The food was delicious but definitely not worth the price. Especially since the service was not exceptional. Overall an alright experience, but I would definitely not go back. I really prefer Eddie Merlots over this restaurant because it similar in price but has a lot better service and atmosphere for the most part.

Wonderful service, great menu options and beautiful presentation. I think we tried just about everything on the menu and it was all better than expected. Would definitely recommend for a date night or evening with friends.

Many may not know but this business hosts weddings at their farm. It is absolutely beautiful! I don t regret having our wedding here, we have beautiful pictures and memories made with friends and family BUT the event was poorly and most unprofessionally handled. I will try not to dive into great detail but for starters there were specifics that were discussed multiple times while planning the wedding that did not go as planned. completely dropped the ball. The staff were very unprofessional by arguing with myself as the bride in front of the guest . I learned that if I were to do things over, make sure to get bill of event before so that there are no misunderstandings in the end. Lesson learned. we ended up getting the invoice that was not itemized to show what we are actually paying for. And charged tax on labor which, if I m not mistaken, is illegal in Indiana. I thought to myself.. Ok, fine. I ll just ask for the invoice to Be itemized or show what we are being charged for. Easy enough! I thought it would not be too much to ask for. Long story short after emailing and asking to meet to discuss the invoice, I was denied and became an inconvenience. It became an inconvenience to give me an itemized invoice for the charges of the wedding and was just offered money off as a discount on our bill as a pacifier. To be fair, I refused the discount of course and was ready to pay the full price once I received an invoice. I asked for an itemized invoice MULTIPLE times over the course of months and never received one. With asking for something so simple as an itemized invoice from such a reputable business, I started to question the integrity. It s a small town and I started to hear that as I dealt with this, I was not the only one. With all said and done... such a beautiful venue for a wedding and reception at the farmstead but such a Unprofessional and poorly managed business. What a shame.

The food is amazing! We ordered the wagyu beef and the duck for our entree. We also ordered the tartare apptitizer and the gumbo soup. The beef and the duck are so tender that they melt when you chew it. The atmosphere was peaceful and the food is out of this world. This place is definitely worth a try and it's better compared to Eddie Merlot.

My husband and I went here for Valentine's Day (the weekend after) and were very happy with our experience. The food was very good for the price (I really don't think paying $35 for Scallops is at all overpriced, although anyone can cook a great steak at home--so I would go for the less common dishes to make the food seem worth the money). Our starters (gumbo and sauteed radishes) were also very good and well priced at $8 each. Dessert (jasmine rice brulee) was warm, comforting, unique, and well priced at $8. We did not try the wine list or coffee, although they have a great selection of wines and a full bar. The atmosphere is nice with dim lighting, candles on each table, and warm decor. I do not personally care for the art that is shown in the restaurant, but that is more a matter of taste than of ambiance--I did not find that the paintings detracted from the overall experience. We felt that the staff was cordial and polite, but it seems like they are generally accustomed to dealing with uppity clientele that dismiss/ignore them--they do not elaborate without being asked to do so--I am impressed, however, that our water glasses were never empty and everyone around us seemed well attended to. It did take us about 30 minutes to receive our appetizers, and over an hour to receive our main dish--but to me this is acceptable on a busy weekend night. I am looking forward to returning in the spring and perhaps sitting in the conservatory room or outside on their patio--we will certainly be back, although only for special occasions, or when we want very unique dishes without driving 3 hours to Chicago or 1.5 hours to Indianapolis. The town of Roanoke is also quite cute, and I look forward to returning when it is warmer and my husband and I can explore a bit more. Overall, a very lovely evening in a very nice restaurant. Just make sure you check the menu for pricing before you go so you can plan for the costs. Also, there is a dress code (collared shirts and slacks for men, skirts or dress pants for ladies--which I personally like).

Fantastically fresh and delicious cuisine, and a quaint setting. They're a fair ways from Indy, but worth the trip. Their beef is obviously their crown jewel, and you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't get a steak.

