Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati Review

Over the course of two years, I got 3 different stories of why they couldn't help me until blank blank took place with my situation. Well all the blanks happened and each time I was given a non- helpful number. This place was a very BIG waste of time, I can't give zero stars but they definitely deserve that many!!!! I did get help from the Help Center in the main court house, their free and I won my case against my old Landlord. Whomever is reading this PLEASE go get free help right around the corner at the Main St. Court House!!!! The Sheriff's inside will direct you to the Help Center and they will help you the best way possible!

I wish I could give zero stars, Never heard anything back from anyone when I reached out for help. Terrible

The apartment building where I currently reside is in foreclosure. Even with that my rent kept increasing and I was becoming very stressed. Was not eligible for Unemployment. Ruby Wells told me how to apply for Pandemic relief and it worked. Thanks again, Ruby.

I have called them 5 times today, and Friday of last week. When I called Friday the receptionist told me that no one was in the office to help me, and I was just informed that they are in the office on Friday. Every time I call, everyone is busy and they tell me if I would like to call back I can. Waste of my time...........

I contacted them about helping me file bankruptcy and they won't help me because I am not a vet, my wages/bank account aren't being garnished, and my utilities aren't shut off. It doesn't seem to matter that I lost my job of ten years due to illness, that I am a single parent, and have zero income. Yet I don't qualify for legal aid!!! Ridiculous!! Something should change here.

The young lady who returned my call was very Friendly, Courteous & helpful.

i agree with the previous review.. difficult to reach and when i did get to speak to someone i waiting a long time and she was quite rude and did not seem to the know the landlord/tenenat laws, gave me bad advise and rushed me off the phone.

So far so good. My lawyer has been great and has helped me a great deal with my case. It is still ongoing so we haven't reached an outcome yet but she definitely makes me feel like I have a voice and I have somebody on my side. Give them a call if you are going through some legal trouble and see if they can help.

I didn't desire to give this horrible place one star! These unprofessional people were given 2 cases months ago, but I'm just hearing back from them that they were not taking either case. They had no good reason for denying further case, as I'd completed the investigation and groundwork. Losers!

They don't help at all.. They don't listen they only give you other numbers to call .. No HELP WITH LEGAL ISSUES.. THESE DAYS NO ONE CARES ABOUT ANYTHING.. JOBS THAT DEAL WITH PATRONS AREN'T SERVICING LIKE THEY SHOULD

They deleted my first review. Legal Aid attorney Elizabeth Tull Laureano misrepresented my son while I was trying to obtain special education services at Winton woods city school district which resulted in him being denied a free and appropriate education and being abused by school staff for years. She is most interested in maintaining relationships with the school districts instead of advocating on her clients behalf. Don t bother contacting the director of the agency she won t do anything. File a complaint with The Bar instead.

They are rwady to help those in need. In Cincinnati this is the place to go.

I was thinking about filing bankruptcy 3 years ago, called in about it but the fee they said they were charging I couldn't afford, so i never thought about it again.Three years later today, i had some unfurnate events happen that made me want to reconsider bankruptcy. I called legal aid, to be told they still had an active case for me from three years ago and she did not know if she should open a new case. So she referred me to a lady name Rhonda Tucker; who's tone was unpleasant as soon as she called me. She proceeded to tell me that it had been 3 years and that lawyer did not have to take on my case and it would be closed and I needed to start a new case. I asked why didn't the other lady tell me that I would have done that yesterday, she responded and said well you waited three years. I replied, "wow, that was rude, and unecessary you don't know my situation and she said ok and hung up. Then I called the main line and wanted to start a new bankrutcy ticket and someone trannsferred me to her again, for her to tell me sorry we are no longer accepting new applications. Wow, talk about retaliation and rude service. I know there service is free but I would still expect some type of customer courtesy. I will file bankruptcy myself before I will ever call this company again.

I'm extremely surprised at the commitment and duty provided by my lawyer. He is working hard with me and putting in the work to make sure I'm not brushed under the "less fortunate " rug and he makes sure I understand what is happening and how. I have options and my opinion matters. I have rights and I feel they are protected. I highly recommend calling if you need help. Worst thing you could hear is a no sorry have a good day.

They wouldn't help me with a landlord tenant issue referred me to Modest Means a lawyer referral program who also refused to help and referred me right back to legal aid. They don't help none whatsoever. If I could rate no stars I would.

6/25/20 The woman I spoke with on the phone last week (Natalie) was very pleasant & gave me some useful info.

They don't help when help is needed there's a process like 2 to 3 month spand when the problem is today

The most Nobel organization in The USA. People dedicated to help those who have most difficult cases.

It's a scam. Don't waste your time. Just a few attorney's claiming to do pro bono work for their resumes. They will not help you even if the case is simple to work. Ghetto hood rat sounding phone answerers. Trust me don't waste your time, but if you insist just remember I told you so.

The lawye never kept in contact with me.I felt that I didn't have a choice.

