was there for an indian carnatic chorus, very impressive
I've only seen three performances here so far, and they had more differentiating them than tying them together, but some generalizations can be made. The productions here won't necessarily be the most professional, but tend to be something different, a bit off the beaten path. Always worth looking into, but at this price point, don't expect the Metropolitan Opera.
Some of my favorite moments happened here what else can I say. LA MAMA is where it is at. If you want different this is where you come!
Their food selection was sufficient! The mic ed piano sounded good too!
One of a kind historic venue, cannot count how many times I have been there over the past two centuries, but never a bad time. (Sometimes questionable art, but never dull, and always thought-provoking...)
Native American indian Market. Grate Event
Dancing &Shopping &Food
Cool space! Held an art exhibition here, and I liked the basement art space :)
Good venue, all seats are good and the sound is fine too.
Performances can be hit or miss, but this is a part of the beauty. Intimate setting and some rare amazing gems from all over the world.
Like any experimental company, the interpretations are hit or miss: some shows are exquisite others are more noise than substance. That said, in the world of safe, consumer focused Broadway theater, it is nice to have a place that is experimenting and trying to think outside of the box.
Great place to check out if you're in the mood for something a little off the beaten path, they support local artists and new works.
Went there with my girlfriend for "Mr. Irresistible" and we will definitely come back again to see something else. Since we are students we paid only $13 per ticket. The show was awesome!!! Everything was nice!!! Go there!!! ;-)
La Mama is a great place to go if you enjoy experimental theater. I've a couple times and their performances are always deeply emotional and honest. The box office staff is very attentive and nice.
Dramatic Acting in the Play Don't Feed The Indians. This theatrical masterpiece will make you laugh, it will make you cry and it will have you thinking long after the curtains are drawn. Walking into La Mama I had no idea what to expect! One things for certain I did not expect my breath to be taken away. It was been a week since I have seen this one of a kind play and I am still speechless! Education! Emotional! Heart Wrenching! During my stay in New York I saw countless amounts of shows on and off Broadway. Out of all the shows this is the only one I cant stop thinking about! If given the chance to see this play again and again I would be the first in line every time!
Stay weird New York, go to La Mama. Never a disappointment.
Not a bad seat in the house. Essential downtown theater.
Warm, welcoming, experience. Excellent performance of "Shell shocked nut". Loved it!
Is a very nice theatther- you feel like home here- People are very friendly. I srongly recommend it.
Fantastic show "Trojan women" directed by Andrei Serban. After 30 years still fresh and fascinating.
I saw an amazing show here. The atmosphere was wonderful, and I can't wait to go back.
Fifty five year old cozy bare bones theatre where you can catch some interesting performances.
Neat place to see an indie show. Folding metal chairs are very uncomfortable are 30 minutes. Bathrooms are below average. Still an interesting old building. Just okay.
The show was terrible, wish they told me how long the show was going to be. Had a bored mind and sore butt by the end of it
Performing here was a moment to remember... To legacies coming together during #TonyAwards weekend
Leading edge theater. Daring productions in intimate spaces. Supports young talent. Has a soul .
Great theater space with various performances. Chairs are a little uncomfortable if you are sitting for too long. The space is easy to get to with elevator access.
Will never forget the show I saw here. Truly breathtaking and emotionally freeing. What a company. This is a MUST.
I have had the pleasure of attending and participating in productions at La Mama for several years now and the spirit of this place is amazing. There is always something great to enjoy on their schedule.
Seriously? Still one of the best places to see new cutting edge performance.
It is a small theater with good plays from all around the world.
Very cool spot where you can see a ton of different performances, all very cool and new.
Beautiful Off Broadway Theater and Artistic Director is very talented, Sexy and Beautiful! Smart, too. We will never be disappointed by the program!
La Mama is a must see in NYC. If you want a unique, thought-provoking experience, go see whatever's happening here.
This is a landmark OOB theater that came out of the slums of the 1970's East Village and really made a name for itself thanks to its founder Ellen Stewart. It was a great vehicle for young, struggling local performance artists some of whom have become very successful, actors, playwrights, etc.
Very fun, great bargain. I highly recommend this theater experience!
JAZZMUS: A Conscious Collective Caberet- performance by Verna Hampton featuring Levern "The Entertainer" Williams. Gary Schreiner on keyboards and Jim Mussen on drums. Part of the Poetry Electric series black history month celebration. Works included Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington and Billy Holliday.
Great small theater
Life opinion of two dogs
Saw a remarkable mixed media performance delivered with aplomb
Ellen Stewart's theater complex continues to provide amazing new work from the US and abroad.
Best small theater in Manhattan ! You also get to visit and explore The East Village that is disappearing at an alarming pace due to greedy developers and landlords. Get there before it's all gone !!
Amazing theater for new productions. Perfectly sized. Simple and effective.
Fantastic venue, amazing work. The only downside is the WORST house manager I ve ever had the displeasure to meet. Red haired older woman. She yelled at patrons, said condescending things to the orchestra, and generally just made herself problematic in any and every way she possibly could. Tragic that such an amazing venue has such a terrible employee...
I saw 13 fruitcakes here and it was probably the BEST performance I have ever seen. The columbian snack foods there are delicious and homemade! If you like experimental theater then this is a place you absolutely have to catch a show at.
Venerable avante garde institution showing compelling works all year round
I recommend this place because the people are very nice and the service is great, plus they have amazing shows and activities for adults and children.