SO SORRY TO NEYSAYERS. Yes, so sorry to contradict the one naysayer review as follows:
The best food I have had in North America, outside of New Orleans LA, is at J. Decuis. Credentials: I am a well traveled foodie. In full disclosure I know none of the staff nor management nor owners .....this is my first Google review for anything, and did so as I thought one of the comments was most unfair and ungenerous. Credentials: former head liaison engineer (with a open budget for dinner entertainments for Fortune 1000 Clients). I have travelled all over France, Germany, UK and USA; and feel sorry for the poor soul whose palette is so under-developed that he somehow finds better food in Chicago. OK, downtown Chicago's Suntory: great for Japanese; Berghoffs for German and if QUANTITY is your yardstick to judge steak, then Chicago is Heaven because their famous landmark establishment at Rush St is renouned for 48 ounce steaks; NOT FOR ME, thank you. Go to Roanoke, NO NEED for air tickets to Rambouillet, Rennes or New Orleans. Lars at Howe, Indiana

Went last night to celebrate our 13 year anniversary. We have gone many time for this very special occasion but have not been there in several years. We wanted that nice quiet romantic atmosphere that the conservatory room has after dark as this was the room we first ate in. Well we got there and were seated in a beautiful location just as our server was trying to tell us about the specials the table next to us got so loud that we could not hear her at all. We asked to be moved to a quiet location as we were trying to have an enjoyable night. This place is the kind of place we go for a special occasion and is so posed to be up scale, although I wonder after last night. We were moved without problem into the lounge and were seated next to a another group of people that were just as loud if not more, That did not sit well as their topic of conversation was about the selection of sex toys they all owned. The lounge had hardly any air conditioning I sat fanning myself all night and smelled musty. No one asked if I was warm or sorry for the air temp in this room . They ignored the fact people were roasting in there. The dishes were chipped and the gold trim on the plated were flaking off. I would think when people spend well over $100 there they would replace their plates. As people stated the art work is not very appealing to look at in the lounge, but the conservatory is so pretty. We are very aware of the prices but $93 for a steak and its just the steak, I don't think so. I got the mushroom ravioli and my husband got the sole. I use to get the sole every time I went there and it was fantastic and large, last night the pieces were the size of blue gills. My ravioli was a nice portion but I didn't care for it at all. I cannot stand cracked pepper and it was full of it. My husband loved mine though. I choked it down because of the price we paid and my husband didn't like his fish at all. Wish we would have traded dishes. lol The appetizer was wonderful it was a lobster dish. The bread was great as usual and the staff were absent. No one asked us if our meal was good or asked the people in either room to try to be a little softer spoken. It is so posed to be SO up scale that they would have asked people to keep it at a reasonable volume. Last time I was there everyone was dressed so nice last night there were many people in jeans and T shirts. When we left as I stated no one asked how our meal was and we walked past the owner who heard me say I was not happy with our experience and she looked at us and said have a great night instead of asking what had happened. We felt as if she was saying thanks for spending so much we have your money now I dont care how your experience was. I'm only giving it 2 stars because the food was good( No longer melt in your mouth fantastic) although we liked each others better but we will NOT be going back as we fell its slipping in quality over all. :( Very sad I was looking forward to going back for weeks. I use to recommend this to our friends as a quiet romantic little place with the most fabulous food you would ever eat. Not any longer.

2nd time here at the wonderful gem. From the moment we arrived the service was top notch. The chef came out as well go say hello. Came here with a few friends to celebrate a big bonus. We went all out. The best steakhouse in the America's IMO. We took a limo from Central Indy just to eat there. Will go again and again.

I don't know if perfection in a restaurant experie...

I don't know if perfection in a restaurant experience is possible. Everyone has different criteria to judge by. However, at this point in my life, Joseph Decuis provides as close to perfection as I have ever experienced to date!

I have eaten at Joseph Decuis nearly a dozen times since they opened in the early 2000's. I have seen this restaurant change in subtle ways from decor, menu changes, and slight renovations. In my opinion, the restaurant has shifted from a slight French dining experience to a more elegant American dining experience. This is by no means a negative connotation, but merely a personal point of note.

Onto the menu...

