I am not really a fan of opera or ballet but I went for the experience. I really liked it, the seats I was in were fine for watching the ballet and not expensive. On the other hand, I don't know enough about ballet to judge that.

Who can dislike to dress up and go to the opera. One of few places I can wear my penguin tail and feel good about it. :) Quite nice though not very large opera house, the opera and operetteos tend to be very good productions with very high class orchestra and singers. Give yourself and evening out with class!

A must if you are a romantic! The best place is up in the middle of the 3rd row. Lower or upper. There you have the best sound and see everything that happens on stage. Pre-order something good for the break so you don't have to queue!
You can also take a walk around the opera on Saturdays and see how it looks behind the scenes.

Take some champagne at the break on the terrace. Book it before the performance starts and you get your pwn reserved table served when you arrive.

Loved this place. So grand and opulent as a building and yet the patrons on the night we attended, despite mostly being dressed up for the occasion, did not make us feel under dressed (as we were, since we were tourists) as other places have done.

Time for new opera house! Modern, new-looking beliefs in the grand, dusty, pretentious environment, I find directly contradictory. No charming mix. Add to that the sitting comfort is miserable. Football hooligans are royal in their arenas. By comparison.

About Kungliga Operan, The Royal Swedish opera House

Kungliga Operan, The Royal Swedish Opera House, is a world-renowned institution that has been entertaining audiences for over 240 years. Located in Stockholm, Sweden, the opera house is not only home to the Royal Swedish Opera but also to the Royal Swedish Ballet, Young at the Opera program, and the Royal Swedish Orchestra. Together they create unforgettable experiences for adults, children and families alike.

The history of Kungliga Operan dates back to 1773 when King Gustav III founded it as a way to bring culture and entertainment to his people. Since then it has become one of Europe's most prestigious opera houses with a rich history of performances by some of the world's greatest artists.

Today Kungliga Operan continues its tradition of excellence by presenting an array of operas and ballets throughout its season. From classic works like Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" and Verdi's "La Traviata" to contemporary pieces like Philip Glass' "Satyagraha," there is something for everyone at this iconic venue.

In addition to its mainstage productions, Kungliga Operan offers educational programs through its Young at the Opera initiative. This program provides opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to experience opera firsthand through workshops and performances designed specifically for them.

Another unique aspect of Kungliga Operan is its commitment to sustainability. The opera house has implemented several initiatives aimed at reducing their environmental impact including using renewable energy sources such as wind power and geothermal heating/cooling systems.

But what truly sets Kungliga Operan apart from other opera houses around the world is its stunning architecture. Designed by architect Axel Anderberg in 1898-1905 in neo-classical style with Art Nouveau elements on top floor balconies; it features grand staircases leading up into ornate foyers adorned with crystal chandeliers that lead into opulent auditoriums filled with plush red velvet seats.

Overall, Kungliga Operan offers an unparalleled cultural experience that combines history, artistry and innovation all under one roof. Whether you are a seasoned opera-goer or someone looking for a new cultural adventure - this iconic institution should be on your must-visit list when traveling through Stockholm!
