I came into the shop for the first time for a takeaway. I couldn t believe how rude, impatient the young girl taking the order was. I am an older gentleman and was taken back by her attitude towards me . Halfway through the order she answered the phone and left me standing there for at least 5minutes. Needless to say I didn t place the order and certainly will not be back. NOT recommended.

Had a particularly strange request the girl at the front was very nice and when my order came out it exceeded my expectations thanks again.
Just wondering if this place is even open anymore ? I went this past Thursday to try it for the first time. Their website says "open" and it was after noon hour and the place was empty and locked up tight. So I thought I would try today but call first. Again their website says open today 1-8pm but no answer. I only gave it a one star because I've never had a chance to try it and can't rate it.
Probably the best fish and chips ive had in a while! Massive pieces! Lots of fries!
Wow! The best fish and chips I ve ever had honestly! Your chips are scrumptious, the large halibut I had was a nice big piece with a perfectly crispy batter. I don t normally expect much from coleslaw but even that was delicious. Thank you and I look forward to returning for another fish and chips treat

I stopped in here with a few friends on my way to a music festival, and I gotta say, this place was great! The food was delicious, the portions were so satisfactory that we had to take some to go, and the staff were very friendly. We were all left happy and full when we left Maria's Fish & Chips.
I find that the quality of fish and chips has gone down hugely over cooked, coleslaw sour.
First time we ate here the food was amazing. Sadly, the fish was overcooked last two times

I really enjoyed the halibut here. Have been a few times now and have not be disappointed. Noticed though that a lot of people order take out.

Not rating the food as I didn t even get to try it. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Called to place a takeout order and phone was answered very unpleasantly, asked for a fish and chip combo (fish + fries + coleslaw) to be told that they stopped serving the special at 3:30, I said I m not looking for a special, just fish and chips and then rudely was told were really busy . Just lost a customer today, I will never come here. Mr.fish and chips answered pleasantly, I ordered and picked up, the place was very busy and she looked like she was on her own but still made an effort to be kind and I left happy with a great meal for my family.
The fish was good. I don't recommend the pickles though. Also an insanely long wait despite only 1 table with 2 guests in the restaurant. No reason or apologies made for the over hour long wait for food.

It was the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The batter was too thick on the fish and was so greasy I couldn't finish it. I threw out at least half of my order because of the grease. The owner has called this a fake review which is a lie. I was up early this morning and decided to review a number of places I've visited in the last few weeks. I'm a long haul truck driver who lives in Brantford and was in search of some good quality food after being on the road for several weeks. On March 11, 2019 I purchased fish and chips with an extra piece of fish for $13.56. I payed with my debit card if this proves I'm real. To the owner, I will now gladly accept your apology when you confirm that I DID in fact make the above mentioned purchase as will be verifiable through your receipts.
The fish was lightly battered and still had a crunch. Very good and will go again.
I had dinner at Maria's last week with my family and it was absolutely wonderful. Amazing quality and a large menu with something for everyone. The prices are very reasonable for such large portions. We will definitely be returning again and again.
Pre ordered the fish & chips due to the Easter Friday and I knew it would be very busy. There was a bit of a wait but given the day...it was understandable. Got the order home and noticed part of the order missing. We made due with what was left and the taste was excellent. I will accept part of the blame as I did not double check the order before I left the restaurant. I would order again from Maria's any time. Price, quantity and quality was all very good. We ordered well in advance and provided a time for pick-up. Upon arrival I was told it would be very soon. After 50 mins of waiting I finally received my order. During this time many people walked out of the waiting room as well as other patrons demanding their money back. After all of the trouble I was offered a $5 rebate on my meal. Not a happy customer and will not be returning. Very poor service.
It's no lighthouse that's the spot for clean good fish n chips in B dot. This place made me sick hate to say it but just being honest woke up in middle of the night and was sick . Very disappointed and waste of money !!!

