I was surprised of how much I liked this place. Sometimes, restaurants located in such emblematic places (in front of San Luis Obispo Mission) tend to exploit their advantageus location by charging high prices and offering low service/quality. But this is not the case. Quality and service are great in this restaurant located, literally, in the plaza of San Luis Obispo Mission.
- Staff is very friendly and accommodating! The restaurant is kids friendly (at least for lunch).
- Ceviche is of great quality!

Food and service have declined somewhat over the past 3 years. My wife and I find a decline in menu options and slightly decreased service. Location and outdoor venue remain awesome. Food selections are fewer than previous years. Quality is fair and service is average. Prices are high for what you get. Drinks are awesome. Ever since they dropped Sunday night burgers the overall experience has dropped (on all days). Still a nice place but no longer our go to place. Overall an average experience which is unfortunate given the location. Any further decline will see Luna Red go the direction of Sebastian s and few other short lived businesses. Message to owners: up your game back to where you were in 2015 or be left behind.

Absolutely lovely patio. I had the caprese which was delicious. Only slight pain point was service but it was good enough - I got my food and I'm happy! Apparently they do update their menu seasonally so what you see in pictures might not be on the menu when you get there.

This is no longer Cielo and the cuisine is not mexican style anymore. They have tapas style cuisine, but its more california fusion. All the food is phenomenal. Our waiter was super helpful and knowledgable. Order the japanese style baked OYSTERS, stuffed piquillo PEPPERS, and the cornmeal crab FRITTERS all tasty options and perfectly prepared.

Luna Red has been one of the more successful businesses in a location that has had a lot of turn over. Their menu is unique, original and has some great local options. The wine list is great and overall the service is very good. The patio area is by far the best feature and always the place to sit. For food, I don't now that I have had anything there I didn't like. They also have some really good desserts. Overall a great spot for dinner or lunch.

Luna Red was wonderful! Matthew and I had the De La Luna Paella, bacon wrapped dates, sangria roja, Crema Catalan, and espresso. The Paella was beautiful, colorful, spicy, crunchy, the meats were tender and flavorful, the veggies fresh and aldente. The bacon wrapped dates were delicious and perfectly cooked, no soggy bacon layers in the wrap. The sangria roja lived up to the hype--and I am a sangria afficionado, so if it wasn't good, I'd know. The crema catalano was exquisite, perfect texture. Nice deep bodied espresso, too. The service was wonderful too--not too intrusive, friendly, fast, helpful. We never ran out of anything or had to wait long for a stop by from our waitress. Our table outside was in a quiet corner, pretty lights and red everything on the patio was romantic and we loved it. We will definitely be back! #newfavorite #foodie #lunared #paella, #crema catalano #sangriaroja

On one hand, I dislike this place because the tacos and ceviche are overpriced and average. On the other, I love this place because the paella is so good. The service is usually pretty good, although once the waiter gave me a hard time because he thought I was ordering too much food. Both the indoor and outdoor setting is nice. I'll be back, but only for the paella.

We had the Paella Del Mar (i.e., seafood paella), choosing the saffron rice. It was top-notch, along with the Caprese salad. Yes, we mixed Spanish and Italian, haha. Absolutely delicious food, and fantastic outdoor dining ambiance to boot.

Really nice outdoor setting and a great place to take someone you are fond of for a fancy breakfast. Sangria and mimosas are both really good and everything I have had for breakfast is delicious. I especially like the posole. It's a bit pricey but service has always been excellent.

Wonderful place in a wonderful location. A favorite place to send folks after a Secret SLO walking tour or a visit to the mission. Great food, great atmosphere, amazing sangria. Check out taco Tuesday and/or their happy hour. Great place to sit outside and people watch as well.

The food and atmosphere is fantastic but the staff are so slow . They're always friendly but it really ruins the experience and great qualities by having to wait 30 minutes after you finish your drink for your waitress to even come back to check in.

