Beautiful landscapes, crystal clear waters, great off site camping.
Back country camping, canoeing and sketching with friends was a good time. The park is slowly repairing from damage caused by the nickel mining and refining in Sudbury which caused so much human suffering.
The recuperation of the land and lakes would probably go quicker if the beaver were allowed to return without illegal poaching by nearby towns folks and over zealous culling by park officials. The beaver could build up the loss of soil and retain more water and eventually provide ponds for moose, meadows for the missing rabbits, deer and a return of carnivores.
Regardless of the poor showing of animal life and illegal yet encouraged commercial looting of blue berries (a basic foodstuff for wildlife), the ancient La Cloche quartzite mountain range is spectacular yet, considering the bad management of public land... perhaps endangered too?
Regardless... a beautiful, damaged place, my favorite Ontario Provincial Park.
Probably the best Ontario PP. Amazing trails, several beaches and incredible landscapes.
Killarney is one of the most beautiful places we've ever gone camping. The only minus is going in June, early July you will be DEVOURED by mosquitoes, nets are a must. However we were told that they die out by late July/August so that might be a better time to visit. Stunning views.
Great national park with great canoeing opportunities
Had a really nice time. Plenty of nice hikes and trails to go on. The most notable for me being The Crack. It was very challenging but rewarding as the view you got to see when you reach the top is outstanding. Having gone twice now, my opinion does not change, would probably still go many more times.
It's a spectacularly beautiful place. Inspiration for the Group of 7.
One of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. FYI bring a bear spary, I am wirting this review while there is a bear chilling beside our tent :)
The crack trail, lumbsden lake, bells lake over too silver peak trail threw the bush.. No trail
This is my favorite park so far in Ontario. It's absolutely gorgeous and had a number of fantastic hiking trails and views for great pictures. It is a fair distance away from civilization and feels wild in a way only Algonquin had for me previously. The trails range from fairly easy short trails to 100km backpacking challenges with a number of options available for those visiting for a day on the shorter side. All the trails I hiked were well marked and had numbers to match historical or geographical notes in the guides sold in the park store. Despite visiting for four days I felt like there was a ton of trails and parts of the park I hadn't explored that would warrant visiting a number of times in the future. If you have the chance this is certainly a park to see.
It's a beautiful park, the crack was more difficult than I thought it was going to be but very much worth the hike! The beach view was amazing. The camp site we choose was cramped and not very private at all, we could see everything our neighbor campers were doing.
Amazing Provincial Park. All the employees were very friendly. The beaches were all clean.
Beautiful hike, the trail begins as a hike and then involves a lil trekking to the view point. Thoroughly enjoyed it !
One the the most beautiful provincial parks on Ontario and a relatively good location for darksky lovers. We were lucky enough to see the northern lights during our stay in late May. Campsites closer to the lake have the best views but be aware of black flies especially in the spring.
The park is well managed and has all the necessary amenities. Washrooms are clean and there are plenty of showers. I'd recommend going for one of the hiking trails as well as trying canoeing/kayaking.
Outstanding trails. Well managed. Natural beauty.
This is my favorite park in Ontario...I make a point of backcountry camping along the La Cloche trail every year. This past June, my wife and tackled the whole 80km trail. Very strenuous, and difficult in some areas but very worth it. After every grueling climb up, we were presented with a breath taking view, which made every ache, pain and blister worth it. I will be back again next summer again to do it all over again. The park itself is amazing and offers trails for every range of physical ability. As well as canoeing/kayaking which we have also do there, which get you to different parts not accessible by foot.
Great spot to camp with the family. Excellent technical trails with awesome views. No hydro, so be prepared to camp without it. Small campground, with mostly smaller sites, but still some big enough for trailers.
Stunning place to experience the best of Canada s nature. I would advise not visiting in July - the black flies are real.
Perfect park. Great trails and road. Must go and have fish and chip in the town too!
Clean park, clean water, enjoy conoe. Clean washroom
If your looking for a hike, check out the crack! I only came for the crack and it was nice view at the time. Would come again during fall
Amazing hike, spectacular view and very fun to hike with others
Just beautiful, stunning landscapes and quiet wilderness! Backcountry camping and canoeing was amazing. We saw moose and Ontario wildlife. It's a great escape from the business of the big cities. Just a recommendation: you should may be a bit more experienced to do camping and canoeing at this park as some of the portaging routes can be though.
One of the best park. Amazing Trails especially The Crack and active Wildlife.
Don't miss The Crack (Spectacular View). It is almost Hard but it is worth seeing it.
Best location for a long drive and small hike. Awesome climate. Clean place. Amazing fish nd chips places. Must visit the light house
A pristine park and trails "The crack" trail is a mild difficulty hike with fantastic views, botany and wildlife. My group spent about 4 hours exploring here.
The yurts and facilities for camping were even better than expected.
