generally reasonable, busy, sometimes over-protective, rarely bad. Of the dozen or so I dealt with, only one was obviously of poor character and judgement. The other cops in that situation seemed to sort of just let him be stupid and not get involved. It was weird but yeah. Nothing came of it probably thanks to the lack of support from the normal cops. If you're moving here, be ready for 3 hour, 8 mile commutes both directions, lots of pervs, heavy gentrification, ridiculous rent prices, 99%+ housing capacity and make sure u re-sign any lease 6 mo in advance. Madison is a shell of what it used to be.

This morning I was coming to the store on east side as usual, our store was on east side almost 15 years now and that's the exit I usually use, when I reached to Rimrock exit I saw a barriers and I was aware of something going on, usually I make a left turn to take a John Nolan street and of course it was only a right turn and I saw that so many cars coming from opposite side, so I saw one of the police officers giving a direction which way to go, he asked me where am I going and he told me what to do I follow the instructions and next officer on the line instead of showing me which way I should go he was just yelling out of his lung go go go go go and he doesn't give me any sign which way, I am driving for 35 years and I have never been insulted like that, I have never seen a officer like even in crime seen, I just slow down to take a instructions, my blood sugar and blood pressure went sky high and I was instructed back to west side exit, how anybody can hold such a simple task and make drivers confused and frustrated, when all I was trying to do is follow their instruction and just taking little slower than normal to figure out which way they will send me, I was shaking entire time, I am very calm driver and with excellent, all they have to do show us the road we should take not his hands down screaming, I didn't find that professional manner yelling at the drivers, it could of cost me an accident or something else they should keep their cool and calm manner and give orders or instructions, I am still in a shock. Recentlly called the non-emergency line to try to resolve an issue, and the man who answered the phone was the rudest, least helpful person I've ever encountered in my life. Police exist to help people, its disappointing that when I called my local police department to try to get a few questions answered I was instead belittled and insulted. The man hung up on me saying he had other calls to get to. Shameful.

Cops need much better mental health training. It is crucial to treat citizens who are dealing with mental health issues with dignity and respect. They are not criminals solely because of their illness.

The department should also make sure 911 operators are doing their jobs fully, and that cops actually respond to calls.

From the 911 operator to the woman officer who came out to the fender bender, VERY RUDE and shouting. Do nothing police officers. The quite elderly man who backed into me didn't hear my very loud horn and he couldn't hear me speak to him afterward. Also, had obvious problem seeing. Police couldn't care less just as long as they didn't have to do any paperwork. Lazy, lazy lazy. Will this driver cause further more serious accidents?

I have the utmost respect for Madison police officers. I ve been treated fairly and with professionalism in every interaction I ve had with them.

They beat my child on her eye she was only three years old and in front of her mom her mom is from Jordan and they are threatening My ex-wife family with Jordan and Secret Service this department are criminals but there are some good people in this department and I hope I win in court

some of the people that work there are great some of them not so much

They are a mixed bag. Some are better than others. I do realize they have a difficult job to do. Some I would give 4 or 5 stars to. Some only 1 or 2, unfortunately...

Went in to have my fingerprints taken. I called because I am new in town and wanted some info about hours and parking. The lady on the phone explained in detail all about the fingerprints and gave me suggestions on where to park. I was in and out in 15 minutes. The employee behind the counter was very professional and friendly. The lady who took my prints same thing, very cordial and professional. Best service ever!

Aside from my own negative experiences with MPD, you can check out their statistics online. 107 sexual assaults/rapes reported in 2016, only 36 men cleared (which may or may not include a conviction). And that's only the cases where reports were made.

Idk who these other people tall to on the phone, I spoke with a very nice lady about a report for my insurance, super nice, actually nicer person I've ever spoke with on the phone with at a police station, Sheriffs office or jail...

Nice officers that look out for my safety and other citizens. I really like living in madison where i can feel safe from some crime late at night. I can depend on them to help me when needed.

Records requests takes weeks. There is also no system to track the progress of record requests.

Cool ass cops. They don't bother you unless you give them a reason to, other than that this is Madison's finest at its best. Stay outta their way n they'll stay outta yours! And I don't even like cops but these boys in blue are ok with me.

Fingerprints & FBI Background check done here. Everyone was helpful. Lee went out of his way to make sure my ink prints & documents was correct for out of state board of nursing. Finished in just under an hour.

Educate your department... how dare your department back up a tresspassing and false detention when they were leaving the property and the property owners did not request them too leave then the same guy arrest him for not identifying him self when he didnt commit a crime. I have never met a better police department. I have severe depression and have had several interactions with these people. They have generally treated me with dignity and respect and several times talked with me for hours. One time an officer bought me some food as an alternative to hospitalizing me. I was amazed. I'm used to authority figures being unreasonable asshats but this department was not. Honestly they acted like cops on T.V. While I wish there wasn't a patrol of people around to throw you in a pen for being suicidal I can say that if one has to exist this is the one I'd choose. Thanks guys.

They have the worst service ever. A lady answer my call and was so impatient. She hung up before I finished my question.

My favorite police department of any place I've lived. They believe in community policing and mostly try to de-escalate situations.

I lost my wallet walking around and someone had turned it in to them. Sergeant Perez went out of his way to get in contact with me and get it back to me.

Called 911 3 times about a hit and run and they didn't show up!!! At least 4 cops walked by, plus the 5 cop cars that drive by. One said "sorry if unless someone is being shot at we don't have time to deal with it, I'm going home." Great to know my tax dollars are being thrown down the toilet. Absolutely disgusting. Never been more upset in my life.

I Really thought i was going to lose my bike, but they arrested the guy who stole it on the spot. I am so grateful that they got my bike back and wish i could remember the name of the officer to give him a thanks.

Called to let them know of illegal activities and they do nothing about it

Two of the workers were demeaning to me and had an attitude/laughed when I asked a question about parking. Others here can be great.
