Independent Health offers $2000 a year for dental ...

Independent Health offers $2000 a year for dental through Liberty. However, when I tried to use my dental insurance, my claim was denied even though the procedure I was getting done is supposed to be covered by Liberty. When I tried calling Liberty on two different occasions, I spent 2 hours listening to a recording tell me they would be with me when an operator became available. So I called Independent Health regarding Liabilities’ apathy, they referred me back to the number I had already been on hold with for two hours! Even though Independent Health contracts with Liberty to provide dental insurance for their members, they can care less in Liberty fulfills their agreement. For all those seniors out there thinking about going with Independent Health, look elsewhere if you’re looking for integrity from a provider.

If I was not covered by this company may not be alive. They have always but once given me everything that I needed. I find the agents more than helpful and they are always pleasant and willing to help.

They will not cover the medication I have been on for 30 years and they will not cover a procedure that I will be having. I've only had them now as my insurance for 1 month and I am already frustrated. My previous insurance would cover.

This place is awful denied my surgery had to appeal.. then they drag the feet when you need special tests done .. now they deny another surgery my son needs. They don't care about the welfare of your health .

Independent Health is a great insurance company, Beacon Health is not. All of IH Medisource is being moved to Beacon, which is a very sad thing. Beacon is horrible at paying providers. We are just now being paid for September claims. They will say DOB's are wrong, when you call them about it, they say they DOB is correct, but yet they don't pay the claim. They say you billed on the wrong form, yet they send you a copy of the claim and it is on the correct form. When we initially called provider services, we were told they didn't have a phone and we could only email them. This is a sad day when IH is replaced by Beacon. Beacon short pays claims and ignores them, they are horrible to deal with. Beware! IH gets 5 stars, Beacon gets 1/2.

How can you do that to all those cancer patients!! What the H-ll is wrong with you! Obviously you only care about the bottom line! What? Your CEO didn't get to buy his yacht this year! I don't have your insurance! Thank G-d!! You sound like a nightmare! Maybe you should try putting your insured first!!

Racism is Alive and Well in Independent Health's HR Team!!!!

I attended the HireBuffalo job fair at the Buffalo / Niagara Marriott on 3/21/2019, and Independent Health's HR representatives at the fair were the worst I've ever encountered. I approached the booth and both women were extremely friendly and welcoming to me, despite the fact that I am a student and not currently job seeking, simply due to the fact that I am white.

On the other hand, my partner, however, is an extremely qualified engineering master's graduate; the difference in our treatment was determined solely by our race, seeing as he is a minority and I am white. The women at this booth were EXTREMELY cold, inattentive, and unprofessional and dismissed him without even allowing him to get their contact information despite his very kind and professional inquiry to do so. Please keep in mind, my meeting with the Independent Health team was just moments before his, and I stood mere feet away watching him be rejected and dismissed solely due to his race and in spite of his extensive experience and qualifications.

This was by far the worst interaction I have ever experienced within a networking event, let alone from a company who prides themselves on being customer and client-driven and not-for-profit. I am disgusted, disappointed, but sadly, not surprised. I will never enlist this company for their services, and I will advise all my peers, friends, and family to do the same. You should be disgusted with these women.

They have gone from 5 stars, my previous review, to one star. Absolutely horrific customer service. I am one of the nicest people you will ever meet, so when I have to start yelling that I'll get a lawyer and that they need to figure something out now, then you know it's a problem. I take a necessary prescribed medication that is not a controlled substance. I am going on a long vacation. My pharmacist tried to get me a vacation override. Independent Health told me a) I'm not allowed a vacation over ride. b) I am not allowed to pick up my medicine early and c) I am not allowed to pick it up at a Rite Aid outside of western New York. It's very ridiculous that I can't pick up my medicine at a Rite Aid in another state or in another part of New York. Even if it were a controlled substance, it still is ridiculous. I told the Independent Health woman on the phone, "so, you're telling me either I have to stay home and be on my medication and miss my vacation or I have to go on vacation and be miserable without it?" When I told her that's exactly what she's saying and I wanted her to repeat it she refused to. I demanded to her she figure something out now. Finally, she figured out my next door neighbour can ship it. Due to the fact I will be travelling to multiple states, and being a holiday my extremely nice neighbour will be picking it up but will have to pay for overnight so that it gets to me in time. I will definitely be leaving Independent Health when eligible. What a disgusting plan they have put some people on that we can't even get our medicine at another Rite Aid or CVS outside of western NY.