This provincial park is located on a channel of lake George and has clear high ph water over granite rocks. This was our 3rd family camping trip and we can't wait to go back next year!
Beautiful park. I go there for a day use. They have several hiking trail with moderate to hard level. The best is The Crack trail. But the other trails also nice. Just a reminder : the hiking trail is quite difficult for the beginner, you have to be quite fit. There's a park store that sells accessories and gimmicks. They also have a vending machine and washroom near the park store. The water is very clean that you can see through the bottom.
Radio Free zone is amazing. Fantastic trails and friendly folk everywhere. The washrooms are clean. Campsites mostly have limited privacy but a few are gems.
It is a beautiful place but make sure to bring bug sprays as there are a lot of mosquitoes and bugs in the area. The hike at The Crack is challenging.
I stayed here for the first time in ages, on Sheguiandah Lake. We got to the campsite early in the afternoon and set up hammocks. The location was...well, perfect. The thing with this park is that the vistas are almost fantastical. Imagine a single placid lake, as silent as nature permits, with a common but striking cliffscape across from your campsite that shifts brightness with the clouds. This is the best place to meditate on our place in the cosmos and reflect on our silly anxieties.
The hike in to our site took 20 mins, and was (for the unexperieced tripper) appalling at a times. But even these winding ways and small climbs were majestic in their own right. This is the essence of northern Ontario, and it's about time I made more use of the place. I curse myself for not staying in good enough shape for longer tripping. That's something I shall have to remedy.
I tip my hat to you, Earth. You've really earned your status as one of the most precious places in the cosmos.
Great park, facilities were clean, staff were friendly. Above average Ontario Parks experiance.
The best park in Ontario I've been in. Love this place.
Crown Jewel of the Ontario Park System. Simply Beautiful
This park offers calling for people with all levels of experience. The scenery is second to none. I would rate Killarney better than Algonquin thanks to the breathtaking views and tranquility. It's nice to feel like you have an entire lake to yourself rather than always being aware of the other 20 campsites around you.
An absolutely spectacular experience!!! The quartzite rock, the backcountry grandeur, the clear water... my favourite portaging park hands down. Be sure to hike silver peak...leave a full day for that! You ll be glad you did! So beautiful!
So much to do. Well worth the ride for a weekend camping trip. Watch out for raccoons! Only over or two has gas stations nearby, so fill up.
If you're looking for a great challenging hike this is a great place. It's awesome during fall season. Beautiful views.
It is a beautiful park. Even as cold as it was when we were there.
Love how many trails there are and had a great time! Used campsite in the 20's it was well away from everyone else. Saw a beaver while canoeing! Everyone was very dog friendly and that made it an easier and comfy place to be. Great customer service, and they have hot showers! Can't wait to go back again. Only thing that wasn't so nice is all the rocks made it hard to peg the tent down
I have been coming to Killarney since before I could walk. It is one of the most incredible little places to go to in Canada, little own Ontario. The Georgian Bay inlet allows for great fishing trips, as well as be surrounded by many lakes with an incredible hiking and portaging environment. Silver Peak is a (sometimes challenging) day long portage journey, with a view worth waiting for. The people of Killarney are friendly and inviting in all corners of the quaint 500 person town. The best fish and chips money can buy, partnered with Farquars ice cream for dessert, Killarney is a stunning getaway.
My favorite place in Ontario without rival. Breathtaking views. Nothing like a morning coffee on pink granite viewing majestic quartz ridges.
Hike the crack !!! Great views...dont forget your camera !!!
Stunning. An absolute gem. The photo below was taken at the portage between George and Freeland Lake. All Canadians must go at least once in their life.
Beautiful hike. Great for hiking. Did a 2 hour hike here. It was great. There's longer hikes available. Look into their website for more details
We only came for the day but will definitely try and reserve a site for camping next year! Truly one of the most beautiful places we ve seen in Ontario and there s so much more of the park we haven t even seen!
We rented a canoe with Killarney Outfitters and our canoe was ready for us at the beach at George Lake. We portaged over to another lake and back in the same day since it was not a long trek. The scenery from the boat was incomparable. The best part of the day was pulling up the canoe to private areas around the lake and swimming off the rocks! Highly recommend this park as I couldn t be more impressed.
Beautiful, well kept park. Amazing hikes from moderate to difficult to choose from.
Favorite back country park in Ontario! Nothing beats it.
We just went to hike along a trail. We didn't camp. Parking for the day was 15$. We took the shortest hike,
Granite Ridge, posted as mild - moderate, with some steep parts. It was posted at 1 and a half to 2 hours. It was beautiful.
The trails take a lot longer than the posted time, so add at least a quarter of the time unless you want to just hoof it and not stop to enjoy the beauty. If you take a trail book and stop to read about each spot along the trail, then double the posted trail time. Hugh variety of nature along the paths.