Yikes. Arrived here and the service was decent but our order of Eggs Benedict was delivered to us with hard boiled eggs. The sangria was also very watery. Had high hopes but was severely disappointed. The waiter was nice but didn t do anything to rectify the situation. Not sure how the other food is but benedict needs work.

First time here and my wife and I enjoyed it! We sat outside at the patio next to the creek and the mission. The servers were so attentive and friendly. We stuck to the happy hour menu and we were not disappointed! The happy hour clams were plentiful and their red sangria is awesome. I am looking forward to returning

Very good restaurant here in SLO! It seems to be really popular, and with good reason! Make sure you make a reservation if you're going during their peak hours. We arrived right when they opened, and by the time we were done, the place was pretty full. Very nice breakfast with a super interesting menu- each dish feels pretty unique, and I'm definitely going to try to come back here. Great job!

Tasty food, lots of nice outdoor seating, great cocktails.

I went here with 8 other people without a reservation on a Saturday evening and managed to get seated very quickly. We were all pleasantly surprised by that.

The only negative thing I would say is that the live music we heard was a little bit too loud at some points, but that was a tiny part of an otherwise perfect experience.

Luna Red has a Sweet spot, on location, for dinning.
It's location, right off the crossing & end of Monterey ST.
It sits above the famous Mission Crk
The creek itself, has activity from wildlife, that can be entertaining/&/or relaxing while you dine on local dishes, of seafood & other delights.

Came here for lunch with a colleague, the host was very awkward and unfriendly throughout service which was a bit off for my normal experiences.

Ordered the burrata salad for $12 very refreshing although wasn't what I expected description didn't seem quite right.

Pretty good happy hour, but I remember their tapas menu being much better before. Awesome outdoor seating and bar.

He celebrated his birthday in October 2016, on the road from Los Angeles to San Francisco. The restaurant was chosen by random choice, and did not regret it. Judging by the guest reviews, traditions are preserved.

Patatas bravas are fingerling potatoes cut into coin shapes, and not crispy. Good but different than I expected. The veggie paella was very pleasing, great acidity and perfect amount of crispy rice at the bottom of the pan

Hot up Luna's for some brunch on a Sunday. The location next to the mission is spectacular if you sit outside. Also there with a guitar singing some pretty cool laid-back songs on Sunday. Took my daughter and she loved her food. I love my food as well they had a huge drink selection. I got the breakfast nachos with don't sound very good if you're thinking about traditional nachos . But these breakfast nachos were spectacular. I think they're called taquillas but don't quote me on that. the only reason I gave him four stars is because I've been there twice and on one of the days it took them a long time to give us our food with no explanation. beyond that the food is really tasty it's kind of a fancy place. The food is excellent and it's a nice location downtown next to the mission

At the first moment you arrive in that place the stuff gives you a comfortable feeling. Very warm team, it is a nice restaurant to hang out with friends and colleagues or with your date. Excellent meals, experienced chef de cuisine, competitive cost and nice service. Highly recommended.

Absolutely amazing food and such friendly waitstaff. We were seated outside and they had no problem accommodating for our dog. The wait to be seated was fairly long but they have it set up so you get texted when your table is ready so you can walk around the city while you wait. Definitely recommend.

Thought we would try this place out for dinner. The atmosphere looked inviting, my wife and I love to eat outdoors. Well, I wish I could say that the rest of the experience was positive. First off, our server was absolutely terrible. It was like she hated her job. She was rude, got the order wrong and was just in different. No, tip for her. As far as the food goes, the kale salad was delicious. Don't get the quinoa burger unless you have plenty of drink to wash it down. There are plenty of other great places to eat in town. I would skip this one if you want to enjoy yourself.

Awesome patio environment. It right across the Mission in SLO. Above a creek. Food is delicious. It is a tapas place so the portions are on the small but they are quite good. The cocktails here are really good. Good place to meet up with friends or family to start a special night.
