First time in SF, went here for dinner last night. It was busy so our group of 4 were understanding of the waitress Brier C being a little slow. But then she became inattentive to us. We found ourselves waiting for her. We ask her to split the checks. Before I could get another word out she was gone. She came back to pick get our cards. She was gone for about 10 minutes. Comes back and rudely tells us she spent 20 minutes trying to split the checks. We complain to the manager. He speaks with her. She comes back and slaps the cards and pen on the table. Brier is one of the worse serves I have ever experienced.

I ordered the ginger passion fruit soda which was AMAZING. My friends birthday dessert was also really good, sweet and light.

I do recommend the restaurant but not for a birthday dinner with a group.

Pricey but what do you expect? Excellent fish, but the various ceviches taste very similar to each other. They really tone down the heat for Western palates here...I wish hey wouldn t! But you ll love it.

One of the best Peruvian restaurants in SF. Not that many good Peruvian places in this area to compare with to be honest. Service was good. Our serves Ian did a great job. Good food quality.

There were 4 of us. Our food did not come out in a timely manner. Our server was rude and never informed us that or apologized that one of the dishes we ordered had sold out. My ceviche was lacking in flavor and was like layers of paste. A waste of money, time and appetite.

La Mar is excellent Peruvian food on the water on Embarcadero. There is a bar in the front which is great for happy hour with some good specials and excellent snacks. I particularly like the ceviche. For dinner, the restaurant is really nice with a warm, modern feel and a back patio that is tough to beat anywhere in the city. The service is friendly and formal and food comes out quick enough. Pretty much any seafood here is good. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Came here for a group dinner and had a wonderful time. We were seated in the covered patio in the back, which was really nice with the views of the bay. Food was delicious! The plantain and potato chips were a great start. We also got the ceviche, a mixed green salad, and the empanadas to start. I would highly recommend the catch of the day ceviche as well as the empanadas!! For mains, we had the sauteed beef and potatoes, quinoa, fried rice, and a seafood orzo dish. All were really good. The marscapone dessert was the perfect ending, not too sweet. Overall great dinner and a great place for large groups!

Great lunch on the patio with nice international wine selection. Our server Matteo was on top of service and killed it at out table. From being in the hospitality industry myself I truly appreciate the small touches of service. Thanks for a great time!

The architecture of the place and the atmosphere is great! Very diverse wine selection, staff friendly, smiling and open to discuss options. The food is good, would have expected great. Yucca chips are incredible! We did the mixed entre and lomo salteado. Lomo was better than the chevice. Overall a good experience.

Everything was wonderful. The cebiche was fresh. The grilled octopus satisfied a craving for adventure, and was tender and infused with a delightful smokiness and rich sauce. The mousse and alfajores were full of textures and flavors. The service was friendly and attentive. The view was beautiful. If we only dined out one time all year, I would like the experience we had at La Mar.

I've been here at least ten times by now and am always excited to taste their causa (whipped potato with seafood and vegetables) dishes. Their presentation is exquisite and my eyes go back and forth from the plate to the nice view of the bay. It is a great escape away from the touristy mayhem of the Saturday Ferry building crowd. I love the house made potato, plaintain and yucca chips with two sauces that arrive after ordering food. The chips are so non-stop good and go great together with the ceviches and causas.

You haven't lived until you've had an empanada from La Mar in San Francisco. These puff party pockets of gold are stuffed with one of four fillings: beef, chicken, mushroom or corn. La Mar also happens to make it to my list of favorite restaurants to visit in San Francisco. Everything from the food to ambiance is on point here. I'd recommend this place if you're looking to celebrate something special because this delicious food does come at a price. Regardless, La Mar, you've been my favorite for three years and counting so I will definitely be back for more.

Excellent food, wine, and natural light for a first date or any lighthearted gathering. Apart from the pretentious waiter, the ceviche was fantastic and fresh and I will definitely be returning.

The perfect spot to walk along the pier after and take in the water and stars. Also very close to Hard Water for a whiskey nightcap!

I come here about twice a year for lunch and it has always been a solid go to spot. With so many options in SF, it is hard to go to a place more than that unless it is truly spectacular or cheap. La Mar is good but it is neither.

The Cebiches on menu are all really good. Fresh flavors the balance the taste of the fish/seafood well. I would try the sampler if I was going for the first time. Same can be said about the empanadas, which I found tasty and well stuffed. The savory mix of pastry and meats are all well made. Try the different ones to see which is your favorite.

This bright and vibrant Peruvian restaurant is full of life and flavor. Whether you sit at the bar area or sit in the main dinning room, you won't be disappointed by this gourmands delight.

The selections of Peruvian spirits is great. They have beers, wines, and the hard stuff from Peru. The bartenders whip up amazing drinks with such detail and complexity in amazing speed and accuracy.

