Lovely ice rink! Homemade pizza in the snack bar too!
We had a good time as a family and will beer going back.
Be prepared to bring a sweater and get there early when the rink is empty. After all the children come along it gets a lot harder to skate.
Such a cool spot. $11.50 if you bring your own skates or $15 with rental skates from 1:30 to 4:30 daily . Really clean spot, friendly and nice staff! Great for kids!
Nice neat place to watch hockey. Very cold for morning games.
After years of waiting for the promised ice skating rink, Santa barbara/Goleta finally got it! So fun
Used the axxess card to get free skate rentals and had a great time!
New place. Has shop with food and beer.
2 skating arenas.
My daughters love this rink, and enjoy the hockey teams. The rink manager, Larry, is one of the best.
You only pay 10 dollars and you can stay as long as you want. It's a great place and really fun!
After hearing about this facility opening my girlfriend and I were eager to check it out. Growing up in Santa Barbara I'd heard rumors of an ice rink opening since I was a child. When we got to the rink they had us skate in the smaller kid sized rink. It looked like they hadn't used the zamboni machine on it all day; the ice was completely torn up. I was extremely dissapointed by the lack of professionalism at this establishment. There is no way that the experience I recieved justified their price point.
I would not reccomend this to anyone. If you want to ice skate then go somewhere else.
Excellent facility, well maintained. Clean. Friendly people. Reasonable prices. Loved the cafe off the lobby. My daughter and I stated, them got a snack, then skated some more.
This is a great, new facility offering league skating and free time skating. Reasonably priced so we take our grandson and his friends frequently. They even have a snack bar with good coffee for us oldsters watching the kids! Be sure to check their schedule before going.
I loved it!! I love everything about. So much fun. This place was worth the wait. There's something for everyone. I highly recommend this place. It's amazing.
I love this place. My friends and I enjoy it so much. And I love it because once the ice gets all torn up they clean it and it only takes a minute. I TOTALLY recommend this rink.
Really good ice rink, snack bar. Really helpful staff
There is a Trivia Night every Wednesday night at 7. Prizes are available for a winning team.
Great group rates for their smaller rink with skates and helper carts and buckets for small kids included. Kids of all ages would have much more fun if they had ever skated or roller bladed before.
If I could rate a 0 I would have....
Went here for a birthday party with 3 middle-aged teens, a 62-year-old grandma and two young adults for a birthday party. We had a little bit of difficulty with our grandma having stability issues so we kindly ask for an assistant tool so she would be able to skate easier.
Paul, the manager here first asked us to point her out on the ice. She was on the opposite side of the rink holding onto the side.
After pointing her out like he asked, he turned to us and said rudely, "if she can't skate then how did she get all the way over there?" I explained that we assisted her around the rink, but she fell a few times and needed a support tool. He said it was only for children, and although we understood that, we explained she is 62 years old and she wanted to enjoy skating with her grandkids...his replied was, "I wouldn't put my grandma on the ice if she can't skate."
I was so shocked by how rude he was to us. So I asked for a refund for our tickets. First he said he couldn't do that and I told him we are not going to stay if she cannot skate. Then he said he would only refund her ticket.
Of course this was not going to be acceptable since we had just gotten there, and spent maybe 10min on the ice. I continued to ask for a refund until finally he threw up how hands and said, fine get them all off the ice and I'll give you all your money back.
First he refunded us who had receipts from paying with a credit card. Then he gave us a hard time about the three teens and our grandma who paid with cash because they didn't have a receipt. The receptionist who took the payments said they usually don't give receipts to those who pay in cash, so getting more frustrated he started looking it up in the computer.
Then one by one he returned the cash, not realizing that we had four ppl who needed cash refunds, he seemed to be getting more and more irritated each time and asking for receipts even tho we had already explained that she did not give receipts for the payment made in cash. He literally threw the refund receipts back at my teenage siblings and my grandmother. I stood there and watched him do this. Deciding to not make matters worse and mention his extremely rude attitude and actions, I stayed silent because obviously he had no costumer service skills at all. The two employees working with him looked embarrassed and the young lady with blonde hair was apologetic.
In the end he lost the ice rink $112.50 in sales, and completely ruined a nice family outing / 18th birthday celebration. I felt bad for my grandmother who still enjoys to be active and was having a great time even tho it was difficult for her. There was no one else out on the ice using any support tools, so this whole situation could have easily been avoided had they been nice enough to assist the elderly!
