Had a wonderful meal. A lovely place for a lovely rustic French meal. No pretentious, ultra fancy, shirt and tie kind of place. This place is like dining with friends. Staff was very pleasant and the food was phenomenal. Linda was our server for the evening and she couldn't have been any nicer - an absolutely gem.

Disappointed. Have been coming here over 25 years. Never a bad meal or bad service. Today was a off day. The service was just ok. Mind you it was packed on a Saturday night. Soup was yummy and so was the salad. But the entrees were a disaster. The $48 rack of lamb was way overcooked. No pink just grey chewy overcooked meat. The $42 beef wellington was cooked medium well, unacceptable for this dish. Soggy crust, lackluster sauce. Everyone's vegetables was cooked to mush. The roasted duck was dry and bland, served with a flavorless orange sauce. The treat of the day that we all dreamed about was the Grand Marnier souffles. They came out late but were way way under done. Barely had any body to it. The server just overstuffed it with custard filling not the usual creme anglace served with it. We will be back though, maybe on a weekday instead.

If you are looking for authentic French cuisine then this is NOT the place.... noisy noisy noisy and cramped - patronized by uncouth, socially unrefined, loud mouthed illegal borrachos and other locals who clearly have zero exposure to true authentic regional cuisine - Far too expensive for what amounts essentially to cafeteria food desperately struggling to create a facade of fine food. La Gare certainly must be French for "The Garbage" - better off avoiding the "podunk" "jerk-water" towns surrounding San Francisco - this place would be laughable if it were not SO offensive.

Its the whole experience, starting with an amazing staff. Everyone is friendly and there to make sure you have a great meal. The food is exquisitely prepared. Very traditional French. Not overseasoned. But not under either. The mushrooms bisque we had was stellar. My husband doesn't like mushrooms and was nearly licking the bowl. The salad was light and refreshing. The meals were fabulous.

Can't believe they were operating at 100% of capacity for indoor dining contrary to health department orders when we had dinner there Saturday 5/22/21. It was packed to the gills, with no distancing whatsoever. If I wasn't fully vaccinated I would have walked out. Food was good, but the service was terrible due to
overbooking. We waited 35 mins past our reservation time to be seated, then almost another hour for an appetizer. Poor wait staff was scrambling to keep up. If you go be sure to request outdoor seating if they're still not following the 50% order, and don't go during dinner rush.
