About Lifewire

LifeWire serves domestic violence survivors in East and North King County on their courageous journeys towards safety, stability and healing.

Lifewire: Empowering Domestic Violence Survivors towards Safety, Stability and Healing

Domestic violence is a pervasive problem that affects millions of people worldwide. It can happen to anyone, regardless of age, gender, race or socioeconomic status. In the United States alone, an estimated 1 in 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience severe intimate partner physical violence, sexual violence or stalking at some point in their lives. The impact of domestic violence goes beyond physical harm; it can also cause emotional trauma, financial instability and social isolation.

Fortunately, there are organizations like Lifewire that provide vital support and resources to domestic violence survivors. Lifewire is a nonprofit organization based in East King County and North King County in Washington State that has been serving the community since 1982. Its mission is to empower survivors on their courageous journeys towards safety, stability and healing.

Lifewire offers a wide range of services for survivors of domestic violence and their families. These include:

- Emergency shelter: Lifewire operates two confidential emergency shelters for individuals fleeing abusive situations.

- Advocacy: Lifewire advocates work with clients to develop safety plans tailored to their unique needs.

- Counseling: Licensed therapists provide individual counseling sessions for adults who have experienced domestic abuse.

- Support groups: Peer-led support groups offer a safe space for survivors to connect with others who have had similar experiences.

- Legal advocacy: Legal advocates help clients navigate the legal system by providing information about restraining orders, divorce proceedings and other legal options.

- Children's services: Trained staff members provide age-appropriate activities for children staying at the shelter as well as counseling services.

All of these services are provided free of charge thanks to generous donations from individuals and organizations throughout the community.

In addition to its direct services for survivors, Lifewire also works towards preventing domestic violence through education and outreach programs. These programs aim to raise awareness about the issue of domestic abuse as well as promote healthy relationships among young people.

Lifewire's impact on the community cannot be overstated. Since its inception over three decades ago, it has helped thousands of individuals escape abusive situations and rebuild their lives. Its commitment to survivor-centered care ensures that each client receives personalized attention from trained professionals who understand the complexities of domestic violence.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse or would like more information about how you can help prevent it from happening in your community, please visit Lifewire's website or call its confidential helpline at (425) 746-1940. Together we can create a world where everyone feels safe at home!
