Came here for a school excursion. The tour guide we had was amazing, the funniest guy I know, and still informative. Even if you're not into art I can guarantee that you'll still love it. A must for locals and tourists alike.

This is definitely a must see gallery for those living and visiting Melbourne. The majority of the art gallery is free for the public to view and they do have a cloak room for those who have big coats and bags. The gallery is very clean, aesthetically pleasing and spacious which accommodates a comfortable visit for all even during peak hours of operation.

There is a great mixture of Australian, International, traditional and modern art for all appreciators to walk away with something for the intellect. There are about 3 levels of captivating art work so if you take your time viewing all the exhibits you could be here for a good couple of hours onwards. Plenty of seating is available to take a load off and special seating is provided for the bigger works for you to take in all there is to take in.

I had the pleasure of visiting the paid exhibit for Baldessin/Whiteley and did not regret the $18 entry. There is a great video playing in one of the rooms that gives you great insight into the artists plus there are copies of their book filled with art essays on their work. If you aren't thrilled with the idea of reading a big book, there are plenty of description plates accompanying the art through the exhibit. It's not a large collection of art but the quality and presentation is top notch. The gallery used appropriate lighting to bring out the mood in Baldessin's sculptures and Whitley's darker works. Overall it is an experience not to be missed while the exhibit is still running.

I recommend the Ian Potter gallery to all who love art. It is free so you have no excuse not to visit.

This is the Australian-content counterpart to the National Gallery of Victoria, so if you want to check out the Aussie art stuff, here's your destination Apart from the Traditionalist section you're probably familiar with, there's also an Indigenous art section that made me smile (a good counterpoint to the other collection ) and a selection of temporary exhibitions on the upper floor. Must do!

Australian Art Museum, permanent exhibition of art from the 19th century to the present day. A changing exhibition of Aboriginal artists who criticize the treatment received and received by the natives to this day. Exciting, painful and irritating. I had tears in my eyes.
