasion!

Regular neighborhood pub. It is very loud. They have good wings. Sometimes the food is hit and miss. Great location.

Great wing and prawns night here on Wednesday. The servers are very nice and the wings are great. It is very loud here bit the crowd is mixed. All in all a great place to have a few drinks and wings.

Suicide Hot Wings were milder than the regular Hot Wings. Beer was cheap though.

After a barrage of vegetarian poutine options around town (mushroom gravy looks like vomit), the poutine at maudes changed my life.

The girls there are super sweet, ben the bar man is cool, foods good, brews cold, bam!

I like coming to Maude Hunter for music bingo night! I find it's usually a pretty good atmosphere with really reasonably priced appys! The service isn't always the best but it just depends on the server. Also looooove their battered fries!!

Took my wife and one of my staff there for dinner and we were all quite disappointed.
The host who was sitting us seemed quite grumpy and when it came time to seat is she literally just walked by giving us a wave motion and kept walking. She didn't wait to see if we caught her Motion(only 1 person did), no verbal communication and not once did she check to see if we were following her.

The waitress took our order in a somewhat timely fashion but food took quite some time which was understandable being busy.
By the time our food arrived all of our drinks were empty so we asked for refills. By the time our refills arrived we were all half way done our meals, it took ages and while we are waiting the waitress sat 2 other parties at there tables, took payment from 2 tables and served other tables there drinks. Clearly they are short staff which is 100% understandable right now but things are not being prioritied correctly and time could be better managed. I would rather wait longer for my bill then spend half my meal with nothing to drink.

The menu itself needs a larger variety of appetisers.

Food was kinda disappointing and was most certainly nothing to get excited over(all of us were dissapointed with our meals). My steak was quite a bit smaller then what a 7oz steak should have been. I didn't say anything to the waitress as I know the response would have been the weight is before they cook the meat which I know is the case but it was still smaller than it should have been.
For fries they only gave us a very small handful of fries each.

Both my wife and I left hungry as the portions we recieved were quite small.

My hopes is the owner will take this feedback and find ways to improve but unfortunately after reading the other negative reviews and the responses from the owner I don't think that's going to happen. I challenge the owner to prove me wrong.

A very good watering hole. Nice its close to home and I can stagger back without calling a taxi.

Great drinking spot for music bingo, but food is not up to par with other pubs in the area. Service is inconsistent, I've had great service, and I've had terrible service. Still a decent place to grab a quick bite. Entrance smells like urinals though.

Deep fired pickles is a single pickle, music bingo monday is a ton of fun.

Standard pub food. Tasty enough but no originality to the menu.
