Be prepared to queue for this fragrant bowl of unagi rice! My family queued for nearly 2 hours, but this was totally worth it. The unagi is very fresh, and skillfully grilled. It is smoky and crispy on the outside, but sweet and soft on the inside. Absolutely loved it and was already craving for more after I finished my share!

Came here on a Friday evening around 5.30 pm and was 3rd in the queue. Do note that all members of your group must be present before they allow you to enter. Seating inside is ok but rather cramp. They have baby chair for those who are coming with young kids. I would say it a place where you eat and go. Not to stay for long period to have group casual conversation. They have Unagi options which comes with fresh wasabi for you to grate and eat. This is the real stuff. You can see the live eels in the tank and the chef cooking the unagi. Overall good food and you can taste the crystalline sugar as the sauce was being grilled with the unagi. I had the large serving which is mangable if your really hungry.

LOVE this place! Unagi is super fresh from the start all the way to grill . You can taste the freshness.
Serving is very fast too. Would recommend to come around 11:30 during weekend if you don't want to queue.

Went down to tried out the unagi rice with my friends. It was bcoz of high rating over google n some Local Food bloggers highly recommended. Over all our verdict is don't really worth of 4 to 5 * . But is still voice down to each n individual taste. It definitely not worth for my wait and the price.

Very nice Unagi, and natural wasabi.

However, like in any Singaporean Japanese restaurant, the way they try to seem Japanese is a bit ridiculous.

Always consistently good. Hype has died down so there re no longer insane queues at lunch. Pricey but I think worth it, not as good as the one in Kytoto but honestly it s close enough and as close as it gets outside of Japan imo.

Had large unagi hitsumabushi and ikura hitsumabushi. The unagi was tasty and grilled to perfection. My favourite is the ikura (fish egg), taste almost the same as the one I had back in Hokkaido!

Abit pricey but definitely the best unagi I had in Singapore. The crisp exterior is unlike anything you'd get in other restaurants which does not prepare your unagi fresh and grilled over charcoal.

Need to queue for more than half an hour when reaching there around 7 pm. We order hitsumabushi regular size. The three ways of taste are all delicious - with condiments and mixing rice into soup worth trying both of them.

I loved loved loved the unagi. The only down side was the price. The experience itself was amazing and they even provided fresh wasabi which I thought was such a nice touch to the meal. It definitely is a go to place for good unagi. The bones were good for swallowing as well. I've been to places where it's not been done right and poses a real choking hazard but not with this place! :)

Great place for hitsumabushi (Nagoya-style unagi meal). Pretty much on par with the better outlets in Nagoya, and cheaper too.

I think Man Man's large hitsumabushi is more or less comparable to the regular size hitsumabushi at Ichibiki in Nagoya, which I visited previously. If my recollection is accurate, Man Man's eel is very slightly less fragrant and thinner, with a slightly sweeter sauce, but the surface is more crisp and the meat of the eel has a nice smooth (not slimy) texture. Also, their service is much faster, which we really appreciated, and they have a "regular" hitsumabushi option for people who want to try it but aren't looking for a heavy or very expensive meal. We ordered 1 regular hitsumabushi per person, and the portion size was just right for lunch.

If you are planning to try the hitsumabushi, it's worth doing a quick web search to find out how to eat it. Noteworthy: Man Man supplies the eel broth in a small jug on the side, and their wasabi is fresh - so fresh that you are expected to grate it yourself, with a little grater provided. No fake horseradish wasabi here!

This outlet is situated at Duxton Plain Park, so the surroundings whilst waiting are pleasant - but do bring an umbrella, because queuing in the rain can be unpleasant. Also, the restaurant is crowded and you are likely to be seated elbow-to-elbow with strangers. But at the price, this might very well be the best unagi you can get anywhere outside of Japan.

Best grilled unagi I've had so far! The freshness of the unagi really makes a difference to flavor and most importantly texture. The flamed flesh was crispy and the skin side was gelatinous and had a little bite to it. Perfect! I actually prefer the white grill (without the sweet soy) as you can really taste the flavor of the eel itself. Also love the fact they give you fresh wasabi to grate yourself!!

Best place for unagi in Singapore. Everything is fresh and delicious! A bit pricey, but expected for good unagi. Restaurant's cozy and there's a live demo on how they prepare the unagi if you can stomach it. Service is friendly and accomodating. Just expect long queues

Long queues and pricey but I would totally recommend because it's worth it. Never had such amazing Unagi in Singapore before. You can be assured it's fresh because they eels are swimming in the tanks before they are cooked.

Highly recommended! Best unagi I have ever eaten! Worth queuing up the longest time for a restaurant 90mins... (so forewarning) there is no shade while waiting, please bring umbrella.

The meal set of the unagi is generous size with other options of size dishes like grill unagi liver that is actually quite tasty. There are a few ways to eat your unagi meal, if the staff is there to help explain how you can enjoy the meal- like a don style, or add abit of dashi soup to the mixing bowl with rice and unagi (becomes a unagi chazuke) or simply eat the grill unagi as like bento meal.

Overall ambience is good, alil squeezy to the next table as it s a pretty small size of the restaurant which part is occupied by the visible glass panel overlooking several unagi chefs cooking.

