Excellent patio, loved the vibe out there. Their attention to detail is impressive, the service was excellent and the burger to die for.
A local gem. Great ambiance, excellent food, located in the urban setting of Wellington Street. What's not to love!
Very interesting and classy decor. As a vegetarian I had a few options which were quite tasty. A nice date spot before you hit the party next door.
Went for their brunch. House bacon is a must try! They Cesar tastes awesome! Only thing to criticize is that there are few options on brunch menu and I didn't really want any of them. However, food tastes good.
Beutiful atmosphere. Great and friendly staff and the food is spectacular. Highly recommended
Great tasting food, nicely presented, attentive service
Excellent - old meets new! Family style dinner for 4 people - outstanding!
This is one of the best spots in Toronto to take your date. If it's your first time here, start with the John's Burger since it's the only one in town that is made in heaven and served by angelic personalities. You will also find them at the upcoming 2019 Burgermania end of May beginning of June.
Excellent food, excellent service. Great for dates.
Limited menu, but fair to say what's provided is good
The service is slow and not 'attentive'
Definitely not my first choice in this neighborhood
Wonderful service. Staff was very friendly and attentive.
I almost don't want to share this private dining experience... But I want it to stick around. Definietly goes on my TOP 10
Friendly staff, great drinks and really good food. Staff were staying safe during COVID on the patio. Would love to go back and sit inside when it s safe to do so
My husband and I had brunch at Marben a few weeks ago. My husband had the burger, our friends had the avocado toast and I had the pancakes with apple butter. The food took a little long to arrive however our waiter explained there was a large party that had arrived before us. Other than this little issue the food was great. Their patio is a great spot.
Thank you so much to my friends who invited me here at Marben restaurant. The restaurant was great with delicious variety of food and the crew are so friendly.
The service and the food are excellent. It deserved 4 and half stars ... The only things that bothered me are that they have a 2 hours max policy and I had to book with my credit card for Valentine's day...
Good food and service. Have been their for dinner and brunch.
Amazing service and food. Very comfortable, would highly recommend.
Went in with some friends for the summerlicious menu, started a little rocky as the food was taking a while to come out but the wait staff was incredibly friendly, and they put in the extra effort that really made the night even though there were hold ups in the kitchen, definitely would come back if anything for the roasted cauliflower appetizer.
The summerlicious menu was excellent, between the 4 of us we tried all the options and they were all amazing, definitely got what we paid for in food and service.
We went for a summerlicious dinner and it was excellent. The cauliflower appetizer was amazing and the desserts were both delicious. We ate outside. Got a few mosquito bites!! But we sat out for several hours and weren t rushed. A lovely evening.
Updated my review from 3 to 5 stars, my experience last Thursday was top notch from the service, to the meal as well as the yummy cocktails. Well done team.
My favourite restaurant! Food is always amazing, drinks are on point, delicious wine. And all are out done by the friendly staff!
Marben never fails to disappoint. Chef Chris does an incredible job of creating menus that are full of creative, contemporary British fare - something that is hard to come by in Toronto. Throughout the pandemic, the general manager Karen has run a tight ship and Marben has done a great job in making everyone feel safe. Do yourself a favour and go downstairs to the Cloak Bar, which they ve also just reopened for great cocktails.
Always a pleasure at Marben. Food is fabulous, interior is cozy but chic, outside is beautiful on a sunny day!
We stumbled across this restaurant last year and it continues to be a favourite of ours whether it's just us or were entertaining for Sunday brunch!
The service continues to be pleasant and welcoming without being overbearing.
Also, they've switched to a no tipping model which is great because we know the staff are getting paid a more consistent wage and takes the pressure off the dinning experience. We feel like we're back in Australia.
Love, love, love and highly recommend!
The ambience, layout and design are beautiful. Staff is extremely knowledgeable, friendly and welcoming. Staff is eager to provide recommendations or help answer any questions.
The appetizers are quite small. The burger is very good, although, is on the smaller side as well.
Cocktail list is terrific and bartenders are happy to make you a custom drink of your choice off the menu.
Prices are quite expensive though.
Delicious food. Loved the oysters and the burger. A bit pricier. There's a hidden bar downstairs too.
Unbelievable. Just because we were a group of 5 guy friends looking to celebrate my cousin s birthday, they didn t let us in around 1am on Saturday night.
They explicitly said they wouldn t let us in. The bouncers weren t so clear but I m assuming that that s the case.
You would benefit from not wasting your time.
I was recently was here for dinner for a friend's bachelorette and we had an incredible time! While the menu is small, all the food was impeccable. And our server Dan was AMAZING! He was patient and really got to know our party, and by the end of the night he may as well have just come out to celebrate the rest of the bachelorette night with us! 10/10 recommend and will be back!