In my opinion this was discrimination to old people. As a manager you should always be willing to be as helpful as you can. Even if we absolutely could not use the ice walker because of the rules, he could have handled that situation in a professional manner. No respect was given whatsoever. Even people standing around in the front area were kind of shocked that they wouldn't allow a grandma to use a walker.
As we left he said "sorry it couldn't work out, have a good night!"
This encounter was deeply disappointing and actually very hurtful, we will not ever be going back this poorly managed ice rink as long as he is the manager.
To the reader, don't waste your time or money here, there are other ice rinks with good friendly staff that know how to treat customers with respect!
Very fantastic place to finally skate and play hockey in SB.
Beautiful space for ice scating, groups, lessons ,ice hockey, rental ice skates, snacks, restroom, observation deck.
Love this place!! We have the greatest time and the people are so friendly. Facility is clean and prices are reasonable.
Really fun thing to do! The staff is nice and the place is clean
Great new ice skating rink for the local community.
Great staff with awesome facilities! The family always has a great time here
Pros
It s fun
There s food
Helpful, friendly staff
Cons
A little pricey if you want to go often. (I wanted to get someone a month pass for Christmas, but they don t have those.)
It is a break from sb weather and a calm place to visit and practice
My kids take ice skating classes here. The instructors are really fantastic: skilled, patient, and energetic.
Took my grandson he had a awesome time so did I & his mom
Ice skating in Santa Barbara. Amazing. A great modern rink. great for kids and anyone who likes the ice. Also on a hot summer day a nice cool place to have to food watching people skate.
Brings back memories of the Ice Patch from years ago. Great to have an ice rink in Santa Barbara again. Only downside is the price, for three people to skate it was over $45. That's a bit steep in my opinion. The plastic "walkers" that novice skaters can rent are pricey, $5 each. I had two kids who needed them, so between that, the $45 entry and skate rental, plus a snack I spent almost $70. I don't know how people with more kids can afford to do this on a regular basis. I'd love to bring my kids a lot more often, but we can't afford it. The rink itself is quite nice, clean, and the desk staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. I will definitely be going again, once I can save up some money for another visit!
It was really fun and the staff was really friendly
I give it 3 out of 5 stars because of the following:
The rink itself is great. The way the place is run is less than great. My daughter and I came from out of town and where excited to try out a new rink. Having grown up in SB its been a long while since the days of skating at "The Ice Patch" on the Mesa. This new facility is top notch.
However, I have four safety issues that id like to share as well as a general running of the skate session that we participated in.
First safety issue, was the fact that their are no coned off beginner areas for skaters to learn and push the little aids around. As we where skating their where kids running those things all over the place, across the ice, backwards, a few kids one device, parents pushing and sliding it. It was quite crazy.
Second safety issue, Their was no area in the middle of the rink for the more experienced skaters to practice their jumps and turns. They where stuck dealing with the crazy going on all over the rink. I know that maybe they get private ice time but maybe some of us not so experienced skaters might want to practice some stuff as well.
Third safety issue, I did not see any staff members patrolling the rink at all. I was there on a Friday afternoon session and we had speed skaters, teenagers, and those skate aids flying all around. Kids slamming into the walls, etc. Thank goodness it was not that crowded.
and my last safety issue, at our rink we have staff members help to insure proper lacing and fit on rental skates. I saw kids with poorly laced skates running around, as well as the fact that when I went to get my mothers rental skates they where not sure of sizing, and when I went to lace her up the lace broke. So then I had to wait back at the counter for a good 15 minutes before a staff member would even help me, they had 3 staff members helping a gal with a refund. Thank goodness my daughter and I own our own skates. That would have been another half hour.
And my very last concern about this visit is the fact that we had to skate for 3 hours in one direction. Do you people switch directions at all during a skate session ???? and as for price point. Its Santa Barbara, I think its spot on for everything else expensive in the area.
So, I loved the facility, but I think you guys need to visit some other facilities and see how they run their skate rinks. There is always room for improvement. I do think we will be back again, but I think I will call first and see if we have to skate in one direction for the duration of the session first.
They have a good thing started. I hope they continue to improve.
Thank you though for putting a rink in my hometown. I have missed "The Ice Patch".
