Great service, great atmosphere and the street food section of the menu was to die for, actually so was all the desserts, and the entrees and the cocktails. Never tried the main meals but needed an excuse to go back anyway.

The room is dark and relaxed, the menu while largely a French Vietnamese combination also features sashimi and Greek lamb cutlets. We only had mains and coffee however everyone enjoyed their food. My pork belly was perfectly cooked and an interesting dish with a tasty cognac and chilli glaze that was perfectly spiced and went well with the refreshing side salad. It was a generous portion too. The stir fry with chicken or the equivalent vegetarian option were also declared to be winners. Service was prompt and personable. Next time the banquets sound like good value starting at $65.

it is a lovely restaurant with a unique manu. some of its dish have large amount of food, some are tiny. they claim to have a french-vietnamese style . food in general have delicate taste. however they havent master the delicacy of vietnamese food.

Really enjoyed it here, glad we chose it for our last meal in Australia. Only disappointment was the Moreton bay bugs, which could have been done with a more interesting sauce (more of a Vietnamese flavour perhaps?). Presentation of the dishes was excellent. Service was good and we enjoyed the wine.

A great night out, $65 for the 7 course banquet was worth it if you re looking to try a number of meals, all fantastic quality. Average price for cocktails was $18. Just be careful you don t get stung with the still water - $9.50! We had to ask for tap water as it wasn t offered, it s then served at room temp. Food was great, Service was just ok.
Nice atmosphere, we had a table near the road at the front - unfortunately the smokers walking past made it a bit irritating for a couple of the girls.
Inside looked like the place to be.
Also, prices on The Barracks site for this restaurant are out of date eg: $55 for banquet. The waiter explained they have no control over it?

Wow, one of the most tasty dining experiences I have had recently. Great service, very interesting variety of " street food" served in a warm cosy environment. Will be back again soon

I had eaten at Libertine once before so I arrived with high hopes yet was quite disappointed with the tasting menu. Duck tacos and lamb dumpling were good but the main courses had little sophistication and felt a bit thrown together. For a total bill of $200 between two people, we expected dishes to be better executed. We will not be back.

Not a great first experience. Waitress took our order which was for the 5 banquet. However they were wanting to charge us for 7 banquet due to a booking made online to reserve the table (not a confirmation/no pre-payment taken for the 7 course banquet ) Even though the waitress taking our 5-banquet order. They then decided to try and force us to pay for the 7-banquet. Instead of rectifying the situation and saying there was some miscommunication that has happened. Which we would of understood. The manger has said because of what has happened we have discounted the 7-course banquet but have your drinks finish your food and leave . Those words exactly said. So our take... Poor service, despite the food being good it was a very horrible experience. Can t forget how they got the orders wrong and waiting an hour for food to come out. Also how we made a booking for 7:45pm but didn t get our table till 8:30pm.

Shame they don t like walk ins. Walked into a half empty restaurant & was not even encouraged to stay for a drink. The manager advised no availability. I could book a table online...what s that all about?? Very disappointing customer service :(

Every item on the menu sounded appealing so we ordered 7 course banquet and were really impressed with the freshness and flavour of the food. Everything was delicious! The creme brulee at the end of the banquet was savoured spoon by spoon - a superb way to end the meal. The staff were friendly and attentive. Very happy with the choice of restaurant.

My favorite for dinner in Brisbane. I just adore the pork spring rolls and the cocktails are fantastic. Amazing atmosphere too and the staff are always helpful, attentive and well mannered. It's my go to place for consistently good food and cocktails.

Very interesting and delicious Asian food. Very nice service delivered. Very delicious western-style Asian food, the service is also great, and the environment is very elegant. The dishes are a bit pricey but worth it. Very recommended

Have visited this place a number of times. Staff have always been lovely even when we as customers have been a bit difficult! Food is amazing, great flavour combinations, nice and fresh. Cocktails are great and the atmosphere is wonderful. Will keep coming back again and again!

