After multiple recommendations, I decided this was a must stop! And it proved to be the best spot! Helen (ask for her) was AWESOME! She explained all the wines and let me try a huge variety of wines! Super satisfied and happy with the time spent here! All the other staff were extremely nice as well!! :)
What an awesome time we had. Thanks to Rachel for her awesome wine knowledge
Really nice wines. Particularly the ice sauvignon and the Pinot Noir! The lady knows her stuff and the winery looks amazing.
We visited Spy Valley during a Marlborough wine tour, and we were not let down. The James Bond memorabilia and morse code on the bottles keeps a local theme alive. The most important part -- the wine -- was delicious. We were able to taste the vineyard's range of whites to reds and thoroughly enjoyed the selection. We will be looking for their wine in NYC.
I was ridiculed for my age and my taste in wine by and an elder blonde woman with short hair. The wine was okay, service sub par.
My family and I did a wine tasting tour at Spy Valley. We are not big wine fans but we were fascinated with the wine process. Surprisingly we all loved the wine tasting tour, and had an absolute blast. This place is full of guide who love their job, and are very knowledgeable about the process. The selection of wines are very impressive. A brilliant time, and lots of memories made.
During a recent cruise ship tour from Celebrity Solstice in April 17, I liked the white wines very much. I purchased a "wine cooler bag" but failed to check the actual package until I got back to Australia where I realised I had been given the metal wine cooler instead. I really wanted the bag that was the same price and stood next to the cooler. It is obviously my own fault for not checking . Today I went online to order the bag but found the website is not working. Sad ...
I've enjoyed many a spy valley wine over the years. Through the likes of the fine wine delivery co, glengarry, vinomofo etc I've been a happy purchaser many, many times. As such, when planning our Marlborough trip Spy valley was one of the first added to our "must visit" list. As we approached the immaculately laid out entrance, with a pretty damn awesome outdoor sculpture, my anticipation rose further. As it was a Monday, and no cruises were in, we were the only guests, so I hoped for a fairly personal experience. Alas, this was not the case. While the wines were fine, the pours were barely a soup spoon (at $10 for 4 tastings*) and the personal experience even less. The spiel was delivered by a disinterested millennial, with zero passion and no love for the subject. A couple of coworkers who passed by received far more animation and interaction. The overall feeling was that she just couldn't be bothered speaking with us. A memorized sentence or 2 was delivered per spoonful of wine, and then she withdrew. This was just 1 of the 14 tastings we've experienced in Marlborough so far, and easily the worst. In previous years we've visited central otago and martinborough, as well as visiting vineyards and cellar doors closer to home in kumeu, waiheke island and matakana. I've honestly never encountered someone less engaged as our spy valley hostess today. For a label that clearly spends a lot of time and resources on its brand, it's a shame that this one point of contact let's the whole experience down so badly. Especially as there are many other cellar doors close by where a better experience can be had for less.
*I had the reserve tasting. A $5 for 5 tasting was also available. But I prefer to try wines not readily available at home, when wine touring.
Interesting location close to the spy station, take a detour after the wine tasting :-)
Found out about Spy Valley Wines from the Marlborough Wine Trail and thought ~wine not~ unfortunately the guide said they had complimentary wine tastings but alas, they no longer do. Fortunately, the manager was super nice and decided to give us a not-dry deal on some tastings and the taste did not disappoint!
The Fench cellar door wine tasting hostess was exceptional. Knew the wines well and even ensured our children were catered for. The wines were worth the ride as well.
Lovely wines and location, well worth a trip. The spy theme works very well, and I love the idea of using morse code on the bottles! Friendly family staff, look forward to another visit.
The place is absolutely beautiful, the staff is very nice and helpful. The wines are representative of the area
All the wines we tasted were excellent. Friends had recommended this winery when we mentioned we'd be visiting this part of the country. Our host was attentive and engaged with us and another small party.
We visited Spy Valley Winery while on one of our Norwegian Jewel excursions. I would highly recommend visiting this winery; the wines are excellent and the grounds are beautiful! Without question this was the best winery we visited in Australia and New Zealand. I liked that they focus on a few wines (about 9 or so...), which I believe allows them to produce a higher quality product. I wish that I had taken advantage of their free shipping offer for purchasing a case of wine, but we ran short on time. The good news is that Spy Valley Winery ships (many time at no cost) via a distributor to many countries, including the US where we live. BTW, Margaret did a great job as our tour guide. Definitely plan on returning!
Genuinely the best that Marlborough has to offer. The tasting was absolutely exquisite. I bought far more than I initially thought I would. The Sauvignon Blanc ice wine was absolutely unbelievable. The Gewurztraminer was the best I've had.
On top of that, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds were so beautiful that we were reluctant to leave. Truly the best wine experience we've had in NZ.
Wine was reasonably priced and good, but the taster seemed bored and ready for us to leave despite it being nowhere near closing time. Atmosphere was very nice though, beautiful views around the vineyard.
Great location and ambience. Great choice of wines at reasonable prices. Excellent service.
