Learning Policy Institute: Improving Education Policy and Practice through Independent Research
The Learning Policy Institute (LPI) is a non-profit organization that conducts and communicates independent, high-quality research to improve education policy and practice. Founded in 2015 by Linda Darling-Hammond, LPI is committed to providing policymakers, educators, parents, and the public with reliable information on effective educational practices.
At LPI, we believe that every child deserves access to a high-quality education. Unfortunately, many students in the United States are not receiving the education they need to succeed. Our research focuses on identifying policies and practices that can help close achievement gaps and ensure that all students have access to excellent schools.
One of our key areas of focus is teacher quality. We know that teachers are the most important school-based factor in student learning. That's why we conduct research on effective teacher preparation programs, professional development opportunities for teachers, and strategies for recruiting and retaining high-quality teachers.
Another area of focus for LPI is early childhood education. We know that children who attend high-quality preschool programs are more likely to succeed academically later in life. Our research examines effective early childhood policies at both the state and federal levels.
In addition to our research efforts, LPI also works closely with policymakers at all levels of government to promote evidence-based policies that support student success. We provide testimony at legislative hearings, offer technical assistance to state agencies developing new policies or regulations related to education reform efforts.
Our team includes experienced researchers from a variety of backgrounds including former educators; policy analysts; data scientists; economists; sociologists; psychologists among others who bring their expertise together towards improving educational outcomes for all students across America.
We also collaborate with other organizations working towards similar goals such as National Education Association (NEA), American Federation of Teachers (AFT), Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) among others.
At LPI we believe it's essential not only conducting rigorous studies but also communicating findings effectively so they can be used by those who make decisions about how best serve students' needs across America.
In conclusion: The Learning Policy Institute is dedicated towards improving educational outcomes through independent research aimed at informing policy decisions made by stakeholders involved in shaping America's future workforce - its children!
