Tough and gorgeous, in great shape, can't wait to come back.
Love this course always in great shape a little pricey
Beautiful challenging course. Green conditions were excellent.
Played here Feb of 2016. Very nice course! Maderas is a much more San Diego-style course and is a great alternate if you don't want to or can't play Torrey Pines South. Very hilly, and extremely challenging greens (when the speed is up). The holes have nice turns, ups, and downs but the hazards aren't really placed with imagination. Conditioning could be better.
Beautiful view and the food and service were great.
Elite level country club if u can get on for under 100$ it's well worth it.
Quite the challenge, with gorgeous views. Will definitely play again.
Probably deserve 3 Stars for how dang fast the greens are, but aside from the difficulty the place was in A+ shape!
Course is always in great shape. Course design is 8/10, Johnny Miller did a great job yet there are few holes that are too difficult unfair and a couple holes that have awkward forced layups off the tee. Pro shop is nice with quality products. Would have given 5 stars but the price point across the board from green fees to cocktails is extremely expensive.
Great layout, nice greens and friendly staff. We played there in 2018, December.
My daughter had her Graduation party there. Food was good and great friendly service. Very clean.
Utter delight of a place, here visiting from the UK and the service (special shout out to the Pro) was nothing short of outstanding. The course is in top condition & will challenge any golfer. I never write reviews & it took me 10 minutes to work out how - that's how much we liked it!
2 stars just bc the course was in great shape, but unfriendly staff and poor safety policies take away from its beauty. Price advertised is not the price you pay! They sneak on a cart cleaning fee and God forbid you want to ride separately bc that will cost you $35 in addition to the $150 mid-week green fee. Plenty of other great tracks around that aren t so greedy and won t take advantage of you.
Awesome high-end course with great food and well kept fairways/greens. The carts (at least at the time of this review) have this amazing extra padding and they have the surfboard carts (bring an umbrella if it's hot and sunny)! Keep an eye on out places like GolfNow to get a great deal. Typically the greens fees are NOT cheap.
Worth the price if admission. Bring plenty of balls.
Very challenging course. Not that long but lots of uneven lies and narrow landing areas. Incredibly well operated. Outstanding amenities and service all around.
Challenging course with several carries. Greens and traps were in impeccable shape. The fairways were in good shape too for the most part.
The staff was fantastic, and the clubhouse was impressive. My one complaint was the overzealous GPS that shut down my cart a few times.
This course will test you. Very unforgiving. My advise is check your machismo and move up to the teal tees. Recommend everyone give it a try but not sure it is worth the price for most of us.
Incredibly excellent! Teeing ground, failrway, green, staff are all impeccable!
Maderas is an awesome golfing experience. First rate course. Unforgiving greens. Great facility.
One of the best golf courses I've ever played I played in the scramble and I wish I had not played in a scramble regular format the course is beautiful it's suddenly protected risk-reward everything of true golfer enjoys about a good golf course
Probably the best golf course i have played in san diego. Service is impeccable. Driving range is beautiful... balls are included in grreens fees. The couse is perfectlly maintained. The greens were in excellent shape.
I love Poway. I love this event. I love their charity events here.
Beautiful spot. Great employees, had evening meal and breakfast both excellent.
Beautiful course with lots of cool elevation changes and scenery. Challenging, but fun. I played Blue tees (roughly 6700 yards) and found them manageable distance wise. Customer Service was wonderful. They actually managed pace of play, which was helpful.
Maderas golf club Grill is a great place to have lunch. The golfer go to the pick up window and get the back on the course. I would recommend to any ladies clubs book or bridge or girls day out for lunch nice environment inside seating and patio seating. Not to busy to get waited on. Good menu.
Lovely place to get married at, but the food choices suck and are over priced.
A unique experience, not a flat surface on this course! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the course was very well maintained, a real treat to play!
Maderas Golf Club: Quietly tucked away in rolling hills to the north of San Diego, this spectacular Johnny Miller-Robert Muir Graves design ranks with some of California's best. Meandering across wonderfully scenic hills and occasional woodland (maderas), the immaculately presented course contains beautifully crafted and challenging holes from start to finish.
excellent golf course, but after a tournament at 30 degrees and shotgun departure at 2, when we got to the clubhouse the bar was closed
3 weeks after the greens punched and course was in excellent shape. Staff was super courteous all around. Can't wait to go back to this challenging, fun course!
Friendly staff course well maintained, challenging in some holes
I've eaten there for lunch and dinner. Enjoyed the service and great food in a fantastic setting.
This golf course is fantastic! One of the best in the area. I LOVED the layout the the elevation changes. It doesn't hurt that I played well here also!
Maderas is in fantastic shape. It is easily one of the top courses in San Diego. Played in less than 4 hours this morning. Just a great golf experience!
As the only few courses open during the social distancing Maderas is taken advantage of dynamic pricing which in my opinion is simply exploitation. The course was in good condition and staff was courteous but why be greedy and charge almost double because of an unprecedented time in our country.
It s a shame that the dynamic gauging is part of their business model.
Challenging and fun course. Course management is key to a good round here. The staff are all very hospitable and respectful.
Pretty course situated in a valley. Noticeable elevation change which is welcome in SoCal. Layout interesting, even with multiple plays. Greens mostly pretty large which allows for varying pin placement. Staff is friendly and helpful. Well organized. Grass range included which is always welcome.
Great course. Professional staff. Good food. What else could you ask for?
The staff was friendly and professional. The course was in excellent condition, much better than Torrey Pines and much more affordable. Received free water bottles, divot tool, moist towel and lemonade after the round. The course is very playable and the greens are fast and undulating. Thoroughly enjoyed myself and highly recommend it.
Course looked amazing, good was great. Beer was okay.
