Charming hotel, superb location, staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. State of upkeep not brilliant, lots of minor things eg clock not working, toilet roll holder so crooked it's useless, light not working, plumbing problems: toilet takes 15 minutes to fill up after flushing, etc

This Hotel was probably amazing in it's hey day but it is now quite tired and dated. On the plus side, it was very reasonably priced, very clean, very friendly staff and the breakfast was cooked to order and was piping hot and delicious. It is also on the sea front and 5 mins walk to the pier and near a really nice Italian reastuarant ( Gianni's )

Though I have given this place one star, it's not because of staff or food. The food is excellent and the dining & reception staff are wonderful; they deserve a better hotel to work in. The hotel gets one star as I have to give it something to be able to write a review; I'd like to give it a minus score for the hotel itself. I had to move three times due to faults; a major one being when the bathroom started to flood when I turned on the shower. The building is a wonderful Victorian place but, looking at the rooms (& I saw enough of them) and even the public areas, the whole place looks tatty. It was, evidently, 'refurbished' as quickly & cheaply as possible and by amateurs. OK, I'm not looking for The Hilton, but the electrical sockets on the wall were loose, the windows were stiff (not good with this heatwave summer), even the carpets weren't laid very well. Everything looked tatty & grimy. The beds were lumpy & uncomfortable & much of the furniture & fittings were broken. I happened to see the owner but he didn't seem interested.

The hotel staff looked after us and responded quickly and amicably to any requests. It was though a shame that the first night most of our party were freezing in their beds.

The carvery wasn't the best, would really have preferred is it wasn't part of our package. The desserts though were a good selection. The ballroom was a good size and it was kind they provided water for the dance group.

This is an old hotel; it's well maintained but showing its age in places. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as it gives it an authentic 'old world' air of nostalgia.

Not a place for young or jet-set travellers, but great for older folks, the staff are friendly and helpful and the menu is very traditional.

Watch out for the owner's gold obsession, you may even see the gold Mercedes. (Really... It's actually mirror finish gold).

Lovely hotel for staying for one night. I wouldn't recommend a weeks holiday as the rooms are rather small. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The room came with breakfast which I didn't try out. So I can not comment. The restaurant was full though so I take that as a good sign. It smelled good. I didn't have time to stop and find out. I would stay there again but for the price you could probably find a better hotel with larger rooms.

The hotel is on the seafront so a bit of a walk from the train station. The hotel does not have its own car park but there is on street parking nearby. Permits are available to buy from the hotel reception. Amenities are basic but clean. Staff are friendly enough.

It is a bit old and tired in places, and the rooms do vary. But it represents good value and a great location for getting to nearby shows.
If you are facing the sea, you get a glorious view, which includes the pier.
They also do a good three course meal but you need to book ahead to make sure if a seat.
