Known as the Indian Council of Forestry Research or simply Forest Research Institute, is the premier institution for forestry research and imparting education in the same field.
It was established more than a century ago, and attained the status of University (deemed) about three decades back.
Visitors were permitted when I visited in 2015 - 16.
It also houses the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, that trains candidates for placement in the Indian Forest Service.
The campus and the buildings are breath-takingly beautiful.