Horrific. Site is incredibly difficult to find info which is often outdated.

I am currrenly paying $8976.24 annually for them to deny all bills and make the practices jump through hoops with my immune compromises to get paid and mandatory blood work and monitoring.

Every call requires 3 more people to give an answer. Next day, they deny they made any statements.

They lied to the papers about proposed increases for 2019. In Buff. Biz Journal 6/4/18 issue they allege they will propose 23% increase (same as last year). Lies, all lies.

My proposal dated 6/4, mailed in unposted-marked envelope, received 6/23, giving me 5 days to respond of the 30 mandated by law, has a 31.18% proposed increase. $748.02 to $981.25.

My annual price for a single, self-supporting adult, will go from $8976.24 a year to $11,775.

I tried 4 times to report that someone in PA shows on my account as being paid benefits. I could not get one person to help with the fraud. Not one person. Insurance fraud that reflects on my medical history and they could care less. 4 different phone calls. Why doesn't their system flag out of state doctor submissions to investigate? Different names. They are Mexican origin my name is not. No one at Independent Health would help or cared about the fraud.

I can call three times and get three different answers.

I have been with IH for several years and have been very pleased with the service I have been receiving. I also enjoy very much HEALTHStyles magazine that you publish a few times a year. I find this very informative, easy to read and beneficial to my overall health. Thank you.

4 year old child with asthma has been on nebulizer with regularly prescribed medication that was not working. Mother took her to physician who prescribed another medication with fewer side effects and had expectation of working better. Pharmacy had the script at 6:05 pm. by 9pm at pharmacy closing Independent health had not authorized the script so the child had to suffer till the next day. Luckily she did not land up in the hospital. Pharmacist said the problem was likely to be that the new prescription was more expensive. Ok, folks, if the child was on the "less expensive" medication and it wasn't working and causing other issues doesn't it make sense that the doctor prescribed appropriately? When you are dealing with a company that claims to value life what does this tell you? This is not the first time that such a thing has happened in this same family and I'll bet others have had the same issue. When is it that a business overrides a physician order? Oh, I know, when Independent Health is part of Obamacare. Give me a break!!

Denied prescription that was ordered by a specialist physician. I wonder who sits at the decision makers desk pressing the approved/denied button. They must have many years of training to diagnose a patient through telepathy. Try having seem common sense here folks. Had a doctor ask me if I knew why they re shirts are red? Because they bleed your pocketbook !!! His words not mine.

Horrible customer service. It s great that my employer was saving money when we switched from BCBS, although I would have paid the few extra bucks to at least have half way informed reps answer the phone.

I use to love Independent health. NOW I HATE THEM!!! I have some serious health issues and my Dr has tried to help me with finding out what is wrong by trying to send me for some tests. How can they find out what's wrong when Independent health declines medical care!! I filed an appeal and still have been denied medical attention and a lady that called me said that I can file another appeal. SERIOUSLY??? My Dr said I need these tests to see what to do next. Isn't My Dr's concern ENOUGH???!!!

After 14 months of sleep studys, my last test got denied be my independent health Medicare plan. I have to pay $480 (I cant afford on ssd) now to make sure I dont pass out and die and they're fine with that after speaking with them. They still refused to help/give me the benefits I pay for, talk to the correct Doctors who have my proper medical information. If by chance I do die due to this, at least my family will be set for life financially (to be divided up by my mother) but will be missing a son, brother, grandson, brother-in-law, nephew, godfather, cousin and good friend to many. Thank You Independent Health. I believe this review may save one person's life and with that, I can have a clear conscious. Many insurance companies out there. Where do the get a multi million dollar advertising budget? By saving money. One way of doing that is denying your claim. I talked to a "red shirt", rude and argumentative. No help or in depth explanation could be givin and had no option to speak with anyone else. I cant wait till my contract it up in a few months so I can get the help I pay for from a reliable company.

I have been with them for many years and I think they are the best insurance co. I ever had to deal with. If you read up on them first--and check the prescription formula for what is or is not covered---that info is all there.

