Jack.org: Transforming the Way We Think About Mental Health
Welcome to Jack.org, Canada’s largest network of young leaders transforming the way we think about mental health. Founded in 2010 by Eric Windeler and Sandra Hanington, Jack.org is a national charity that trains and empowers young people to become leaders in mental health advocacy. With a mission to end the stigma surrounding mental illness and promote positive mental health for all, Jack.org has become a leading voice in the fight for better mental health care.
At its core, Jack.org is about empowering young people to take charge of their own mental health. By providing training and support for youth-led initiatives, Jack.org helps young people develop the skills they need to create positive change in their communities. From hosting events and workshops on mental health awareness to advocating for better access to resources and services, Jack.org is committed to making a difference.
One of the key ways that Jack.org achieves its mission is through its flagship program, the National Youth Council (NYC). Comprised of over 200 student leaders from across Canada, NYC members are trained as peer-to-peer educators on topics related to mental health. They then use this knowledge to create initiatives within their schools and communities that promote positive mental health practices.
In addition to its work with youth leaders, Jack.org also partners with organizations across Canada on various initiatives related to improving access to resources and services for those struggling with their mental health. For example, it has partnered with Bell Let’s Talk Day – an annual event aimed at raising awareness about issues related to depression – since 2011.
Jack.org’s impact can be seen not only in its partnerships but also through its numerous awards recognizing excellence in advocacy work around issues related specifically or indirectly towards Mental Health Awareness such as The Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness & Mental Health (CAMIMH) Champions of Mental Health Awards which recognized Eric Windeler's contribution towards creating a positive change in the mental health landscape.
Overall, Jack.org is a powerful force for change in the mental health space. By empowering young people to become leaders in mental health advocacy and promoting positive mental health practices, it is helping to create a brighter future for all Canadians.