I was out at this restaurant with some friends last night and I won't be back. I used to go here every once in a while years back, but I remember it being better. For one, the patatas bravas that I ordered as an appetizer was underwhelming - the potatoes were undercooked and they tasted like they had been reheated from the night before. As for the John Burger (I think this is what it was called - it's the only burger on the menu) the thing came out and the running joke at the table was that I had ordered a $19 slider. They also claim that their miniature pint glasses hold 500ml of beer, which I would seriously have to question... I think a normal bottle would fill these glasses. I do understand that restaurants need to maintain their margins, but charge more and up the portion on the 'burger'.
Went here for dinner. Excellent food with a fusion twist. Had an very nice Portugese wine.
Very nice and cute place, more of a girls get together king of place, also great for a first date!
Shared three apps and a family style main between 5 people. Food was excellent and our waiter Evan was superb.
Dishes:
Fried cauliflower with lime and chilli
Roasted Brussel sprouts with crispy bacon
Winter green salad
Family style dry aged rib eye with frites and glazed carrots
Being in the hospitality industry I'm often expecting the best from the places I dine! Marben and the Cloak both were on point with their knowledge of their menus. The bar team at both locations are undoubtedly some of most knowledgeable bartenders In the city! Great spot to bring a date or hang with a few friends!
The burger was delicious don't let the size of it fool you. The sharable plates looked good will try that next time.
Really fabulous food, great service. I would go there again soon!
Terrible experience...what's all the rave about? Attended Marben for a friend's birthday. Their customer service was terrible. We ordered drinks and got them a half hour later. When we asked about them, the staff didn't even apologize. The mains weren't all that great. Everybody tried something different and nobody liked their dish. I ordered the duck; the duck was my least favourite thing on the plate - it was salty and dry....all 5 slivers of it. The burger and the 'catch of the day' got the most decent reviews. Crab ravioli was a flop as well. One guest ordered a salad and sent it back because it was extremely salty. The server took it back and didn't ask her if she wanted anything else; they did not go out of their way to appease her at all. In fact, the server was very confrontational with the customer for getting her 'in trouble' with her manager when we brought it to his attention.
Great food taste, good drink and food timing, attentive service from all (maybe too attentive?). Amazing place. Perfect. Server Arial was incredible--friendly and genuine and seemed happy to be there.
Unique dinning experience, food and atmosphere was great. Staff was excellent
An intriguing contemporary Colonial British dining experience. The unique decor is sure to impress. Menu is diverse and interesting. Ample seating in a variety of arrangements to satisfy just about any dining adventure.
Service is fast and friendly, willing to cater to any unusual request.
Wide selection of brunch menu items, with the option for fresh orange or grapefruit juice, pressed before your eyes. Certainly worth a try. Coffee is quite good. I think I will return for another try.
I have been here few times. Both experiences were great and consistent. Food good service good ...
Have to try this burger!!!!! Delicious and the staff was amazing. I would recommend this spot to anyone.
Cool atmosphere with great food and fun drinks. More on the pricey side of things. Too many wait staff helping us at our table (we had 4 or 5 people helping us, to varying degrees of helpfulness).
If you have never had the burger...have it! Simple and all about the flavour of the patty.
Summerlicious was just right. Its worth going back. Portions were just the right size for me. Fresh and flavourful plates focused on local/near-local, in-season ingredients. They don't skimp on service either.
On the pricey side, however the fried cauliflower and burger were amazing. Good sate spot as well
The Marben is a sure success for Toronto "foodies" looking for a laid back and romantic atmosphere. I was suprised at how quickly our food was prepared and the level of attention and service that was given considering the place was at full capacity when we arrived. They had a coat check set up to take our jackets and provided a ticket for when I left, but the attention to detail was so good that she recognized me and already had my jacket ready as I walked to the door to leave.
The atmosphere was lovely. Nearly entirely lit by candles and very romantic. My only small quam is the the seating was pretty tighly packed but that is a fault of the small venue. If you're looking for privacy, you might want to go on a night that isn't as busy.
Atmosphere was warm and earthy. Staff were really friendly and attentive and the food was delicious with plenty of options for wine and beer. I'll definitely be coming back.
Food is great look out for bring your own wine nights with the waived corkage fee!
I've been there a couple of times now and always enjoyed all the meals. Last night we did the family style beef dish and it was absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend it!
The food was awesome , the staff were very knowledgeable and super friendly and the music was spot on! Definitely be back!!
Tried the buffalo chicken burger and it was SO GOOD. My partner loved the cheeseburger. Mixed up my gravy- but offered to make it right and was so kind. Love these guys and the food is always so good!