I went to Libertine over a year ago with my partner and visited again the other night. Both times were such great evenings. We love that you can choose to be seated in a booth. The food is absolutely beautiful and tastes really fresh. The staff were very friendly, accommodating and efficient. And the Pink Lychee Cosmo cocktail was spectacular! One of our favourite restaurants in Brisbane. We will definitely be back! :)

We have been a couple of times before - but were worried about some of the odd crazy-low scores that we'd seen on reviews - we wondered if it had lost its mojo.

Absolutely awesome meal

The starters were fought over by the family - negotiations quickly turned to attempts at downright plate smash and grab. We had the Braised Angus Cheek Dumplings, Vietnamese Organic Pork Spring Rolls and Mushroom, Tofu & Smoked Speck San Choi Bao.

Still I worried about those reviews - maybe we had just been lucky with the trouble-causing starters ??

We chose individual dishes to share instead of the selection / banquet options.

I was relieved we did as we went for the larger Bug Curry option and it was a stunner. The pork belly was perfect and I also really enjoyed the Crispy Baby Barra.

Desert heralded another fight across the table - the Banana Beignets were my fav, just ahead of the Creme Brulet and Choc Hazelnut Fondant.

We won t be leaving it so long between drinks again !

To those who left bad reviews - whaaaaaat !

Writing this on Valentine s Day put me on the spot, but make no mistake. I was not here on a hot date (even tho the place was fully booked tonight, and it was not hard to understand why); I was actually here for a coffee, and the coffee became an opportunity to spoil myself with a truly decadent dessert: Banana Beignets - French banana doughnuts holes served with roasted coconut ice cream, mandarin syrup & chocolate soil (or should I say soul?). The place is decadent, with French music of all times, chandeliers and dark wood robust furniture. It s French Vietnamese, or European with a view to Asia. Customer service is second to none. Very few places like this in Brisbane. Coming back again and again. Happy Valentine s.

We had the nicest night; the food, service and ambiance was great. Choices on the menu was diverse and interesting. We opted for a banquet but chose what we wanted in it. Oh my goodness! The flavours! So delicious. To me, one of the best nights out i've had in a long time. OH and GREAT music too!

We went there last night; the food was ok but not great and the service was fine, but from three or maybe four different people. When I paid, I was asked straight up for a tip. Now, I'm a tipper, but I hate to be asked and usually say no if asked outright. This time, with good grace, I added $20 to a $180 bill but was taken aback when the waitress did not say thank you or even acknowledge it with a flicker of a smile. I'll never go back.

Took my partner here a while a go for valentines day for a seven course set menu with wine pairings. I only do reviews in detail and Libertine deserves a thoughtful review.

The restaurants atmosphere, decor and its sense of being is very on key with the classic European chic restaurant they are. From the deep dark well nourished plush leather bench seats, to the stylistic wooden furniture. The lighting is mark of intelligence on your designers part, with the sparse lighting in the restaurant area and over hanging large red light shades, giving an air of intimacy and privacy. With the bar and other key parts of the restaurant well let.

The set menu started with dumplings which were simply magical, a pleasant aromatic sauce had my partner and I instantly enchanted. A chicken dish followed that was juicy and beautifully presented. Dish after dish hit the mark and even the salad which I personally didn't enjoy, had to admit it was not the fault of the chef but purely my own preferences and still enjoyed the artistry that went into making that salad so tantalizingly tempting.

The staff are vigilant and quick to pick up on ques their services is required. They all deserve praise for their hard work and dedication, with of course special thanks to your team of chefs that provided such a special and wonderful evening.

Excellent service and unusual presentation of Vietnamese food. Some of them, though look great but don't quite make the mark. For an instance: the whole fish with tamarind sauce, would have been perfect had sufficient sauce been provided and the small salad on the plate tossed in a simple dressing.

The theme is around shared food, so it's like Asian food in the sense that you order and share the servings, but it's all Modern Australian.

Food was fantastic, the Pork Belly was the clear winner for us, as were the duck crepes. The service was fantastic, and everyone was really friendly. Wine / cocktail list isn't bad either.

Will be going back again for sure!