The menu is seafood heaven of Peruvian preparations, but can be a bit intimidating to decipher. It might be a good idea to study the menu in advance and/or view pictures online to preselect what you plan on eating.

The Peruvian ceviches , spelt cebiche are amazing. The fresh seafood preparations dazzle your taste buds with fresh zest, spice and a bit of heat. You just can't get enough.

Try a Peruvian beer to go with your meal or wine if you are not a cocktail drinker. They are light yet flavorful as well as compliment the flavors of the food perfectly.

Everyone was friendly, but it is rather busy, so you might not feel like you are being attended to. It is a busy place and everything they do is full of detail, so don't expect immediate service.

Defiantly will return when visiting San Francisco again and will not hesitate to recommend this place a must try.

The ceviche and cocktails are excellent. The atmosphere in the bar is really chill and the service was some of the best I've ever had. Once we got into the restaurant, however, the empanadas were mediocre, the main course (steak) was average, and the waiter made us feel we were inconveniencing him. The atmosphere outside was pretty cool though.

An intriguing spot serving both Peruvian cuisine c...

An intriguing spot serving both Peruvian cuisine classics and cute fusion recipes, using top shelf ingredients resulting in great quality food experience. We went in with limited knowledge of Peruvian cuisine and exploration in mind and left fully satisfied!

Two people shared a ceviche tasting and a causa tasting, then continued with corn empanadas and shared a quinoa salad with seafood entree.

Ceviche plate was what you would expect it to be made with delicious ingredients, the seafood was tender and leche de tigre (the marinade used) was full of flavour. Three versions we tried had very distinct flavours and features, making for a great exploration. I noticed almost every table ordered the tasting plate, making it one of their most popular dishes. I would go for the "mixto" ceviche next time I'm there, now that I've tasted their variety.

Causas tasting plate blew my mind, I recommend you give it a try, I'm still thinking about it. Potatoes used for each version are of different kind and the seafood/beetroot and different sauces complemented them perfectly.

I had low expectations for the corn empanadas, that were ordered as an add-on, worried we wouldn't be full, but they were delicious like a buttery corncob in a piroshki. Quinoa salad entree had too much of an asian fusion influence and I would not recommend it.

We finally shared an apple & quinoa desert a brilliant spin on a traditional apple crumble recipe using quinoa.

The interior is fine, but nothing to go crazy about. Their bathrooms are subpar, unfortunately. They could drop the prices by 10-15%, but all in all, this is a great restaurant and a fun experience. Our server was very happy to explain the history and different flavours found in Peruvian cuisine to us. Will definitely return.

Went for a work dinner and we got to sample a few of the dishes. The nikei cebiche was great (we were not too impressed with the classic one), the empanadas sampler was fantastic and then we ordered the beef and seafood rice from the entres. Both spectacular.

I am a big fan of Peruvian food. I come to find out that the original La Mar actually came from Peru and they have locations in Brazil, Mexico City, and...SAN FRANCISCO! On to the food: Ceviche, order any of them and all of them. Truly delicious, with great flavors and textures. The empanadas and causas were excellent as well. The yucca fries...Mmm! I can't remember one bad thing here. I would come back in a heartbeat.

Waterfront setting, warm service and tasty and fresh seafood and then some. Had the ceviche sampler. Love the Classic and Nikei while the California is too sour for my liking. I picked the El Adobo Atamalado (pork shank) was very good. The star on that plate was actually the Quinoa-corn Tamal sorta a cross between tamale and quinoa salad. Tres Leche dessert was also very good. Only problem, his huge restaurant that seats hundreds only have 2 toilets! (Single-occupant) Be prepare to wait in line for toilet.

IF THERE WAS 100 DEFINITELY I WOULD GIVE IT TO LA MAR!!!!
I LOVED THE FOOD AND THE ATMOSPHERE.
AMAZING DISHES WITH UNIQUE AND AUTHENTIC FLAVORS.
YOU WOULD NOT BE DISAPPOINTED WITH ANYTHING YOU CHOOSE FROM THE MENU ITS SPECTACULAR, BUT THE BEST WAS THE IMPECCABLE SERVICE GIVEN TO US BY CARLOS.
WHAT A FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING PERSON HE IS. HE TOOK HIS TIME TO SUGGEST AND EXPLAIN THE FOOD WE ENDED UP ORDERING BECAUSE OF HIS GREAT KNOWLEDGE.
DEFINITELY AN AMAZING RESTAURANT WITH A MAGICAL TOUCH OF DELICIOUS PERUVIAN GASTRONOMY.
COME AND EXPERIENCE THE WAVES OF FLAVOR @ LA MAR...
