Among the bases in the prefecture, CAMP HANSEN is a base with many recruits and young soldiers and a lot of training facilities. Bomb shooting training is also being done.
There is a festival once a year, and private citizens also need identification cards at that time, but it is possible to enter the base. In the festival, we can also open a shop opened by the USO in the base, open crowds of private catering, play equipment and play, and small kids land. Also, you can enjoy live by calling artists from your home country for free. Sometimes famous artists come and it is amazing to see it free of charge, but it is natural, but it gets crowded.
Besides that, we also include a food court, Burger King, Subway, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Charlie's PHILLY STEAKS, Popies, Dunkin Donuts, Baskin Robbins and you can eat whatever you like.
In the past few years, PX also eating and drinking and limited items, and although the number is limited, it seems to be able to purchase but it is very crowded. There are festivals at other bases, but I think that the festival here is personally best.
Right near the PX entrance, a brand new Turkish tailor shop, recently opened and, the prices seem super-low, compared to any other places like this, out in town.
In 1992, it was not exactly a fun place to be. Kinville had good food though!
If I had to be any other place on this beautiful island, I surely wouldn't have had as an amazing time in the Marines as I had. Right outside the gate is Kin and then we trained @ Kin Blue which was our office for 2 years. Why did I leave?
Young Marine at the ending of Vietnam! Trained harder in Hansen than Parris Island. Saw the effects of the war first-hand! Was placed on a C-130 several times to go to Vietnam! But,thanks to those great sacrifices made by those before me I was spared ! I have the utmost. respect for all branches of our military. Thank You My Hero's. BLT 3-4 Miss you guys! Charlie Company 3rd MarDiv 1371 Combat Engineer. 1974 till 1976.
No experience. Just want to say Thank you to all that has served..... God bless each and everyone...
Stationed there with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines in 1969 and 1970 and 1971.
Had the pleasure to train with Marine EOD on the proper usage of C-4.
I was stationed at Camp Hansen from 1960 to 1961, 3rd tank battalion H&S company, artillery repair/tank repair. All that was there at that time was a group of Quonset huts and the mess hall, the base was under construction. Kin was just a fishing village with 6 bars and 3 markets.
1984 deployed with 3/9....
1986 deployed with 1/3....
1988 deployed with 1/3....
there's something about the NTA (Northern Training Area)
there's really some thingz Special in Kinville.... Amazingly Awesome Culture
12/82 -12/83 Headquarters and Service Company 7th Commications Battalion. Just turned 18 and far away from home. Quite the experience
Camp Hanson could of been worse, I was lucky to experience other cultures especially the Okinawan culture. There was a great waterfall near by. I'll never forget the sweet Melody of Yankee Go Home ringing out in the morning.
A lot of great facilities, but the PX has something to be desired. Close to a nice Japanese town but still another military base.
My son is
stationed in Okinawa, He's been there over a year now and love's the Island. He turns 21, 1/14/17 and he has another year before he gets to come home. He earned his blood stripes last October and he said the year flew by. And the legal drinking age is 20 not 21 in Okinawa.
Camp Hansen itself looks like a prison. The only good thing there is the exit gate towards freedom off base.
The Okinawan US Army has the strongest troops in Kadena and Futenma, but the troop level seems to drop a little as it goes to the north.
During the Gulf War, soldiers who didn't want to go to war often had problems.
I have been there several times, but there is a day for ordinary people to enter.
I was here October 1982 to October 1983 with H and S Company. 7th Communication Battalion. A lonely and frightening time for me. Due to some real Thug, A - Holes I encountered. But, got to Korea and Philippines. So not always emotionally painful. But, glad to have left Okinawa.
Stationed there 6/69 - 10/69. Not a bad base. Kin was right outside the main gate and was quite a place! :)
