Amazing library to study. If you are a student at UOM you have to try out studying at this library. It has outstanding architecture i am sure many will enjoy!
In case any university student like me is hoping to go and work in the library and get out of the house, don't bother. Despite saying on the website that they are open as normal (and even having signs outside saying 'Yes we're open! 10 - 4!) they neglect to inform you that the reading room in Central is closed, you can only go in to use the computer, there are only 8 computers open, and you can only use them for an hour maximum! You can't even stand in the library and look at the books if you're not on a computer. I understand that this is not the library staff's fault, I'm sure the precautions being taken are absolutely necessary, and it's not easy for anyone being in Tier 4. But please be up front with the actual current up-to-date information and don't waste people's time, like mine has been wasted today.
I just love this library. It's huge and has lots of books to choose from. You can also check their online list and request a book. Cosy and quiet, lovely atmosphere. I really enjoy the peaceful environment there
I had an appointment at there today, as soon as I arrived at the reception desk a gentleman told me to wait outside of the building when my exact appointment time comes someone will come to give me a shout. Nearly 15 minutes later the same guy came out and told me to go to a different building, I asked me why he said there where I should go for a death certificate, but I told him when I arrived earlier that i am hereb for UK Visas and Immigration appointment! The reception workers probably need some training or something.
Keeping long story short, when I went to see the people about my appointment I apologised and said I arrived before my appointment time i explained what happened.
They were very friendly and understood.
I love Manchester and I love these lovely library! When coming here, I always make sure to spend sometime on my own in this library before hitting to the local pub with my fellow mates! Cozy atmosphere, lovely interior and the perfect place to indulge into some qualitative literature time. Even if you don't like books, make sure to come here!!
Manchester Central Library is the headquarters of the city's library and information service in Manchester, England. Facing St Peter's Square, it was designed by E. Vincent Harris and constructed between 1930 and 1934. The form of the building, a columned portico attached to a rotunda domed structure, is loosely derived from the Pantheon, Rome. At its opening, one critic wrote, "This is the sort of thing which persuades one to believe in the perennial applicability of the Classical canon".
Great library but the staff at the moment are painful.
You ve got a job to do but go and get some interpersonal skills lessons.
The attitude comes from management.
Nice place yet of recent weeks they can t be bothered updating the opening times in accordance with their ever changing red tape concerning Covid. Went down last week after 11.30am and all closed. Shame on them, I ll be looking to have it out with the manager and an offer of X2 coffee and cake vouchers will suffice as an apology.
Simply calling this place a library is like calling CERN a few underground pipes. It is a cultural hub, and an exhaustive library. There hasn't been a book, manuscript, score or microfilm that I could not find, nor order in at no extra cost. This is merely scratching the surface of the various events, research and specialist sections this place hosts. Long may these wonderful people, in this wonderful building, carry on doing their vital work for our city.