If you are a worldly foodie who has experienced many a fine cuisine across the globe, let Joseph Decuis be your American Benchmark for excellence. If you are not a globetrotter but a foodie seeking the most exquisite dining opportunities, Joseph Decuis will be a Paragon of fine dining opportunities. Please save for a truly special occasion and enjoy the Chef's Tasting with wine pairing.

Wagyu Beef! Joseph Decuis is the only farm-to-table restaurant in the state with a Wagyu Beef Farm just miles up the road from their restaurant (tours, over night stays, and dining opportunities available at the farm). If dining with a group, I highly recommend trying each available cut. If you really want to experiement, ask that your meal be served "Pete" style. It's not on the menu, but the servers will understand you.

The wine selection is quite varied. Multiple pages abound, and every budget can be accommodated with wines by the glass or bottle. My only negative critique here is that bottle prices seem to be on a 4:1 ratio and not a 3:1 for price. If you're dining here, this is probably going to be a null point for you. As someone who has worked the industry, I grin and grimace at the same time. This is definitely a custom wine menu and not a prepurchased wine program like many restaurants of today. Whether you can speak wine or not, they have a very helpful Sommelier to assist in your needs for a recommendation. My latest visit had me requesting a $100 or less bottle with New World tones on the lower sugar content side. The Sommelier nailed it! Don't be afraid to ask questions. They're service is very helpful and non-snooty. You truly feel like a guest of honor when you dine at Joseph Decuis.

If I could offer one suggestion that I would like to see in the future when dining here again, it would have to be a bone marrow small plate. I can only fantasize at what such a delicacy may taste like from Wagyu Beef.

I could pour on for an hour on all the things thjs restaurant gets right. I honestly do not wish to. I want my readers to experience this gem for themselves. I want you to come back and experience something new again... and again... and again! This review truly does not do the experience at Joseph Decuis justice. This is one place that really must be experienced. Please come and experience Joseph Decuis.

This is not fine dining. The food is over salted, over sauced and just isn't prepared in a way that justifies the price. I've been here four times and the same experience each time. Consistently underwhelming.

Great upscale place. Very elegant ambience. Food is awesome.
Wagyu is good but I don't think it justifies the price. Worth trying once though.
Before the steak comes they give you an option to pick the steak knife you want, all of which are hand made. Pretty cool.
Food is well prepared, well presented and tastes delicious.

Attended a wedding yesterday. I wouldn't recommend their catering. They took a head count for guests and still ran out of food. Their beef and salmon was under cooked. The chicken was dried out. They ran out of potatoes and mixed vegetables and skimpy on the salad.

Lovely ambience and wonderful food in historic downtown Roanoke, Indiana. It's the ultimate farm to fork cuisine as owners Pete and Alice Eshelman raise Wagyu beef, heritage chickens and lots of the veggies served there. Part of the restaurant is in a former bank and the vault now serves as their wine cellar.

I had heard tales far and wide of how great Joseph...

I had heard tales far and wide of how great Joseph Decuis is but had never ventured to go see. Last weekend was my wife's birthday and she wanted to try Decuis' Burgers and Blue Jeans. This is a Friday night thing in the courtyard where they cook "gourmet burgers" for a fraction of the typical meal at Decuis. It totals around $11 for a burger, $4 for a basket of fries, etc.

First time we went, on my wife's birthday, we all had burgers and a basket of fries and my wife and one of my sons had the soup too. The fries were generic, frozen fries you can get anywhere. I was shocked they were not fresh cut. Moving on, the burgers were juicy; so juicy that we noticed they were pretty well under cooked. Not pink but bordering on red. The taste was amazing but I was disconcerted by the redness. The soup was not hot; at all. The salads with the burgers were very small but were amazing tasting. Fresh ingredients but again very little of it. They close the meal by giving cookies that are very good in and of themselves. This is a nice touch.