Was at libertine for their Valentine's Day banquet a while back. Service was on point, food delivered quickly. I particularly enjoyed the scallops - no doubt will definitely eat here again

The Barracks complex includes a grand old building that has retained a certain character and charm in the transformation from very austere days as the Queensland s Police barracks.

The Libertine Bar and Restaurant, one of the restaurants in this beautifully restored building, manages to retain the late 1930s architecture and produces a casual, comfortable and very welcoming restaurant.

When you enter Libertine there is a sense you are somewhere special and have an expectation of a memorable experience.

Our visit was for a pre-cinema dinner, and we weren t sure what to expect, but we knew the style was French-Vietnamese and there was a range of styles from snacks, street food and share dishes.

We opted for all three styles and shared dishes from the three sections. There are also banquet options.

The food was creative, exciting, edgy, had sensational flavours and was well presented.

Check out the menu online for details, but do try the zucchini chips, the Vietnamese fried chicken and the green wrapped lamb bundles.

Because of the variety and style of dishes on the menu, you could stay with the snacks, or just us street food, or go bigger with the shared plates.

The staff are attentive, and informative and friendly and make you feel welcome.

The wine and beer and other beverage selection is wide, although we only tried wine by the glass and on tap beer.

Dad & I had Xmas lunch here today & it was exceptional..! The food was absolutely scrumptious - 8 courses (they let us take two home) - the service, atmosphere & drinks were all superb - well done to a great team..!

I had dinner here with a group of friends and it was a great experience. It's a stylish but relaxed venue with service that I found remarkably good - it was well timed, friendly, helpful, not intrusive. The staff are clearly well trained and are focussed on giving you the best experience. There is a comprehensive drinks menu, including some great spritz cocktails and good wines. The food menu is inspired and all the dishes we ordered to share were beautifully presented, fresh, with delicious flavour and texture combinations. The pear, walnut and gruyere salad was a standout dish, but all dishes were great, including the small bites we had first with drinks. There is indoor and outdoor seating. An impressive place for a group catch up!

'Libertine' - is a freethinker and/or one who freely indulges in sensual pleasures without regard to moral principles.
On any given day, I could be misrepresented as guilty of all, but on this recent evening - I was just being me, except now in rare and very fine company, albeit struggling to restrain my urging, somewhat nervous palate and regal demeanor.

Parking is hell to begin with. Secure Parking - Barracks, Petrie Terrace, offers an unwelcome nightmare with no signage indicating 'no parking forever'.
'The Shining' wore thinner than the first coat on my now teenage Hyundai.
30 mins of wishful thinking up and down multiple levels of car park somehow sucks the evening enthusiasm right out.

However - upward and beyond ... a vacant car space is coerced ... and few breathless moments later upon entering Libertine, a much welcome sigh of silent relief, lovely service and no 'angry teacher faces' for my 45 mins late start.

The restaurant is packed tight with happy people of no specific age or demographic - except all the single women 30 - 50 clutching empty bottles of wine.

The menu however, confuses at the onset with 'Streetfood' v 'Shared Plates'. I soon learn if you Google 'Streetfood', it means "sandwiches/crepes" in France. But here at Libertine, it is a small delicious dish with much variety. Whoever created this menu using the French 'Streetfood' terminology, should be fired and deported back to Germany.

If you then Google "small delicious", a completely unrelated set of web pages somehow load.

The quality of the dishes exceeded expectations. Small - perhaps a touch too small, yet extremely tasty, enhancing the evening discussions inviting the enjoyment of the meal ... and providing a stop-gap between awkward exchanges - if anyone ever needs to have those ...

The service levels excel. It was a full house but the most friendly and genuine staff were always available and happy to chat, about things and stuff.
Excellent restaurant overall. I will be back, likely alone but in faith of another delicious experience.

Was there on NYE and had a great time.
The style of the place and the decor is well thought and polished, giving a very nice and sophisticated atmosphere.
Food was excellent, a good fusion of french and vietnamese style. We very much appreciated the relaxed approach, it makes it easier to share plates and taste a lot of different stuff.
Service was on par with the rest of the experience, polite and reliable.
We'd definitely like to come back.