For the 3rd time in many expensive years with IH. They have decided they know more than doctors and won't fill a prescription that was prescribed by one of your specialists that I paid extra to see. I hope the $100 you saved helps the corporate bottom line. I will continue to hand you over $5000 a year for this privilege. So according to My Independent Health representative the members health is their first priority. This was offered as the reason they turned down a prescription.

Horrible, horrible institution. I cannot believe how stingy they are with their coverage. I have a complicated medical issue, and there are no doctors in my state who are able to do the procedure, so I made a request to Independent Health for coverage from a doctor a few states over who is willing to do this procedure. I have been fighting to get this expensive surgery covered for months to no avail. I am in constant pain, but because the doctor is out-of-network they refuse to cover me, DESPITE letters I have sent from numerous doctors explaining my horrendous situation, they continue to refuse coverage!!! So frustrating. I would highly advise against independent health, they are not helpful at all and if you are ever in need of a surgery for a fringe issue, do not expect them to help you in ANY way.

I'm proud to work for this company, which is full of intelligent, idealistic people. You wouldn't necessarily expect that in a health insurance company, but there it is. There is constant work on improving the healthcare system.

Red Shirt Treatment is ripping you off. Just spoke with Independent Healthcare rep. When I've ordered meds through IH, they are still much higher than getting them through GoodRX, which only requires you have a pulse! Ind Health will not give credit towards the deductable. They probably price the meds higher than GoodRX so they can rip the customer off. The rep said she had other people complain! Rip off.

I ve been faithfully paying my children s monthly premium and they accused me of not paying. I know I did so I doubled checked my bank statement and low and behold there it was! Bad business. It was inhumane how my children did not have health coverage for two months in a first world country! May God have mercy on them. What goes around comes around.

A health care company with a goal to reject your claim. Recently they a rejected claim for a costly medicine. They first rejected the claim with a reason that they don't cover the medication. I spoke with a rep and he gave me a name of a medication with they cover. I requested my doctor and he wrote a prescription for that. They rejected again under technical ground.

I was a bit curious. I have created an account online and checked how much this plan is paying for me. I regularly take 3 medications. I found the plan paid nothing towards those medications. Since they are generic, those are around $10 anyway. So this plan is doing nothing for me other than ripping me off.

I am not sure who monitors fraudulent companies like this. I hope someone will read this review and investigate this company.

Independent Health has been a great partner. Every time I call for support, I always get a friendly support representative. They treat you with respect and care. They've helped me through some very complex billing/prescription issues for my son. Thank you!

They dont care about your health, just the money. I have, some say for my plant and i will insist we get a real insurance company, not an HMO. I will be in the hospital because the independent lealth doc thinks i dont need it. What a trump move, it is what it is...you suck and i will continue to spread tbe news. Suck suck suck.

Not the best insurance company if you have thyroid...

Not the best insurance company if you have thyroid cancer. I am being forced to see a doctor that is not board certified endocrinologist that knows how to deal with thyroid cancer. The closest board certified endocrinologist that can handle my thyroid cancer is in Rochester which is out of network. We can't afford to pay out of pocket to see this doctor. On top of that they won't even cover my thyroid medicine because it's not Levothyroxine ( the only medicine they completely cover). I am allergic to Levothyroxine and have no choice but to take Armour. So each month I have to pay an arm and leg out of pocket to stay alive because my thyroid was removed. We pay a lot of money through my husband's employer for this insurance and I am not happy that they are playing Russian roulette with my life. I deserve to receive decent cancer care. They need to realize that thyroid cancer paitents need to see a board certified endocrinologist that knows about cancer and knows about TSH suppression to keep the cancer from coming back, which there is no endocrinologists in Buffalo or in the counties they cover that is qualified to keep up with my cancer care. I cannot see my oncologist every 3 months anymore only once a year now ( also due to Independent health). My tsh levels need to be checked at least every 3 months by someone qualified. I am not Happy with Independent Health at all! So, I guess when my cancer comes back and kills me, my family can sue Independent health for the crappie care and the exuberant amount we pay each month to them to kill me. The health insurance laws and coverage needs to change!

I would never buy this insurance again! They think they are God and can just hide behind Magellan to deny you what you have been prescribed...tests included. I never knew how bad the insurance was until Now!!!! Blue Cross/ Blue shield never denied me anything!
