My wife and I can recommend Marvin windows - our house is nearly 100% Marvin. However, be very careful if you decide to purchase a Marvin sliding door. Let the buyer beware. Take the time to see firsthand a representative model of the door for a game room, family room, living room, or any other large opening in your house. In our opinion, they currently offer very poorly designed and engineered doors. Ours required half a dozen service calls and five years later the issues are still not totally resolved. The initial problem was poorly adjusted shade panel cords that would break easily. The service technician installed a re-engineered retrofit which did not resemble what we selected from the catalogs/showroom of our local dealer - a cumbersome door offering unsatisfactory shade control, one gigantic panel instead of the three independent sections of window shades, and a clumsy latching/locking mechanism with a very small handle that barely fits the opening and is hard to close. Maybe the Marvin doors are improved now, but make sure you see the design in action first! And yes, we still LOVE our Marvin windows.

Purchased 8 sliding glass Marvin doors 9 years ago and one spontaneously combusted from the inside while the house was unoccupied. I contacted the Marvin sales rep at Riverhead building supply in Southampton NY. After a week of waiting for an answer the sales rep (who only saw my photo) said he spoke to both his installation and Marvin s super service depts and they concluded I must ve hit it as it is an impact break. I explained that was not true and there was no impact what so ever. The house is a second home and was unoccupied of which That door out of the 8 purchased is located above my AC vent and there were weeks of very hot 90 degree days then there was a sudden cool day and I came home to shattered glass.
This door is a stationary door in a back room corner with a plant in front of it and a table. It was never touched, or banged into as they tried to imply.
I would have to levitate myself over objects and somehow unknowingly bang into it. I would also have to be in two places at once being a 100 miles away. The assessment was absurd and impossible, and clearly a brush off.
I then decided to contact Marvin directly. The customer service person told me it sounds like it was spontaneous combustion, and this unexplainable event can happen, and that is only covered for one year.
Not only is this new warranty something I have never seen before, but it is also unacceptable. The spontaneous
combustion with Marvin glass windows and doors is a defect in their product, as explained by reputable sources online when googling.
I spent thousands of dollars on doors from Marvin, a company I thought was a solid honorable US company. Instead I am getting excuses and accusations, from the rep and Marvin directly. Perhaps because I am a woman Marvin and its reps think I will accept their lack of accountability and stories to exclude themselves from being honorable, and doing the right thing. They have lost a great client to say the very least.

Poor Quality

Poor Quality

I paid $3600 for three custom Marvin windows. I was looking for the highest quality windows with the longest warranty. I was assured that these were my best option. The order took over two months. The day of installation I opened the plastic wrap and immediately notices large amount of caulk on the window. Upon further inspection there was caulk on the trim and even small paint splatters on the glass. Not knowing what return/repair options were available, and since the store was closed, I stopped the installation and emailed the store. They contacted Marvin who scheduled a tech to come to my house. They arrived 4 weeks later. The tech said he had never seen windows look this bad. He also found interior scratches between the glass. He said he would talk to him team and get back to me. A week later I called Marvin service asking about refund options. I was told they already ordered three new replacement windows and return was not an option. Since I ordered black windows they were now going to use black caulk. Another production error. I explained that I didn t trust the quality or craftsmanship of these windows anymore and was not going to spend another 20k+ on their products for the rest of my house. They said it was too late.

Sharing this so other homeowners dont make the same mistake. Marvin is poor quality. Despite the fact that they get an inspection sticker, these windows were not inspected. They had paint on the glass, they used cream caulk on black frames, there was caulk on the glass, the glass had interior scratches. The frames also wobble signifigantly. If these defects are detectable within seconds, what about the rest of the components? I dont trust these windows and would not recommend Marvin.

I came here for a factory tour and it was FANTASTIC. The scale of world class craftsmanship that goes into Marvin windows and doors is something to behold. The automated cart system on the factory floor is a marvel of engineering. Brian, our tour guide, was super hospitable and knowledgeable. Did you know that they also make skylights now?