I had 2 problems that i needed help with. I left a message & my call was promptly returned. Based on my current needs for assistance, I would need to speak to 2 lawyers in their respective fields. Both lawyers returned my call the same day. I was not expecting such a quick response. Due to transportation problems, one lawyer, Steven came
to my home. I have been treated by them with the utmost kindness & respect. I feel the lawyers that work there are very passionate & wish they could help everyone that walks thru their doors & are troubled when they can't. Unfortunately, they are funded by the government & their hands are tied on how much they can do. They perform a service like no other & receive very little recognition. I feel very grateful that they were able to assist me. Don t give up on them. If they weren't able to assist you now, don't give up on them entirely, you may need their assistance in future.

Legal Aid has helped me on several occasions.
Please understand that these attorneys are working pro bono (for free).
As such, in my own experience, they won't get back to you on YOUR time line. I had to wait weeks for an attorney to get back to me but she helped tremendouslyagain and it was free.
As they say, you get what you pay for but I do highly recommend legal aid as they can be very helpful. And have been in the past for me.

I should clarify, they'll set you up with an attorney relatively fast, but conversion between you and your attorney once they've been established may take a little work.

Ever though they couldn't provide me services in court, they were very helpful with giving me advice and pulling up paperwork. I didn't have to go through Red Tape for. Also, resources for help was provided.

I had to give one star to leave a review. Legal aide doesn't go to court for you or much advice either. They give you a lawyer referral Service that only refers lawyers that you have to pay for all services, no pro bono

God Bless help from this service for people who need it like my MIL.

So I called for help with bankruptcy and because my license are not suspended and I make bare minimum I don t meet the qualifications. So I guess their saying they want you to be dead broke living outside in a cardboard box to receive help smh.

I hate to write a negative review of an organization that I believe does valuable work. However, I contacted Legal Aid regarding help with a landlord/tenant issue. Since then, I have talked to three lawyers, all of whom have told me the advice I got was 100% wrong.

Very helpful gave me great advice where to turn since I was needing help with a divorce.

Rolling over and dying like a cockroach, is not what the people who use this service deserve. Just because they need the help doesn't mean they and their families don't Matter. The people in this office should what to fight hard to help their clients, because they are what they can afford. Justice should not be determined by who can pay to make the matter at hand disappear. Bullying clients because they ask questions is wrong, when families are involved sometimes the smallest people count more than the money it take to fight in court.

They do not represent cliants. They need to represent cliantes every every time

I didn't spend enough time here to give a helpful opinion. What I can say is that the intake clerk got me in, I was seen in 5 minutes time. I can edit my review if my experience with this organization expands. **Update, my experience with this organization will not be expanding at this time. According to a letter I received, Legal Aid receives 30,000 calls each year. I'm sure that this High volume of calls is why careful consideration of cases and their nature is at the root of their decision to take on only specific cases. Legal Aid is a viable resource for people who are in need of legal representation and their income does not exceed a certain amount. Although it is entirely true, I dislike typing or saying it out loud, 'the working poor doesn't stand a chance in this society'. That is a truth that is hard too dismiss. Organizations as such are under too much pressure to meet the needs of the public.This organization and similar ones often lack the resources and manpower to impact more than a few. Don't let this deter you from getting representation if you need it. However, it is something to keep in mind. There's parking right next to the building. The parking is almost never Free. Be prepared to pay a minimum of $5 (bring a credit or debit card). There's also metered parking on the street. I forgot to pay close attention to what Metro routes run through this specific area. But the Metro comes very close to here. Definitely Walkable. There's an Elevator which makes this convenient for those who are not able to take the stairs. Always bring a current and valid form of identification. Doing so will also add ease to the process. Good Luck!

As Many Problems I've Had Living In Apartments Legal Aid Doesn't Give Good Solution Or Advice To Problems By The Time The Courts Are Involve It's Too Late Once A Eviction Takes Places Only Then Legal Aid Steps In.... Ur Face To Deal With Even More Problems........

They'll provide you with any legal concerns, your rights, including the process and cost, if any at all. My experience has always been a simple, short and successful, process.

Inadequate paralegals! I was able to conduct my own independent research that CLEARLY contradicted what they supposedly found. I'm convinced that they're under the impression that those requesting their assistance are not capable of obtaining a second opinion. I'm also convinced that, they all just sit behind a desk and respond to possible clients with the same lazy line "We are unable to help you" SAD! I'm pretty sure that the couple of people who gave good ratings, either work for this organization or are associated with them in some form or fashion. A waste of government funds!

Wait wasn't too long. Very clean and professional. Staff is amazingly friendly.

They are a scam, they get money from governent, and live you out to hang, I will be writing the bar to let them know they need to review there cases, and will call and write my congressman, this is appalling. A. Person is verbably, phicically abused, and is disabled, finely gets the guts to get out of a 20 year marriage, out Thier legal aid lawyer sales them out. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE, USE THE INTERNET, I WISH THAT I DID FOR MY SISTER, SHES PROBLEY GOING TO BE IN POVERTY FOR THE REST OF HER YEARS. AND STAY CLEAR OF THE HILLSBORO CO. COURT HOUSE AND ABUSE CENTER, THEY GOT IT ALL FIX HERE.

They kept telling me to call back in 20mins did it 4 times then they put me on hold after being on hold for 10 mins they hung up plus receptionist was very rude.

I am really grateful for what they did for me, they were all helpful. I did not have any difficulty to reach them. My caseworker was Ms.Jenny Zellars. Wow, I still remember her name. She was awesome. Thank you.
