Thanks Lonehollow for kicking me out after finding out I had a past history with mental health issues. Because i had attempted suicide two years prior to attending, i was labeled a liability and was promptly booted out. There s an immense lack of empathy in regards to mental heath, and the only people who really looked after me were my counselors. Didn t get any refund (partial or whole) either. There were definitely fun times at this camp, but they all revolved around my friend group at the time and not the general activities that were provided. I felt like I didn t belong all three summers I attended Lonehollow

Lonehollow is an AMAZING camp. 1st class facility and staff. My kids LOVE it. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great summer camp experience for their children.
Our oldest has been going for 4 years now & our youngest for 2! It s an incredible camp! We have felt welcomed, loved & we keep coming back for more! They get to do/learn things they would never get to in the real world! It s a top notch camp where the staff is amazing & the experience is unforgettable!! We love it!!

Being a camp member for 6 years. It is the best camp anyone can go to. I came to camp knowing I was the only person from my state there. After the first year. I made so many friends. You learn so many people and life skills. Not to mention skills like archery, canoeing and kayaking, and horseback.
Horrible experience. Worked here as counselor. Work was intense and communication was poor. Seemed pretty good for campers. Over all would not recommend.
This camp is the best camp everr and evrwone is there to help you when you need help and this is my 6 year and I never ever get overwhelmed of coming here
The days I spent here as a camper were some of the best of my life. Now that I'm gone, I hope to provide an informative review for any prospective parents or campers, and also some points that Lonehollow could improve upon.
Food - The food at Lonehollow is good, but lacks variety. There are few alternatives to the dishes provided, and even those that are feel like an afterthought. Campers are given two snacks a day, ranging from grapes to ice cream sandwiches. Once a week, there is a picnic dinner, with soy butter and jelly sandwiches, watermelon, chips, etc. This is the one time in a week that campers can have soda, and they also have their choice of candy. There are lots of water fountains all over the campus, but, as of Summer 2018, none in the riflery/archery area. To compensate for this, the camp nurses drive around in a golf cart and provide gatorade and water. All in all, I rate the food at Lonehollow 7/10.
Activities - Lonehollow has a huge range of activities, which are listed in detail on their website. Please keep in mind that a camper may not be able to attend certain activities due to age, and may need to pay additional fees for others. My personal favorites were sailing, riflery and water games. All instructors have at least some basic training in their respective activities, but I can attest to the safety of the camp as in all my years there, I never saw an injury caused by the action or negligence of a counselor, or by a piece of equipment malfunctioning. I rate the activities 9/10.
Staff - I know nothing about the recruitment process at Lonehollow, but I do know that almost all counselors are college students from across the country. Occassionally, a bad apple makes it through, but it is always dealt with quickly before any damage is done. The full time staff are very friendly, devoted and helpful people. Some even double as counselors. I rate the staff here 8/10.
Crews & Crew Points - The camp is divided into three crews; the Mountaineers, Trackers, and Explorers. This can be a point of contention among younger campers, who have a harder time understanding friendly competition. Crew points are earned for exemplary behavior, winning events, and picking up trash after snacks. They are detracted in two ways: temporary minuses and permanent minuses. By my understanding, each minus is a penalty of one crew point, but I'm probably wrong. A temporary minus is more of a warning. If a camper has good behavior for two days after recieving one, it's removed. A permanent minus is an irreversable minus. Three of these result in expulsion from the camp (I think). The competition can seem forced unto campers, and the appeal of crew points can result in certain campers sucking up, desperate for them. A camper who doesn't want to participate in a crew event is prodded into participating. You can take that how you will. I rate the Crew System 6/10, as they can be unbalanced.
Cabin life - Cabins are divided by grade in school, not by actual age or maturity. Enjoyment of your cabin relies heavily on luck. This is especially true in the Treehouses, (7th grade +) where cabin sizes are usually about 8 campers in close proximity. Cabin fever exists to the extreme. The reason I had to leave this camp was actually because of a bad cabin mate. The experience also relies on the counselor. The two best archetypes are the strict but just counselor, and the laid-back but insistent counselor. I give cabin life a 7/10.
In conclusion, Lonehollow has some places to improve upon, but is, without a doubt, an excellent camp and an incredible experience. There are lots of things I glossed over, like the evening activities and water activities, but I believe you can find most of this information online.
Pretty disappointing camp. Counselors not well trained evidently and kids blamed for the counselors permissiveness. Or on the other hand counselors give bad marks for menial things. Just not consistent and a detriment to the children.
Camp Lonehollow is an amazing place where they allow all those involved grow to be their best selves. The traditions, the staff, the campers, the facilities are all top notch. I wish there were words to truly describe how life changing this camp is, I highly recommend this magical place to all!
