IIT Kanpur was established in 1960 through the provisions of an act of Parliament. It is a public engineering college that offers more than 60 courses across five streams. The institute ranks at 5th position for engineering and 6th overall as per NIRF 2019. Internationally, IIT Kanpur was ranked 291 in QS World University Rankings for 2020.

A beautiful place with a lot of flora and fauna, organized infrastructure and the best minds in the world. Life here is a organized and disciplined, yet with no restricts at all. Every person can try out almost anything here, thanks to the immense number of cultural, technical and sports clubs as well as hobby groups, and then convert it into passion. One of the only colleges which has its own air-strip, wind-tunnel and planetarium. Also one of India's top hubs for cyber-security and data-management.

The best Institute for engineering. The most recognized for good placements and the infrastructure and the ambience. The people studying here are lucky and ambitious but little odd also. The college situated in the lush greenery environment is known for the tech fest. The hardest to join and the most admired college. If you're looking for good inspiration and better future join this. The self study is must cause over the years the teaching quality has dropped down. The professors are well known book writers and some are treated as bollywood stars and people get excited when the arrive. People go crazy for them. And the outside people will never know how famous they are inside the campus. The tech fest is associated with numerous colleges and the certificate is considered very precious one. Must visit once so you can feel the environment. Also people are bit weird here as they are shy and all nerds will blow your mind. Big companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple, are there for campus interview. But the placements have gone down by 5-10% than the last year. But the packages are exciting and guaranteed to make you rich. In short clear your JEE to admit here. People get packages above 1cr. This iit have best placement records. How many people Only dream to study in IIT but some have weak in study & some lack of money.

IIT Kharagpur is among the few places in India which give access to a Bloomberg terminal.This is one of the few things KGP has to offer to help you leap forward on the non-core career path. So, if you are a non-core aspirant, the place is heaven for. Greater flexibility in the course framework should be there. Most importantly I would love to have better Gender ratio here. Some departments should enhance their framework for placement. Also, departments like Aerospace Eng. should be merged with the Mechanical department, as it will lead to the opening of many Companies for Aero students as well.

IIT Kanpur was established by an Act of Parliament in 1959. The institute was started in December 1959 in a room in the canteen building of the Harcourt Butler Technological Institute at Agricultural Gardens in Kanpur. In 1963, the institute moved to its present location, on the Grand Trunk Road near the locality of Kalyanpur in Kanpur district.

During the first ten years of its existence, a consortium of nine US universities (namely M.I.T, University of California, Berkeley, California Institute of Technology, Princeton University, Carnegie Institute of Technology, University of Michigan, Ohio State University, Case Institute of Technology and Purdue University) helped set up IIT Kanpur's research laboratories and academic programmes under the Kanpur Indo-American Programme (KIAP).[6] The first Director of the Institute was P. K. Kelkar (after whom the Central Library was renamed in 2002).

Under the guidance of economist John Kenneth Galbraith, IIT Kanpur was the first institute in India to offer Computer science education.[7] The earliest computer courses were started at IIT Kanpur in August 1963 on an IBM 1620 system. The initiative for computer education came from the Electrical engineering department, then under the chairmanship of Prof. H.K. Kesavan, who was concurrently the chairman of Electrical Engineering and head of the Computer Centre. Prof. Harry Huskey of the University of California, Berkeley, who preceded Kesavan, helped[clarification needed] with the computer activity at IIT-Kanpur. In 1971, the institute began an independent academic program in Computer Science and Engineering, leading to M.Tech. and Ph.D. degrees.

In 1972 the KIAP program ended, in part because of tensions due to the U.S. support of Pakistan. Government funding was also reduced as a reaction to the sentiment that the IIT's were contributing to the brain drain.

As it's an IIT Kanpur, the institute covers some state of the art engineering courses with best curriculum. Research and lab facilities are quite modern.The institute has produced a lot of excellent students working across the nation.

One of the finest science and engineering institute of India. The institute covers some state of the art engineering courses with elaborated curriculam. Teachers are experienced and skillful. Enrolment exams for graduation courses are very competitive and getting chance is very prestigious. The institute has produced a lot of brilliant students working across the nation and globe. Research and lab facilities are quite modern.

Firstly it's huge place. It has I think two or three schools in it including K.V. . The classes and library are awesome mostly students like them more during summers because of the Air conditioner .IIT kanpur mostly looks beautiful during antaragni and other fest when huge no. of students are in the campus and the whole campus is decorated and at that time it seems to be a new place . Sports facilities in IIT is much better than what you could expect it has I think 5 indoor badminton, full size swimming pool , squash court, 2cricket ground( I am sure about 1 but not sure about 2), and everything you could expect.faculty is just awesome and very ground to earth you would not believe someone send I love you to the professor from my friend's phone and then he calmy accepted our apologies and blessed us for future it was just a lifetime experience and I hope you would not question there education as it's just marvelous they are super good in their respective fields.Its a great place to be a part of .
