Great museum which has a long history as hospital for army verterians before falling into disrepair. A section of the museum charts it's history with interactive displays and explains how the building was restored to become the Irish Museum of Modern Art. As well as changing art exhibitions the building has a cafe, toilets and extensive gardens which are well worth exploring.

The building itself was beautiful and there was a wedding going on at the time which was nice to see, however I wasn't blown away by the selection of modern art. A few interesting video pieces around the museum though.

The staff was helpful and here to answer your questions.

Beautiful building & not too crowded. Regular exhibits are free but special exhibitions have a fee. We saw the special Freud Exhibition & it was great. The cafe is a great pace to grab a snack/coffee/tea or a full meal (though not cheap).

Very large beautiful building, but there are works of art in only a few spaces. The works that are hanging there are disappointing. To me it seemed more like hobby work than art. The sculpture garden is also limited. Glad that the entry was free.

A beautiful space! both in terms of the architecture of the building and artpieces!! Most of the exhibitions are free, so definitely worth a go. Make sure you visit the immaculately well kept and designed maze garden next to the Museum. The Museum is housing the collection by Derek Jarman until end of February 2020.

Yes the grounds are quite nice and there s a cafe too but considering this is Ireland s most well known art museum, I expected more. It s a small museum and the permament exhibition was not even on display (most of it being in storage) leaving 3 temporary exhibitions for which you have to pay entry, so the IMMA is not free entry . The variety of art and range of artists that were being shown leaves something to be desired. First things first, it needs to have a free, well-curated display of its permanent collection. Is that too much to ask for?

Very underrated. Would reccomend visiting the IMMA to anyone visiting Dublin. If you don't really like art, visit for the building and its gardens. It's free to see the amazing exhibitions, except for the Freud exhibition which is 8 euros(free for students). This part of the museum is only worth visiting if you are a fan of his types of art(mainly portrets).

Visit! It's really good.

Entrance to the museum is free. You will have to pay for the entrance to the museum itself.

I would advise you to include this place in your walk. There is nothing special to look at if you do not visit the museum, but taking a walk along the long alley that leads to the museum is a very nice and pleasant experience. Especially along the way, along the alley, funny signs and interesting exhibits are located.