I am sorry to compare this rink to our current rink, but it gave me a new perspective on how well our rink is ran. We have been spoiled.
Thank you
This is the best place to hang out with your friends and make memories. It also has a great lesson program. But a little pricey but that's ok.
Ice Skating and hockey in sunny Santa Barbara. Absolutely no one should have a complaint. Thank you to all who made this happen.
My niece had her 6th birthday party here today and everything was perfect. The manager Larry was really accommodating to us wanting our own thing. Prices were good and the pizza there is also good. Thank you for making her birthday one to remember:)
This rink is a lot of fun and runs a number of programs including hockey and figure skating lessons, however, the rental skates laces are all eaten up/too short, and when I asked about longer laces, they said they like it like that as it reduces the risk of people skating on their laces.
The length the laces end up, you can't loop them around your ankle which, particularly for the hockey skate, is incredibly important to give you control of the skate. The side gap in my hockey skates extended as far down as the ball on my ankle which gives you an idea about how much control I was able to exert over the skate.
The staff are friendly, and there are always regular figure skaters out on the ice training which is always fun to watch and dodge. There's a little coffee shop which serves both reasonable food choices, including for keto diet, as well as a nice variety of breakfast drinks, and alcohol. (Definitely beer, and I think wine)
All in all, for less than.$15 for ice time and rentals ($10 for ice time), this it's a great time, and great exercise.
I take lessons here, and have worked here on occasion. Staff are wonderful, the rinks are beautiful, and the instructors are awesome!! Great place to skate at any level. 10/10
Nice rink, but it's very crowded with kids who don't know how to skate and they're always tripping in front of you or running into you or something, and they don't resurface the ice enough. By the end of the open skating time the ice is about as smooth as asphalt .
For my first time ice skating, this place was wonderfully comfortable. The separate rinks is a great idea for first - timers and private parties. The catered food was also incredible, although a pool table could be added.
Big and fun ice skating rink. Friendly staff and clean.
Always amazing. Larry does a great job maintaining the quality of the ice.
Ice is a bit in the dirty side but that's to be expected from a communal rink. Otherwise the atmosphere is very friendly and songs played are nostalgic
Awesome skating ring. So much fun. Very friendly staff.
It's so much fun, and now we don't have to drive to Ventura to go ice skating!
Awesome place to hang with friends, great atmosphere, zizzos has amazing food. Just a great vibe to hangout and watch skating or hockey games or participate.
Nice rink, super awesome and sweet front desk guys!
Wonderful place! Zizzo's has great food, coffee, and craft beers. Seating is great for main rink. Love the venue.
Very cute and inexpensive rink for a day of skating!
Very friendly staff and a good time. Would highly recommend even for those who don't generally ice skate, like myself.
Cone here every once in a while because i live 3 hrs away, but i always enjoy struggling to stay alive while 10 year olds dance around me with the grace of a lotus flower. Its fun and reasonably priced. Good place to take friends and groups.
Great family atmosphere with something for everyone. Location can't be beat, it truly is ice in paradise
Beautiful rink with bar and grill. Regular sheet plus a studio rink. Well maintained.
Good ice in a bright and cheery facility. Dependable public and freestyle sessions with very few cancellations or changes to the schedule.
Always a really fun time! Love the skate aids for the kids! Only thing i can critique are the acoustics which are abysmal.. but that is probabaly par for the course at skate rinks.
Wow what a beautiful ice rink & a great community that appreciates it.
Brand new rink, well maintained. One NHL sheet of ice and a pond. Great spectating areas on second floor. No netting covers spectator area, great for filming games.
Outstanding ice rink and training location. Ample parking. Great store.
Great place for free skate, I believe people give lessons there as well. They have the things to help little kids skate. I love grabbing a beer and yelling at hockey league.
I have been to several ice rinks in California. This is one of the best.
Had a great experience first time skating on ice, only wish the musical choices were better
Great venue to have in the hearth of Goleta. We love it. My daughter and occasionally I spend hrs at the rink.
Thank you to those whose work made this possible in Goleta.
One of the best skating rinks I've been to... great place for a family outing and lots of hockey leagues at all levels and ages
While the place looked cool, there is no easy access information on the website signifying that the place is closed for reservations only
Fun but wish they had music while you skate. Also, pretty expensive.
