Awesome Coffee, friendly staff. When I was working on the new Mater Mothers building, they used to open earlier so us die hard caffeine fanatics could get our fix before work.
Cheers Cora, Kelly and all.

Really awful treatment by front desk staff and, particularly, the doctor on first presentation to emergency. No staff introduced themselves by name or role, each made very little to no eye contact, doctor resented my asking for a wheelchair to follow her into a consultation room; and end result was a misdiagnosis of a "just a bruised foot", no pain relief or mobility aid offered (Dr advised a wheelchair would be "ridiculous" when I enquired about mobility options), and Dr ordered that I weight bear to prevent stiffening despite my communication of an inability to do so due to prohibitive pain. Actual injury, when diagnosed correctly next day by another Dr, was a broken foot (two bones broken several places) and a torn lisfranc ligament. Weight bearing on such an injury exasperates it and almost certainly leads to the need for surgical correction. Surgery was ultimately needed and a complaint has been initiated. Shame on the doctor for treating any patient so unkindly, irrespective of the careless diagnosis. Cultural change to a kinder mindset in the emergency department would be immeasurably beneficial to all the highly vulnerable patients that attend in need of help.

Waiting time sucked through emergency, but the staff were so nice, and their attention to detail was top-notch. The doctor attending to the ER last night was professional and she was super understanding. Would go back. Not that I hope I have to, but if I'm dying, Mater is yo man!

I cant even get cc d in on MY wheelchair trail date. I complain, I didn t sign a privacy wavier, i dont have to power of attorney I m physically disabled only, So OT, forwards me copy of email & writes on it, my coordinator name asking HER to confirm date is suitable..... Nasty! And they still speak to them, NOT ME! Second complaint, still, I Have no voice, I speak, I cry, I yell but they dont hear me, I have no privacy, say, or choice and control, I m the patient/customer and payee of services, BUT my OT, dont have the manners to speak to me. I am alive, but really I m dead. Who am I???? Anyone can call and have yr details and take over, no consent need. Invisible Anna

Just had a minor operation performed and I can honestly say that I have never been to a hospital where all of the staff were so lovely. From the voluntary staff at the greeting desk to the surgeons, they introduced themselves and explained the process, always with a smile. I explained to the anesthetist that I had experienced difficulties from past procedures and was delighted that I actually woke up refreshed from this op. Well done guys, keep up the great work - you all deserve medals for what you do for the community.

The quality of service one receives is way too varied in Mater Public. The antithesis of Mater Private. E.g. in Mater Public ...A&E delays crazy - initial triage done now by a junior clerk yelling thru a small hole in glass barricade who gets to decide whether and when u progress to a triage NURSE ...i saw an woman in her 80s being asked just how much blood she was loosing vaginally by a young clerical girl... a waiting area with about 60 people looked on. A cup or a spoon she asked louder and louder. The woman was mortified. When did the concept of the importance of good nursing and a bit of TLC disappear from the Public hospital landscape? The visiting specialist consultants seem totally PO (with good reason) with the ridiculously complex and dysfunctional hierarchy of medical staff (guess with so many fingers in a pie its difficult to know just who wrecked the pie). Administrative systems appear more of a hinderance than a help.
All that aside, i found the orthopaedic clinic excellent. As i said ... variable experiences.
Give up eating before your health insurance.

Staff are incompetent & completely unprofessional. I've been waiting over a month for a medical certificate after my surgery, my employer has requested this a few times. Every time I call them they seem to log a ticket, which then just "disappears". Because when I call back, they have no recollection of my previous calls. I am also randomly put on hold, where I suddenly get transferred to another department who has no idea why I was put through to them. I don't think anyone really knows what they're doing in the administraiton there, what a joke.

Was yelled at for asking if I could go home, I believe his words were your a waste of hospital resources and will end up in a bodybag. When I asked him to calm down abit he furthered his aggression towards me. I don't really care because the rest of the staff at great but seriously, what a f-head. #exceptionalpeople #exceptionalcare
