My son has attended KIPP since the 5th grade. With the exception of 9th and 10th. I pulled my son out for two years because he is an art-minded student - KIPP did not have any outlet for him other than sports and their art program was poorly supported. I moved him to an art-based charter school where two of my three older children did very well and one even graduated with honors; the program was superb. By the time my son arrived at HS level, the leadership changed, [art] teachers were seeking better opportunities and things were very different. He became bored and was not learning anything. I decided to return him to UPrep for his last two years because the rigor was more important than the art...preparation for college was more important. I do not recommend anyone to place their child in KIPP unless you start from the beginning; it's a culture that has to be re-learned. Coming from SAISD to KIPP is a culture-shock. Even as a parent, at first, I was a little defiant. But after a couple of months, I realized they were reinforcing what we always believed in: integrity, pride in himself and respect for all. For some, that isn't always taught at home. Communication is huge; do not lose touch. That can make your experience at KIPP very difficult. In all honesty, I can finally say there is a choice in SA: keep up the great work KIPP.

I am currently a senior at KIPP UPREP. Reviews made by a previous student is not a review you should take literally. I have been at this school since 5th grade, with the exception of leaving my freshman year to try something new. When I left the school, I had not received the care, or even teaching styles, that ONLY this school brings. Yes, it has created a new IB program for every junior and senior to take full advantage of, but yes, it is extremely rigorous. Standing with an non- weighted 4.0 GPA, I realize the difficulty of this program, but also the support I, and all the other students, receive by teachers and administration to make this challenge a little easier for us. They are ALWAYS asking for student's feedback to create better and more effective classes. They care, and if you are apart of SAISD, you will not get this same care, and community feeling that KIPP brings. *If you advocate for yourself, they will advocate for you.* There are many great opportunities the school offers you, you just need to ask.
If your child has been in apart of IB, has barely begun the journey, or is going to in the next few years, just know this: yes they will complain about the workload, a lot (I know this because I do it too), but it is worth it. All the papers you have to write, readings you have received, every set of notes you have to take, is worth it. I just came from a college program at one of the best liberal arts colleges in the USA, and I received honors, and I owe it all to the school that has taught be how to study and balance my schedule.
A friend of mine just got accepted to Penn State already. That is one of the best colleges a student thus far has been accepted to; and this is barely beginning.
KIPP is doing great things, and I only put 4 stars because I know we can only make it better.
Two of my children graduated from KIPP and have attended KIPP schools since they opened their doors in San Antonio at the original KIPP on Fredericksburg Road. We moved and we now live in Denver Colorado and my kids attend KIPP Colorado. It's the best education out there, charter schools are the way to go. Yes it is a hard curriculum definitely not for those who are not going to be dedicated in school. If u want a school that's easy go to public school this isn't for kids who are lazy or undisciplined. I know it sounds mean but it's life y'all. My kids made it no excuses
This school is way different than any other school in San Antonio. Yes , it may be helpful for wanting to achieve success as in making it to college. However , this school doesn t teach its students how to make it through college. I was a junior here last year. But I left because IB is not only a program , but a source in which gives their students a high amount of stress and a feeling of failure. The principal s here say IB will help you entirely by making it to college. But they are not providing their student s thoughts on what they feel about the program. Everyone hates it. Not only does it stress you out, but also takes away majority of your free time. Especially on breaks such as Winter, Spring , Summer Break...etc. So yeah parents think twice and ask your student if they enjoy Kipp. Plus the food is very unpleasant.
I dont really like it my son is performing very low and the teachers man they are some ####### but yeah overall its a nice school yall should go there if you wanna go to harvard
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 15John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. 16And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. 17For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. 18No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. 19And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? 20And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. 21And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. 22Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? 23He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. 24And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. 25And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet? 26John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; 27He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. 28These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. 29The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 30This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. 31And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. 32And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. 33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. 34And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. 35Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; 36And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! 37And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? 39He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt,
i personally went to this school. This school is horrible. They rather see their own student fail, rather than saying they were wrong for applying IB material to the jr class. This school doesn't keep track of anything. i've been in the school for going on 7 years now and not until this year it was a good school. This school tells us if we don't like being apart of the IB material, that we should just leave. They will do anything in their power to make it seem like a perfect school but its not. The kids their hate it, the only reason they stay is because they don't have a choice. not because its a good school. many kids are to afraid to say anything here but i'm not. so before you decide to send your kids here just stop and think, because this school isn't what it used to be. To me this school deserves no stars at all. they say to and through college but they fail to mention that not every kid goes to college here. they lie and lie and lie just to get what they want. just trust me when i tell you, they honestly don't care about the kids here. once you turn anyway or leave your child isn't treated the same way. just please parents don't send you kids here.
the school doesn't really care for the student and don't help the student when they ask for it and the food is horrendous they don't care what they are feeding the kids