Due to their reputation I figured this experience was an aberration so we attended again the next Friday, on 5-15-15. My wife and kids again ordered the fries while joking that they are not fresh. We also ordered burgers and I ordered the 1/4 chicken. The fries never did show up. When I asked the waitress to check on tehm she said, "they should be out soon because they are cooked separately over there......" whatever that means. Our meals arrived. The burgers were all now overcooked, pretty dramatically. Dry and tasteless. The vegetable medley with them was very good but small. I ordered the chicken. It was VERY dry and thoroughly uninspired bordering on inedible. We did not complain about any of it but the waitress upon approaching our table and seeing all our food was consumed said, "I'll go see where your fries are". I told her not to waste her time now as we were all done with the whole meal, obviously. No apologies here at all.

She then returned with the bill and said "Thanks" and walked away. My sons started laughing at the ridiculousness of it all. We had such high hopes but now my sons said they want to go somewhere else for graduation dinner. I'm all for that. Two meals in a row kind of shows you what you can expect.

Reservation was easy.

Reservation was easy.
We had a large group and service was great.
Menu was a little difficult to understand being divided into subsections:
Small Plates
Medium Plates
Large Plates
But other than that the food was delicious.

We attended the Tibtan dinner for the culinary diplomacy series hosted at Joseph Decuis. It did not disappoint! Drinks from the bar were good but the food was made by a chef brought in and familiar with the recipes and was amazing. Appreciate Joseph Decuis hosting the night for the Tibetan monks and the meal and will be attending the next one in March! We may even journey there for their usual menu. The only frustrating item during this experience was that they ran out of room in the dining room so they seated our party in a back room. At one point in the meal seemed to have forgotten about us. Guests in the main dining room had food that we did not, and seemed to be finishing-meaning that they had been served quite a time before we were. They also gave us a waiter who was not old enough to serve drinks so we had to go find a waiter when we wanted to order them and then really annoy that person with multiple orders when they came back to the room.

Our server (Rochelle) was outstanding, the food delicious. My only complaint was that the bartender stood talking with the table behind me the entire time I was eating. I wish they had all moved to the bar where she could have entertained them without hovering behind me. Otherwise, though, it was a nice evening.

If I could give 6 stars, I would. Excellent food, excellent service, great atmosphere. Their creative chef takes great advantage of their farm to table operation, and everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. Wagu beef and high quality chicken and pork are the highlights, but don't forget the salads and appetizers. The avocado salad was possibly the best salad we've ever had.

My husband got us reservations for our anniversary as we had been wanting to try this restaurant for some time. It was so delicious! Everything paired very well together. The service was excellent. The food was all done perfectly. The menu was all things that I don't think we normally would have chosen to order ourselves but we are so glad we got to try it all because it was amazing. There wasn't anything we didn't love. Would highly recommend if you're looking for something different and special.

I've had the opportunity to dine in micheline starred restaurants across the country and Joseph Decuis served us dishes and courtesies worthy of those restaurants. It's the greatest in all of Indiana and its attention to details and its sourcing make it a cut above.

The wines, beers and spirits were all wonderful and complimenting. The charcuterie was made up of wonderful components each on their own and beautiful together. The soup was delicious and also unique which is important to us!

However the steak and mash were the center piece. I know steak. I know how to cook steak and very well. It was absolutely perfect. The ratios, the cut and the cook couldn't have been better.

Top 3 of my favorite restaurants I've eaten at and I will tell all I know about it and have already secured another reservation for the near future.

Bravo.

(And please forgive the board picture, my childish glee got ahead of myself. I took the picture after I lightly distorted their presentation!)

Have been a few times and Joseph Decuis has proven to be, every time, the highest quality restaurant within distance of Ft Wayne. The food is superb, the drinks are superb, the customer service is super, and the experience is superb.

The prices are higher here (as expected with such high quality) so definitely a place for special occasions but I have yet to find a place better suited for a high end celebration. If you have never been - highly recommend making plans for the future to experience what high quality dining can be.

This is a very special place. I have eaten at many of the top resturants in Vegas and Joseph Decuis is just as good or better. They raise their own Waygu beef and Magalesta (?) Pork, plus they grow vegtables year round at the farm. The sevice is great. You must have the full blood (pure Waygu) strip steak. Yes, it is expensive but if your looking for a place for a special occasion it's worth every penny! They have a chefs tasting menu and a regular menu. Looking foward to going back!
