Ventilation problem causes clothes to smell like grilled food. Charming bistro setting. Food quirky with too much sauce enveloping duck breast and also crepes.
Staff very nice and accommodating

The food was good but the service was despicable. We sat with dirty dishes on the table for over 20 mins. No one cleaned it up, until we asked. No one asked if we wanted more wine, coffee or dessert. They didn't even know how to give suggestions on the food. The manager never came over to out table, after we made a complaint to the waiter. They didn't even try to compensate by offering us dessert or coffee on the house. I will never go back or recommend this restaurant.

Meh

Went for a "date" with my son the day after Thanksgiving. The description read "parisian ambiance" but OMG the music almost ruined the nice food & wine, a playlist from a cheap mall is elevating the sum of terrible Christmas tunes we had to listen to. The staff was responsive to my complaint, but it took until half our meal was done for the music to be changed. It's sad when nice food is totally diminished by the "ambiance". If any one responsible for this business reads this think about: anyone going to a french restaurant on the holidays is probably trying to not be bombarded with chain store xmas tunes...

Cozy French restaurant, love the Escargo as usual, the paella is a bit too watery to my taste though. I usually don't have much desert, but the profiteroles are simply amazing and highly recommended.

Very cute, authentic French bistro in the food desert that is midtown east. The food was very good, the atmosphere and service was even better. Get the escargot and the mussels! Also, the lunch prix fixe is an incredible deal.

Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful staff and so, so delicious food! The mussles and frites were perfect and my husband's paella de la mer was wonderful. And did I mentioned that it was our anniversary? Everyone made the evening so special. Hoping to go back again when we're in NYC!

Well known as a wine bar, this small, friendly boite consistently serves up the most authentic bistro fare in NY. The duck confit was perfectly done on my first visit, so I followed up on weekly visits with poulet roti, steak frites, steak tartare, along with their delicious appetizers and deserts. From a fan of French bistros, this ranks number one. Enjoy!

Asked the manager to lower the salsa music they were blasting super loud, to which he made it even louder. Ruined my date because we could not out scream the music. At least their cooks enjoyed it as they were bopping their heads to it.

Food is mediocre ,but service is horrible and it such a shame ,because the place is cute, unfriendly ,nobody would ask if you need another drink. they cannot wait to clean and give you your check and see you go. Visited a place in the past was much better , no wonder its usually empty lately

I loved being at Le Bateau Ivre with Samy. He gave me the best recommendations for food and wine and also told me about the best places to go in New York. It was truly an experience, finally I felt I was talking to a waiter who wasn t a robot.

It s the only mystical wine, bar bistro left in town. Come and get it...you won t be disappointed! It s been going for 20 years...a true NYC institution!

Underrated! Real bistro atmosphere with great food and wine. The beef tartare is on of the best in town, the cassoulet is finger licking good and the wilted strawberries in balsamic vinegar over vanilla ice cream is to die for.
And nowhere else I know you can get such a great variety of execllent wines by the glass.

Iphone was stolen while I ate diner at the bar. Staff were not helpful. They said the surveillance tape did not have my phone in it. Seemed very sketchy. The place was empty and they said the guy who had been sitting next to me was a regular client.

I was in New York for 5 nights. This was our most expensive meal and possibly the least memorable food. It was absolutely freezing cold as there are poorly shutting glass doors which I assume open in the summer. The service was very poor. The waiter was rude in that he didn t appreciate the concept of service.
He queried that I wanted two sides one veg and one potato. He then also made me feel awkward about ordering the apple tart as it takes some time to prepare. I thought they were closing or something and he was looking to get rid of us. But they weren t!

The tables are very close together which didn t bother me but did allow me to witness a solo diner who ordered a glass of wine . He was then given a carafe of water . He said I don t want water. The waiter basically ignored him and said have water and left the carafe. About 20 minutes later the man had to ask for his wine. The waiter had obviously decided he was having his wine with his food and only once it came no matter what the gentleman wanted. He was dining on his own, so if he wanted his wine when he sat down I can t see why he wasn t given it after he ordered.

I wouldn t recommend

How can you not love this place?

How can you not love this place?
Lunch, afternoon coffee, wine, dinner this is the place. It has that "neighborhood place " vibe. Food is great, an great wine list and wonderful ambiance. Midafternoon if you want to meet someone for coffee go here. Quiet, cozy, low noise level. If coffee isn't your thing, then go for a glass of wine
Good is delicious, presented well and definitely Instagrammable

I go here because consistently great steak tartare and a great wine list they are happy to let you taste. Everyone enjoyed their food, excellent steak frites with a peppercorn sauce that is good by itself, great salmon.

Went again after a too expensive Italian dinner around the corner and was kicking myself for not spending all that money here on a better bottle and just plain tasty food. Fantastic in all key dimensions, ambiance, food, wine... can't wait to introduce another person to this establishment.

Good breakfast option! The place was small and cute. Full of great brunch options.

The space is so small that their live band makes it too loud to hear your own thoughts while enjoying your food. The servers couldn't decide whether to be attentive or ignore us for an hour.

Quintessential Parisian!! Casual bistro style with fantastic and authentic food. The onion soup was one of the best we have ever had including the dozens of bowls actually in France. The chicken dish was superb and the house made profiteroles are life changing.
A must for any lover of French cuisine.
PS: great service too !

I wanna say something about the service. This has to be one of the worst French bistros in NYC I ve been to when it comes to services. There s this old tall guy, wearing glasses, who would serve you with a condescending attitude as if you owed him money. I would always say thank you whenever he brought out a dish and he barely looked at me, put the food down and left, as if I m supposed to be super grateful for his service. Apparently, It s quite different for the white couple sitting at the next table though, he would walk up to them and ask warmly if food is okay, yet he s never come to me to check on things, not even once. He gives out this you can t enjoy French food because you re Asian vibe. Used to love this place, now I think I won t ever come back here.

Apparently the owner of the establishment does not care much about its clientele as he refused to lower the volume of the music that was playing extremely loud. This place has a lot to learn about respect.
As far as food is concerned, it was way too salty. I would not recommend this French restaurant. There are plenty of alternatives within a walking distance.

The restaurant was very quaint. I went for appetizers, desserts and drinks and all the food delicious. The manager was very friendly and accommodating, but our original waitress was not very friendly and looked bothered by the fact that we were seated in her section. She ended up leaving after taking our appetizer order and the manager ended up waiting on is which was fine with us. I definitely would go back but try not to be seated with with this woman.