Attentive staff and good Service! Love to go back for more... do need to plan ahead, better weekdays and definitely que before it opens 30-45mins at least to avoid the possible long que.

We got there at 5.45 and waited in line til 6.30pm. The area was shaded so was not too bad waiting outside.

We got the $S29.50 set, (including service and taxes this was approx $S35). This included a miso soup, unagi soup, rice with the fresh wasabi and spring onion condiment.

The unagi itself was lovely, crisp barbecue outer and soft flesh. Combined with their unagi sauce and other condiments it worked well. Having it with the soup option was also refreshing.

You also get a cold Japanese brown rice tea.

The atmosphere was not too relaxing. Your food comes quick, literally as soon as you order your plate of unagi arrives. Which is great! But then they play music that resembles temple run and even though the staff do not rush you, you naturally eat quickly and also want to leave quickly - knowing that people are waiting outside which can't be helped.

Whilst we were waiting for a table outside we noticed people leaving within half an hour and now we know why - food served like flash, temple run music, also since people may have been waiting for a while outside you're also hungry / food is also good.. so you eat quickly.

Would I come again? Probably not as missing the atmosphere and not sure if it is worth the wait if you're only going to be seated for half an hour, but food is good... Probably will get takeout.

Cosy feel when enter the restaurant. If sit at the counter, you could see the chief grilling the eel. Tried the Hitsumabushi and the new Hokkaido Ikura Hitsumabushi. I would say the the Ikura is quite pricy and would rather have a bigger portion of unagi.
Compare to other unagi restaurant, Man Man is more crispy but still soft on the inside. Would highly recommend to try the Hitsumabushi as you can experience different ways to eat the unagi.
The price is expensive but the definitely worth your money. And once you try it you won't go back to those cheap unagi. :D
And if you like abit more spicy remember to ask for the spicy sauce!

Come early to beat the dinner crowd as this place is not very big to accomodate huge crowds. This place serves up very tasty Unagi rice, and you are able grate your own wasabi for your personal use. You are able to view the live eel preparation if you are not squeamish about eel blood andd guts. Ease your dinner with ice cold Japanese beer.

Probably one of the best unagi restaurant in singapore. They served fresh eel, not like other restaurant. The unagi taste so good and light (not overpowering). Price wise maybe a bit more expensive but since it was prepared from live eel still worth it. For sure will go here again next time

Fresh unagi from the tanks in the shop, grilled so that the skin is crispy but the flesh is still soft, and does not taste burnt. Wished that the unagi was fleshier as I felt it was a little thin. Nonetheless, loved the food there and the different styles of eating it; with and without the dashi. Would come back again

Go by myself alone around 6.50pm, and got to be serve around 7pm.. Lucky to got a corner seat myself facing counter .. If going in group maybe will need to wait at least 30minutes to 2 hours.. There is certain way to enjoy the unagi don but I am not really sure how it done.. I just mixed the seaweed, spring onions, a lot wasabi and a teapot of soup together in the end, it taste really awesome! For next time will order a large portion, regular size is not enough for me tho

Do be prepared to queue approximately 10-20 minutes even on a weekday night (depending on the size of your group). Just go straight for the Large Hitsumabushi to maximise a first visit experience, and order a draft beer to complete your meal. Interestingly, their ice cream and mochi were unexpectedly decent. However, my friend did mention that the standard has dropped since a few months ago.

The best unagi in Singapore in my opinion. The unagi so juicy and smokey flavour make it perfect. Better do reservation before since dinner time always packed. Sashimi salad also so fresh and tasty. Come with miso soup that refreshing. Recommended to try although a bit out from downtown area.

Decent Nagoya style Unagi. Good amount of char, not overly heavy on seasoning. Only gripe is that the eels are not fatty enough, hence unable to achieve the same kind of flavours as the heavyweight names in Japan.

4 stars accorded given how hard it is to find any better alternatives in Singapore

The decor and ambience was great and everything seemed perfect when we got in. However, everything went downhill once the food arrived.. like 5 minutes after we ordered.. No, the unagi wasn't great, but definitely better than other frozen examples served in most Japanese restaurants in Singapore. The whole unagi experience back in Japan was very much better in terms of flavour (Esp Kagoshima). My mother grew up eating Unagi in Japan and she was too polite to give a thumbs down, rather just smiled away and tried to finish her meal.

The Sansho (japanese pepper) was old and didn't have any fragrance. The skin was a bit too burnt, leading to some skin parts being hard. The whole process also felt hurried and we felt like we were in a factory line. The servers were quick to remove our trays once each of us finished our food. The portions were ok for large and medium, and our meal was over slightly over 15 minutes after we started eating. Perfect for the restaurant as they will be able to feed the next group of people queueing up.

This restaurant is the perfect example of people following empty trends. I'm sorry Man Man, but !!

Quite pricey, unagi was quite soft, preferred it to be cooked slightly longer. Seats near the entrance which are also near the water tanks have a fishy smell. Quite orderly manner to get seats. I m not sure if it s worth the hype. Good for one try.

One of the best Ugagi restaurant in Singapore. Fresh Unagi with Japanese sauce BBQ to perfection where the meat is soft and white on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. They serve everything unagi, the Kimoyaki (Liver) have a more chewy texture and is a must try. Good service and great food comes with a price. Lunch with 4 people will probably set up back about S$100.