Staff is awesome..fast greens..beautiful facilities and a real challenging course!
Super nice.
Bring your A game.
A beautiful location. One of the best courses in San Diego.
You will want to bring some golf balls.
This place really blew me away. The course was in PHENOMENAL shape. The greens rolled as true as any I've ever played. But the staff topped off the whole experience. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. This course is a must play in San Diego.
Great service, beautiful course. Make sure to try the Acai smoothie!
Awesome Golf Course!!
This course makes you think about each tee shot.
Fairway were in great shape with alot of uneven lies. Greens very fast, hit the practice green before starting your round.
If you are NOT regularly shoot less then 100, then I would not suggest playing this course.
Overall, a great course well worth the $100+ green fees! Top notch customer service as well!!
General manager Patrick's policies prioritizess profits over safety. While COVID is still a part of daily life, his policy at Madera forces you to pay extra if you don't want to share a cart with a person whom you don't know their health history. When asked about it, he says that if the law doesn't require him to give out extra carts, he won't. I cited his language at the facility and on the website advertising their commitment to guest safety but essentially defaulting the guest to sitting 4 inches from someone not in your family for 4 hours, but he would not budge or acknowledge the disconnect.. instead, he cited a cart shortage.... they had a whole extra rental fleet of carts in the parking lot. They also charge you an extra fee to sanitize your cart and some sort of water surcharge for the extra cart.
Golf course was in amazing shape. It is a tough course, but the layout is fair. It is a 5 star course based on conditions and staff. But talking with Patrick and his attitude soured my experience.
Gorgeous views, great food, good service and awesome golf
The Grounds: It is evident that the owners take pride in the presentation of the club by keeping everything green, lush and exceptionally clean. It almost looks like a resort. There was PLENTY of parking for all of my guests and the ballroom is a landmark on the premises. No need to worry about guests not being able to find you.
The Ceremony Site: I used the Del Lago Garden for my ceremony and there was ample room for my 175 guests. The lawn was perfectly green and the view was spectacular.
The Food: No cutting corners or tiny portions here!! Nothing is worse than sitting at a wedding and feeling hungry. Cocktail hour with the tray passed appetizers were such a hit, the options you are given are really meant to fit all palettes and dietary needs. Guests were nearly full and dinner hadn t even started. The portions were pretty substantial. Our guests had a choice between Wild Sea Bass and Filet Mignon and each were equally as delicious. The Sea Bass was flaky and flavorful and the Filet was cooked to perfection. Rice and potatoes accompanied their respective proteins and we were able to choose which went with which. The veggies were so perfectly cooked, with just that perfect crunch finish. in addition to your cake you can have a LATE NIGHT DESSERT. Truly a wonderful dining experience. Food was piping hot where it should have been hot and nice and crisp cold where it should have been cold. Perfection.
The Staff: Everyone was so kind and attentive not only to me (being the bride) but to everyone. We had their full and undivided attention all night and they were so concerned with how I was doing and how mu guests were doing. Not one thing went overlooked, no cutting corners, and the bartender made the drinks nice and strong which was awesome because it got everyone loose and on the dance floor.
Catering/Event Manager: LAURA MAKES DREAMS COME TRUE! PERIOD. We met Laura on her day off, which already gave us a hint at her work ethic. She was so warm, welcoming and made us feel so welcome. The beauty of the club sells itself so not one word out of her mouth sounded like a sales pitch. She showed us the club top to bottom and showed us every option we could possibly choose from for our special day. Throughout the whole process working with Laura made the planning of this wedding so calm and relaxed. Her organization and confidence in her craft did not stress me out one bit. She was on top of communicating with me and covering every aspect of the event in a timely manner. Not once did I feel rushed to make a decision. She is also there for you to make any recommendations if you are stuck on a decision. My entire family just fell in love with her and the way she was able to fit our needs rather than make us fit the needs of the club. She wanted me to have my dream wedding, she executed perfectly and we love her for it. Mutual respect goes a long way I ll leave it at that
Very nice course in really nice shape! There are some pretty tough holes that make it a challenging course. Staff at this course was very nice and accommodating. I look forward to playing again soon and hope for a lower score the second time around. Tight fairways and the greens are in excellent shape.
One of the nicest public golf courses I've ever played (compared to Torrey Pines and Bethpage). Decided to get married here too (it was awesome). Challenging but fair. Always pure conditions and exceptional service and food.
Nice views, well manicured course, great staff. Make sure get the homemade lemonade after you turn in your cart. Dont miss out. Decent breakfast burrito.
One tough course! Errant shots are severly penalized and Greens can be tricky to read. But it's hard not to love the shear beauty of this track.
This is a bit of a hidden gem in San Diego. It's a great place to grab lunch with a beautiful patio overlooking the golf course. Fish tacos are awesome!
A very fun and challenging course beautifully maintained where each hole is unique from the last. The ambiance is certainly that of a private club but is accessible to those who like to play a different course every weekend.
If you are looking for a gimmicky windmill golf course then this is your place but for me its not golf it is just a product. I'm not saying it not fun but i just wouldn't want to play it all the time. It's a check it off I did it...never coming back.
Awesome design in great condition although greens had been punched. Hope to come back & play many times- beautiful views of the holes with many elevation changes but mostly downhill which presents a great scenic view of some gorgeous holes & a challenge for strategy & club selection. Lucky the golfer who confronts this beautiful challenge.
Again, top notch track. The Dali Lama himself would be impressed.
Got an awesome deal on golfnow app. Was recommended by many as a must play public course and it did not disappoint. Course was very scenic, greens and fairways were in excellent condition. Lots of elevation and because of that I would say the course plays a bit shorter then the scorecard suggest. Had alot of fun and would definitely play there again.
