Course conditions are always great, staff is always friendly. Pace of play is horribly slow. As a 3 person group, we finished in over 5 hours and spent most of the day sitting at the tee box chatting, sitting in the fairway chatting and in general watching the group in front of us disregard any pace of play warnings. They would not let us play through either. 5-10 minutes spent overthinking your next shot ruined an otherwise great day for golf.

Great place to play golf and also get a nice meal. On warm days you can sit outside on the patio and look at the view of the lake, downtown skyline, and golfers. I would definitely recommend their brunch. If you are an NC State student, you can even use your dining dollars here.

The course was in good condition and the bent grass greens excellent. The staff was friendly and accommodating; however, the pace of play was horrible. It took almost 3 hours to play the front nine and exactly 5 hours for the round. This was a week-day and during the morning hours.
The disturbing aspect was the three Rangers /Starters did little to try to get two very slow foursomes ahead of us moving. At one point, there were 3 groups on the 10th hole and the first slow group had at least 3 open holes in front of them.
A nice course but the snail's pace of play will probably keep us from going back anytime soon. There are many other courses in the Raleigh area that are a better value.

The course is amazing but hard as heck. If you are a beginner golf I would not suggest playing Lonnie Poole. It can play extremely long and there are tons of hazards. The bunkers are nearly impossible to get out of and the greens are challenging. It is obvious that NC State set this course up to be a collegiate course. I think the women's regionals are at this course in the near future.

Unless you are a single digit handicapped you probably will not enjoy this course. I would suggest trying some of the other courses in Raleigh to tighten up your game before heading over to Lonnie Poole. The scenery is amazing as you can see downtown from the back 9 but it remains to be challenging through all 18 holes.

Good driving range if you like people jammed up on you chatting with their buddies on your backswing, dudes backed up in the spot in front of you hitting off of where they should be standing, almost hitting you with their backswing, and multiple people hovering over your shots waiting on your space like vultures.
I just started playing again after not hitting a golf ball in twenty years.
Etiquette is part of the game.
I d just like to enjoy myself. I won t try to do so here again.
Update* Three stars for polite response here from manager.
The range still sucks though. Way too close together.

Wonderful Arnold Palmer design and the conditions are always very nice. Only downside is the rates can often be quite high and there are no 9 hole walking rates, even on late weekday afternoons.

Great track. Beautifully maintained and a fun layout. Pretty tough from the back tees but they have plenty of options depending on your skill level. Tons of bunkers so you have to play smart. Back 9 has some great views of Raleigh. Lots of elevation changes, long holes, short holes, dog legs etc. They just need to switch to Bermuda greens. Staff is extremely helpful and Nice -especially Scott Head Pro.

Just completed a 14 person golf trip to the Raliegh area. Everyone voted Lonnie Poole as the nicest course we played during the trip. The course management worked with our group to push back our tee times twice, due to the morning rain. The course was challenging, but fair. Would love to get back to the course again.

Our daughter plays on the Peggy Kirk Bell tour and this was our favorite stop of the season! The facilities were the best we have ever seen, from a beautiful locker room and restaurant to a great pro shop and professional fitting suite. The course conditions were excellent with plenty of challenge. We had a circumstance come up with a new push cart and one of the young men that works here helped us put it together just in time for tee off. Thank you Tyler Croon, you are my hero! Also thanks to Will Bennet, Phillip Shelton and Marc Hensel for making this a great experience.

It was probably only a matter of time, but I cannot express how disappointed I am in how quickly this course has fallen off. When it first opened, the conditions were amazing, just a notch below country club which is saying something for a public course. Now, the greens are in dreadful shape slow as molasses, ball marks not repaired. The tee boxes are overgrown and/or not level. There are several areas of the course, particularly around certain greens, that have replacement sod that isn't taking well.

Making matters worse, the service is questionable, at best. When I played there last week, upon checking in I asked warmly, "How are the conditions?" I was met with a snide response of, "Have you ever played here, conditions are amazing." That's all well and good, but the guy didn't bother to tell me THEN, when I was paying, that it was cart parts only. So basically, you misrepresent the conditions and don't inform guests that they will be walking in 98 degree heat until the starter makes that information known? Come on, guys.

Finally, at NO TIME during the entire round did we see a cart person with refreshments.

Ultimately, Lonnie Poole has a great layout and terrific views, but if it continues to be run in this manner, it will be a place to avoid. :-(

I was surprised by the quality of this course! It is an NC State University owned public golf course, but feels like a private country club. Designed by Arnold Palmer! Convenient and friendly service with an awesome facility.

I stopped by to buy an NCSU golf shirt for my son who is a recent graduate. My husband and I were in the golf shop for about 10 minutes with 3 pros working in the shop and no other customers. One pro was swinging a club, the other two behind the counter. We were searching for a shirt that I had found previously and we had come back to purchase. None of the staff acknowledged that we were there, never said a word to us even as we walked out the door. Needless to say, he won't be getting a shirt from Lonnie Poole.

Packed with people, starter was clearly drunk and didn't really care how many people went off. Wonderful course with beautiful vistas and great holes, but they need to schedule their tee times more efficiently and charge about $15 less than the current price for 18. Not worth the money, especially when a round takes at least 5 1/2 hours to complete.

This is my favorite public course in Raleigh. Very nice. Good layout. Not easily walkable because crazy distances between a few of the holes and the walker path is not clear. Nice staff. Wish they had a 9 hole rate so I could play there often.

Absolutely gorgeous golf course. A bit on the expensive side, but what else would you expect from one of the only College golf courses designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer. It's beautiful and it's definitely on the more difficult side as far as gameplay is, but it's always a pleasure to come here. Beat part is that it's public, but kept up with as if it's a private course. My favorite course in North Carolona so far!

I took a lesson with Daniel Spurling in the Trackmaster room. As soon as I left the 10-minute lesson, I was already swinging more consistently with my 9-iron. As a first-time golfer, he was very nice to work with.
