Homey, neighborhood French bistro. This place makes you feel like you're eating at someone's home. Warm and friendly staff, delicious soups, salads, meats, mussels, and let's not forget the fries! Can't wait to go back for dinner!

Cute interiors, decent prices. The salmon eggs benedict was a bit rich, but nicely balanced with the side salad. The complimentary muffins are to die for.
My sister hosted a rehearsal dinner here for ~30-35 family and friends. I liked the menu they'd organized, looked tasty, but I thought the food was just so-so. I would have opted for the fish over the coq au vin, and would have totally skipped the tart -- the crust was so hard, I ended up just scooping out the filling.
Excellent French restaurant, with "real" French specialities (it really tastes like France made), the best mussels and fries I ever had, I could have drunk all the white wine sauce! French fries really delicious.
Good quality food. The Prix fixed menu is definitely a bargain. And in the warmer months and fall U can sit outside in NYC

My gf and I came here for Valentines day. We ordered off of their normal menu: charcuterie to start, my gf got the gnocchi, and i'm pretty sure i got the pork tenderloin for the main course, and for desert we got some sort of creme puff ice cream concoction. and a couple glasses of wine... of course.
So ignorantly, we thought charcuterie was a meat and cheese plate... we were wrong :) so when the plate of meats arrived we were a little sad but we carried on sampling each of them. we liked a couple of them but our pallets really aren't attuned for such things. We did very much so enjoy the bread though!
on to the main course... it was fantastic! the meat was cooked to perfection, the sauce in combination with the vegetables and potatoes was delicious. The gnocchi was also really good - very well cooked and the cream sauce was good. Unfortunately my gf overlooked that it was in a cream sauce, which she isn't fond of, so she dug into my dinner.
The dessert was the perfect ending to the night, really wish i could remember the name of what we ordered, but it was really good! On top of the food being great, the wine we had was quite good and they even gave us a complimentary glass each for V-day!
Kudos to La Mangeoire for running a good shop with great food, service, and ambiance. I would give it a 4.5 stars if i could!
April 7, 2018: As I planned at the end of my last review, below, 3 months ago, I have returned. It has remained very good, the service and the welcome too. Hopefully, they will soon bring back the phenomenal lamb chops on the menu.
December 2017: This Old Classic Has a Welcome New Twist:
La Mangeoire has been around for 45 years and I have known it for 35. It always was mostly good, sort of, but had started to slip and my last visits were disappointing. That has now stopped. Gary is the new host, originally from London but with a good experience of the New York restaurant life, and he sees to it that the place reacquires it former luster and more: A well stocked bar has been built in the first room and, unlike so many others, it is a comfortable place where to eat and drink. The whole place has been cleaned, the tables are less cluttered and the service has improved. It is now downright pleasant, smiling and with a genuine interest for the diners' well being.
As Mc Arthur said when he left the Philippines under enemy fire, "I shall return".