This is not a review on the food - food is pretty good. However customer service was awful! Both times ordering take out the customer service was rude and clueless - the first time, I went in and ordered and they said they did not need a prepayment, then called me a week later rudely requesting I NEEDED to come in to prepay or else they would not make my food. The second time we ordered, we prepaid but they never gave us a receipt. On the pickup day, we confirmed over the phone that we had paid as we did not have a receipt, but when we went to pickup, they refused to give us our food as we didnt have a receipt even though we called to confirm with name and time.
Fish n chips were good here with a added bonus of homemade coleslaw and Tarter sauce the chef here will get my A+++ when he fries with Lard like the high end fish n Chips places

Generous portions for the dollar... I like that they're licensed as there's not too many fish and chips places that are... the only downfall I thought the batter was a bit too salty..

Order through SkipTheDishes...Family meal (10pc) added a large onion ring and mozzarella sticks... Was about $75 after tax... We normally get Joeys however as our boys are getting older and eating more Joeys family meal just isn t enough food... This was our first time ever having Maria s and I must say it gets a huge thumbs up from our family.. Fresh cut fries and LOTS of them along with 10 perfectly cooked PCs of fish in a pizza box to ensure they don t all get stuck together!..Coleslaw was much better tasting then joeys and the tarter sauce also was more flavorful! Mozzarella sticks appeared to be hand made not some little frozen things from a box...Onion rings were the only downer but that could be a Skip issue since the delivery took much longer then expected the onion rings were cold and didn t get eaten..maybe we will try again next time and pick up the order. It was delicious and more then enough food for us!!...Great Meal! Looks like we found our new monthly Fish and Chip place!!

DO NOT EAT HERE!!!! I will never eat here again. I called at 6:30 and was told by the snotty woman that it would be 25 minutes for 4 fish dinner. My husband and father went to get the food. After AN HOUR they had been gone I called my husband and asked what was going on. He said they had just got the food and they were on the way home. I called back to ask why they would underestimate the time like that the snotty woman on the phone told me that I called during a rush. When I asked for a manger she hung up. Absolutely disgusting and disgraceful
Waited for over 30 min. In store. Fish was very greasy and not at all crisp. Fries were a dark grey to light black color and mushy. First time we tried Maria's the quality was excellent. Don't know what happened but we will not be back. Will continue quest for a good fish and chip restaurant. This is our 3rd strike out.,

Worst experience I have had in Brantford for eating out, and would strongly recommend others eat elsewhere if you want good food in a timely manner and of good quality. Not to mention good service. I wrote a review because i was horrified by experience. It took over an hour to get our food. I was with my extremely hungry 6 year old who would hardly touch the food when we finally got it due to it being over cooked and of such poor quality. The manager actually responded to me saying he was there for that order and food wasn't burnt and I didn't understand how friers work? What professional does that? Although he did admit the drinks may have took "a while" because apparently 15 mins to open a can of pop and get a chocolate milk is acceptable. Save your money and time! My time is valuable to sit and wait over an hour for over priced, over cooked meal is unacceptable
Just went to this restaurant. waited for menus. Never got them . 45 minutes Wait for food. French fries were cold and burnt. Fish was soogy and really salty. Got take out packets for condiments and and canned pop and Ice-T they said they had no time to pour it in a glass with ice the tables were dirty and and and the service was terrible I would not recommend this place to anyone
They have some really good halibut and the pricing is reasonable I would like to see them make better fries though I would go back here for sure

Great dining experience. Store is small and clean great for a quiet evening out. Recently started selling beer and wine with really great deals. Not a huge fan of fish but this is the best fish I've ever had. 10/10 will be back.
Place is small and clean. If you are dining in, the offer beer and wine now. Great for take out, which we usually do. Food is great. Favs are the perch and chips and coconut shrimp... and the halibut... worth the money.

Smallest piece of fish I've ever seen from a Fish and Chip shop. My Haddock was about the size of 2 small fish sticks. I thought maybe most had fallen off before it was put into the box.
Iam so frustrated with Maria's fish and chips not like it use to be when maria owned it. The cook is never in even on the busiest day of the week fridays at almost five o clock. How can you run a business like that I dont know. Wait times are horrible and the girl at the counter is rude all the time to her so called customers. Iam done going there and would not recommend it to anyone

Tryed this place out about a year ago and wasn't impressed.. Gave it another chance over the weekend and it was great.
Fantastic food and short wait times! Eat here all the time and have never had a problem. Seriously recommend
