ABSURD, HYPOCRISY,OUTRAGE!
My father was a resident in one of Marquis long term care facilities. I could talk now about negligence that took place and errors that were made during his stay. It was nightmare, at times, but I would like to share my thoughts and my dad's experience regarding so called " restraints" that Marquis insists on not using. When my dad arrived in the facility after the horrible stroke, I discovered that his bed did not have the railing. I was explained that railings are considered restraint and it is against company's policies. Since my father could not make decisions, I suggested that I will sign any paperwork that releases Marquis from any responsibility regarding installation of railings and anything that can happen ( see the title of my review). I received the negative answer. Result: my father fell out of bed few times. Is it better for residents to fall out of bed and potentially to hurt themselves or even to die or is it better to have railings which may prevent these complications? ( Refer to the title of my review). The second experience with " restraints" it was when my father needed supplemental oxygen. It is known that patients with stroke dementia try to take off nasal canulas. The MD in the hospital recommended to use a medical mitten that prevents a patient to use his or her fingers. Again, Marquis refused doctors recommendations ( see the title of my review). My father ended up in ER because of this.
How come hospitals ( Providence) and other care companies use all the above mentioned so called restraints, but Marquis does not. I was told by one of the Marquis directors of operations that Marquis follows the federal and state guidelines on restraints. So then somebody does not? I am confused. There is no logic and common sense in it. Isn't it the same state and country? In my opinion and many peoples' with whom I shared my " pleasant" experiences with Marquis it is Absurd, Hypocrisy and Outrage.

Marquis Piedmont was an excellent place to recover from my heart surgery! The Nurses, CNA's, Physical Therapists and Staff were great to work with. Sure there were some problems, but they were remedied quickly and efficiently. If I ever have the need to stay at an Assisted Care Facility again, I would choose Marquis Piedmont. Thank you for making what coud have been a terrible time, so much better.

I would not let my ex husbands dying house plant stay in a Marquis Care Facility. Their only concern is for the bottom line and how much they can make with the least amount of effort and concern for their employees and patients.

I have known two people and visited them many times, who lived at Marquis in Oregon City. The facility is adequate and the staff not perfect but were very kind and helpful when I was there. They have a tough job and I commend them for the work they do.