The steep part of the trail was basically rock climbing. It was a bit difficult in some spots and this was the shortest and easiest of the trails.
So worth it though. The Canadian North is gorgeous.
The hwy to get there off hwy 69 was VERY long. At least an hour of tree lined hwy.
My favorite place to Backcountry camp in Ontario so far. Rugged and beautiful.
Beautiful park and a great place to set off kayaking, canoeing or hikes.
Awesome Provincial park. My family and I drove from Hunstville up to Killarney and this park does not dissapoint. Although we were only here for around 2 hours the views never dissapointed. For sure going back to try out their 2 day durated trail.
It s a beautiful park, it s a shame the staff ruin it. We went to register Saturday morning, my wife decided to stay in the vehicle so there wouldn t be to many people in the building. The sign on the door clearly said maximum of 4 people inside at once. There is no way of telling how many people are in the office so I put on my mask and walked it. It might be a good idea for them to post someone outside to let people know how full the office is. I was the only customer in the building. I was surprised that NONE of the staff were wearing masks and the shields they had up had areas where there was nothing between the customer area and the staff area. I couldn t buy the map at the camp desk so I purchased a map from the friends of Killarney counter then walked to the camp counter to register. While I was buying the map a couple came in the store and was looking around. Another couple entered the building shortly after. There were now 5 customers in a area where there are only supposed to be 4, then another lady walked in and lined up. I figured she would ba asked to leave seeing as she was the 6th person in the store but the girl at the counter told me to get behind her and not to cut in the line. I explained that she was the 6th person in the store and she should maybe be asked to leave the they told me, the first person in the store, that I could leave if I felt uncomfortable. Another lady came from the back and proceeded to serve the 6th person. In my opinion the female employees were very sexist. I am almost sure things would have went differently if I (male) was the 6th person in the store and a female was the one complaining. I then asked to talk to a supervisor. He came from the back room to talk to me, he didn t have a mask on either. None of the employees wore masks and they were all standing right next to each other. At one point there were 10 people in the store front. I m not sure if anyone else was back in the office but I think that they were probably over the capacity for that office. The whole time we were talking they kept letting more people in the store and served them. If you care about your health and don t want to risk getting the covid, stay away from this place.
A beautiful, serene and quiet place to bring family or go with friends. The Crack trail was quiet challenging but worth it once you reach the top. Wasn't lucky with the fishing, but nonetheless would come back!
Place you need to visit. There are few day trails, but mostly you will need few days to get to some remote locations or use canoe to see emerald lakes and most breathtaking views.
You start from main park entrance, need parking permit. Cranberry Bog day trail starts from George Lake, i went opposite way, as it goes straight to few majestic views at A.Y. Jackson Lake and peaks around. There is an trail to left, no loop, about 05 mile, going to George Lake and another amazing view.
When visiting this park, we did the hike to the crack (6 km - 4 hours). When doing this hike, prepare yourself with decent hike boots, because you are going to climb rocks. The view at the top of the mountain is incredible. Also make sure you bring something to eat but make sure to Bring Back all your garbage. No bins at the parking at the beginning (and end) of the Trail is a minor, because ignorant People throw their Trash on the ground.
I would go back in a heart beat. Do yourself a favour and rent a canoe/kayak and do a portage or two. The rock faces are breath taking. Also, go to the crack!
Beautiful park! Great for camping, hiking, paddling and picking wild blueberries along the trail.
This Park Is Amazing!!! Very unique landscape. The hiking trails spectacular. A really nice dog beach. Worth the drive.
The hike was pretty intense, well for me maybe but this place is truly beautiful. If you haven't gone you have to at least visit once! You won't regret it!
We did the la cloche trail over 5 days and it was amazing!
While our family of 4 really enjoy car camping and the camp site time cooking and sitting around the fire, we are often a bit bored at many Ontario Parks. The hikes are often roads through the woods and the views nice, but overall it is less than exciting. Killarney has great trails where you can choose your level (not all roads ... there are steeper trails with rocks to climb over), the views are pretty spectacular and the canoeing or kayaking is similar. The campsite we had was private, level, had a good firepit, 2 good picnic tables and was only rated average. Worth the drive.
Always great we come every year. This is the first time in winter and it looks quite different. Tomorrow will be the big hiking day. In winter parking is at the main gate all hiking from there. Yurts and cabins fully occupied. Some trails are groomed so hiking and snowshoeing to the side. We are staying at Sportsman's Inn in Killarney, our room is really nice.
Many great views, commodities like washing machines and LTE in park by bell. Fido and Rogers work there. Lots of wild life and places to jump off into the water.
The comfort station is very filthy. Not sure how often they are cleaned out but I doubt once a day. The camp sites is nice (we're by the lake) so happy about that.
The lacloche-silouette trail is well worth the visit if you are interested in backcountry hiking. Lots of great views.
