LaFASA: Ending Sexual Violence through Advocacy and Support
LaFASA is a private nonprofit coalition that was founded in 1982 with the aim of providing support to advocates, victims, and survivors of sexual assault. The organization comprises 13 sexual assault crisis centers, as well as other agencies and individuals who are concerned about sexual violence. LaFASA's mission is to end sexual violence by bringing about changes in our institutions, laws, policies, attitudes, and beliefs.
Sexual violence affects women, children, and men of all ages, races, income levels, lifestyles and geographic areas. It is a pervasive problem that has far-reaching consequences for individuals as well as society at large. LaFASA recognizes the importance of addressing this issue comprehensively by providing support services to survivors while also advocating for systemic change.
The organization's crisis centers offer a range of services including counseling for survivors of sexual assault and their families; medical advocacy; legal advocacy; community education programs; prevention initiatives; outreach efforts to underserved populations such as rural communities or immigrant groups.
LaFASA also works closely with policymakers at the local state level to advocate for laws that protect victims' rights while holding perpetrators accountable. The organization has been instrumental in passing legislation such as Louisiana's Crime Victims Bill of Rights which provides additional protections for victims during criminal proceedings.
In addition to its direct service work and advocacy efforts LaFASA also engages in research on issues related to sexual violence prevention intervention strategies best practices in victim services delivery models etcetera this research helps inform policy decisions made by lawmakers across the country.
One unique aspect of LaFASA's work is its focus on engaging men in ending sexual violence. The organization recognizes that men have an important role to play in preventing rape culture from perpetuating itself within our society. To this end they have developed programs specifically designed for male allies who want to learn how they can help prevent rape culture from taking root within their communities.
Overall Lafasa is an essential resource for anyone affected by or concerned about sexual violence whether you are a survivor looking for support or someone who wants to get involved with ending this pervasive problem Lafasa has something valuable offer you!
