As zoo experiences go, Marwell is alright. Miss the crowds early or late in the day and it is really peaceful but watch out for the staff closing exhibits early before close. Some of the enclosures look great and spacious, others are quite small and not easy to see what you're looking for. Most windows were dirty. Highlights are the tropical house and Rhinos. The train is the best, if only way to properly see the Flamingos. Food and drink provisions are good and water fountains are dotted about. But the experience starts with a big hit on your credit card so definitely secure vouchers!

Love Marwell. Decent size, animals look well cared for and they have loads of them! Regular talks throughout the day and staff are always willing to chat about the animals with you. They had a dinosaur Lego exhibition on when I went too which was good fun for the kids.

Visited with our two young children, oldest a toddler. Very pushchair friendly and loads to see. We took a picnic and found plenty of spots to sit down, both inside or outside. For those wanting to buy lunch there is an excellent cafe and numerous huts or pitches selling ice creams, s

Brilliant zoo with animals in large open enclosures. Staff are all very friendly and you can tell they take the utmost care of their animals. Maybe avoid school holidays if you don't like it to be too busy though.

Lovely place for children and adults alike. Always something different to see (today the sloth was very entertaining trying to reach over to the public walkway by assuming some amazing positions) . Animals have nice sized enclosure, in comparison to other zoos I have been to, with some great enrichments. Fewer species than years ago but still well worth the visit and the annual pass gives access 363 days a year. Plenty of playgrounds and ice cream kiosks and toilets at regular intervals. Disabled access seemed ok . Pushchair friendly.

Lovely zoo. Social distancing was done well with 1 way routes and reminders to wear masks inside. Hand sanitiser placed everywhere too. Larger reptile and insect area would be nice but overall great day!

I took my one year old to Marwell, and he absolutely loved it. There are multiple play areas at the zoo, so if you're child is losing interest in looking at animals, there is plenty more to keep them entertained.

Nice zoo with a decent range of animals in predominantly open paddocks. Indoor facilities for the smaller animals and the reptiles are also pleasant and well designed. The new Tropical House is well laid out and informative. However, in our experience the amenities and customer facilities are overwhelmed on busy days. The queues for food in the cafe are too long; there are insufficient ice cream and other snack vendors; there aren't enough tables and the toilets can't cope. It's a shame that, for the sake of extra staff and a little bit more investment, this detracts from what would otherwise have been a fun day out.

I can remember going to Marwell Zoo as a child age now I'm enjoying it again taking my kids. So much to see and do. We love the giraffe enclosure and getting so close to the animals. Plenty of play parks to keep the kids amused. It's a full day out. The little train is great too.

Lots of different types of animals, with some you wouldn't normally see. Some enclosures are huge with lots of space for animals to move around in. Currently doing a Lego animal exhibition as well

About Marwell Wildlife

Marwell Wildlife: A Haven for Nature Lovers

If you're looking for a fun and educational day out with your family, Marwell Wildlife is the perfect destination. Located in Hampshire, this zoo is home to over 140 species of animals from all over the world. From majestic giraffes to playful meerkats, there's something for everyone at Marwell.

But Marwell isn't just a zoo - it's also a conservation charity that works tirelessly to protect endangered species and their habitats. By visiting Marwell, you're not only having a great time with your loved ones but also contributing to a worthy cause.

Let's take a closer look at what makes Marwell Wildlife such an exceptional place.

The Animals

As mentioned earlier, Marwell is home to over 140 different species of animals. These include big cats like tigers and leopards, primates like chimpanzees and gibbons, as well as reptiles like snakes and lizards. The zoo also has an impressive collection of birds ranging from tiny finches to majestic eagles.

One of the highlights of any visit to Marwell is seeing the giraffes up close. These gentle giants are one of the most popular attractions at the zoo and it's easy to see why - they're simply stunning creatures! You can even feed them if you want (for an additional fee).

Another must-see animal at Marwell is the penguin colony. Watching these adorable birds waddle around on land or swim gracefully in their pool will definitely put a smile on your face.

But it's not just about seeing these animals - it's also about learning more about them and their habitats through informative talks by knowledgeable staff members.

Conservation Efforts

Marwell Wildlife isn't just about providing entertainment for visitors; it's also committed to protecting endangered species through its conservation efforts. The charity supports various projects around the world aimed at preserving wildlife habitats and preventing extinction.

For example, one project supported by Marwell focuses on saving Grevy’s zebras in Kenya by working with local communities to reduce human-wildlife conflict. Another project aims to protect vulnerable marine life in Madagascar by promoting sustainable fishing practices among local fishermen.

By visiting Marwell Zoo or supporting its conservation work directly through donations or memberships, you're helping make a difference in preserving our planet’s biodiversity for future generations.

Facilities

Marwell Zoo offers plenty of facilities that make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. There are several cafes where you can grab snacks or meals throughout the day as well as picnic areas if you prefer bringing your own food (note that BBQs aren't allowed). There are also gift shops where you can buy souvenirs such as plush toys or books related to wildlife conservation.

If you have young children with you, they'll love exploring "Wild Explorers", which features interactive exhibits designed specifically for kids aged 3-10 years old including climbing frames shaped like giant insects!

Accessibility

Marvell Zoo prides itself on being accessible for all visitors regardless of age or ability level. Wheelchair users will find smooth paths throughout most areas while those who need assistance can rent mobility scooters (booking ahead recommended). There are baby-changing facilities available too so parents don’t have worry about changing nappies during their visit!