My favorite date spot...Ariel our server was one of the best ppl I've experienced on earth....lolol
Had brunch in the speakeasy downstairs for a private event. Full English vegetarian..delicious!
Went here for my birthday and really enjoyed it! Good food!
John's Burger at Marben is a contender for the best burger in Toronto. A patty of beef and braised short ribs packs an incredible amount of flavor. Complement this flavor with aged cheddar a nice bakery bun and a unique topping of Branston pickle. The ingredients are simple, but the complexity and layers of flavor they put in each bite makes Marben a favorite in my book. Combine John's Burger with some great fries, fantastic outdoor seating, and a premium drink list and one could spend quite a bit of time at Marben.
One of the best brunch places in Toronto I ve tried so far. The ambiance was awesome and I loved the interior design of this place. Very old style English meets hipster vibes.
The Fry Up had eggs, hash, mushrooms, sausage, sourdough toast and baked beans. Big portion, enough to fill you for brunch. Each individual item on this plate was so well done. The mushroom was very flavourful, the hash was super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the sunny side up eggs are perfectly cooked with a gooey yolk.
The poached eggs with smoked trout was very good too, on a bed of sweet potato hash which was delicious.
Overall definitely value for money in terms of the food quality and ambiance for a brunch at this places.
The decor at Marben presents it as an upscale gastropub, with unique decor, a nice ambiance and a great patio space out front that would be perfect for an afterwork hangout or for casual drinks with friends. But, the food seems quite overpriced for what it is, and the service was sadly very inconsistent.
John's Burger is praised by a lot of people as one of the best burgers in the city so we had high expectations. Of the menu items we tried, I'd say that's the best bang for your buck, but it's certainly not the best burger. The cucumber and cavier appetizer was refreshing, but disappointing in that it's far too light and there's literally one tiny oyster. While the chilled jalapeno broth was delicious, it's like you're fishing in a plate of juice. As for the Kipfer's Farm Pork Belly, I loved the flavours of every aspect of the dish. But, again it felt short with its very small portion, and the pork belly was unsuitably fatty for a restaurant to serve as a main.
For the price and the abundance of options in this city, Marben is far from impressive. I don't think we'll return anytime soon.
I went to this place after seeing the good reviews on Google.
Love every thing about this spot, the owner is super friendly, he is always here, helpful explains to every one the different items. I had a little bit of every thing and loved the burger.
All in all a good place. The burger is worth a return visit but next time it will be take out.
Really good food, well prepared. Interesting dishes without them being weird. Doting staff, and a relaxing environment.
Don t come here if you are hungry. Needed to order a burger on the way home! Small main plates. Upside is nice ambience and great service.
Amazing delicious food and awesome drinks. Lovely atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. Unobtrusive selection of great music.
Had dinner here last night and the food was outstanding. The ambience of the restaurant was perfect for a Sunday night dinner. I would highly recommend checking this local restaurant out if you can :).
Really tasty food using fresh seasonal and local ingredients. Server really know their stuff in detail. Had the steak sirloin for main
Good service and nice ambiance but food is overpriced for what you get.
This is my first time in marben. I like the decors and the atmosphere in this restaurant a lot. Their brunch are very yummy as well. Not too cheap, kinda in a higher price range. If you want something fancy but not too fancy, I recommend this place
What a delightful find! The ambience was fantastic and the food, divine. Definitely want to try pretty much everything on the menu.
Excellent service, delicious food and lovely atmosphere.
Food was lousey. Small menu. Not much choice. Kinda smells like a greasy diner
A hidden gem in King West that doesn't often have a wait or lineup. I have personally always had great food, drinks and service. This is my "go to" when I want nice food, drinks and atmosphere, especially at the last minute.
Excellent staff and able to communicate with the guest in addition to recommendations on dishes and the bottomless mimosas really hit the spot in the brunch mood.
Great food, atmosphere & excellent service. Recommend
Great food and beer/wine selections. Cozy atmosphere.
I took some clients here last week and was please with everything. Both clients who were local had never been here seemed to like it very much too. Very casual but still above average quality.
I liked what I ordered (especially the marmalade). I was a bit weirded out by the sweet baked beans though.
I went this place to try their brunch menu with my friends and we got John s Burger , French Toast , and The Fry Up . The burger was just okay, because the bun was bit stiff to bite. French toast was the best choice because of the Vampire plum compote dressing as they described in the menu. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff!
Great 5-7 bar, can get too busy in the late eves. Food is good too
The food and atmosphere were amazing and Ahmed, the manager, was Terrific with a capital T! Definitely a must!
Food was good, but I wanted just a little more salt.