Great night as always. The staff are always awesome, attentive and friendly without being too intrusive. Great food, great ambience.
Libertine are amazing and have kept their standards up year after year.

Great food but poor service. Waiters were nice but not attentive enough. Waited over 30 mins for plates to be cleared and as the night got later (9:30-10pm) they would not come by to take further orders or drinks. Ended up leaving even though they were open and we wanted to eat and drink more.

Staff were efficient and friendly. We had the special Valentine's Day shared banquet. Food was fantastic except for the dessert, which had too much gelatin and not enough taste which was a disappointing end to an otherwise lovely meal.

Such an amazing restaurant. The food is gorgeous, the drinks are good and the atmosphere is lovely. I ve sat inside and out and enjoyed both. The staff are knowledgeable and great. If I had any issues or wanted something extra they were only happy to help and did what they could even during these COVID times. Will visit again and again.

My mother, two sisters and I went to Libertine in the Festive Gooch , also known as my birthday and had the Premium I m Hungry Banquet. It started off with small canape sized morsels coming to the table. We were worried at first that we might leave a little peckish. Then the mains came out. They were huge, and we ended up taking half of it home. We loved the Wagyu Rump, the Lamb Bundles, Crab Sandwich and Chat Potatoes. The best things we ate were the Japanese Scallops and Moreton Bay Bugs which were fresh, cooked perfectly and bursting with flavour. We would go back just for those two items alone. The pork belly for some reason had some dry slices and some perfect slices which was odd and the duck pancakes weren t overly good; I can t pinpoint why. For dessert we were meant to get the Banana Beignets but, sadly, my birthday was ruined when we heard they d run out. Kidding. They were replaced with Chocolate Tarts that tasted just like a Jaffa but, they were so rich that no-one could finished theirs. We were looking really pregnant at this point from so much food so we basically had to waddle straight home to bed with our doggy bags. Overall, a pretty great night out.

My Wife and I had a wonderful time at Libertine. I had booked online and said as Shauna was 7 months pregnant a comfy spot would be preferable. Upon arrival we were shown to a cosy booth for two and the service was prompt and excellent. The Food was spectacular and was promptly delivered from course to course. My wife and I have dined Al Fresco in the outside area of Libertine several times before and enjoyed it, this was the first occasion we took the time to sit inside and just enjoy the space while we had dinner with no rush. Your staff were on point and while attentive, were not in the least intrusive; which is a hard balance to strike in any setting. We had a relaxed, enjoyable and delicious evening and we will be back again, and again, and again. Did I mention we will be back again?

It was just the evening we were hoping for and as date nights go, we couldn't be happier.

We attended on Saturday for our Aunties 59th birthday thank you firstly for putting up with all of us, hours of cocktails and amazing food mixed with fabulous service! So glad to of discovered such a great place and you are local to us! My only suggestion is for The Barracks to come on board with free parking for people that are attending lunches/ dinner for over the two hour period.

Crushed.

Crushed.
As in too many tables and chairs crushed into the available floor space.
Staff cannot walk around freely to serve meals and take away empty plates - instead they have to lean across tables and ask customers to pass things to them.
Agree with another guide's comments on the sea scallops - they were perfectly round and perfectly tasteless.

My cousin piled us into Libertine for my grandmother's 82nd birthday [although we all know Nana would have preferred to be out clubbing all night] The atmosphere and the restaurant were flippin' outstanding. The food was amazing albeit a little pricey for the size of the meals.
The pork bellly was insane, and wife especially loved her popcorn chicken.
Our bearded, septum-wearing waiter was attentive and quick, and seemed to know exactly when we were ready to order. If you get that guy, you have nothing to worry about.
The desserts were extremely tasty and the coffee was well made.
The location is 5 minutes from Roma St station, but sadly we booked the same night as the footy and Ed Sheeran so trying to find a park took us 30 minutes. [They'd closed off the Barracks car park]
We all had a great night in the end. Well done, Libertine.
