In fact, Melbourne has two NGVs, one is the International Pavilion and the other is this. The biggest difference between the two is nationality. This venue only contains works of art by local Australians and Aboriginals. In the NGV, which is far from the urban area, there are more works by international masters.
The best thing about The Ian potter centre is that there are not many people here, you can enjoy the paintings quietly, the admission is free, and most of the venues are free of charge. It is worth seeing.

Absolutely loved the Aboriginal art pieces! They feel so rich, so real, I was just in awe the whole time. I completely ignored the 19th/ 20th century Australian art to be honest, it's very has a very European style. It's nice but I've seen those in countless museums.

Cultural space that brings together mainly works by Australian artists. The museum is divided into two different buildings, one with only Australian works, The Ian Potter Center (The Atrium), and another where international works are found. The works are varied and include paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures and other artistic manifestations, such as architecture and fashion. Among some names of artists that are part of the permanent collection of the international area of the museum, are Camille Pissarro, Claude Monet and Rembrandt.

I really enjoyed this visit to the Ian Potter, NGV; it's always a lovely space. With a penchant for Fred Williams (my favourite Australian landscape painter), it was a surprise and delight to get to appreciate Arthur Streeton's landscapes on this occasion. Also to be able to see more of a snapshot of John Brack, Charles Blackman, John Percival, Arthur Boyd.
Margaret Preston is, of course, also a star in this gallery - having Australian women artists in the mix.

The building and the exhibition room are so stylish that you can fully enjoy it even in the free range.
It is an art museum of Autolarian Art.
Paintings, sculptures and apparel in the 19th and 20th centuries from Aboriginal art. Contemporary art installation can be enjoyed being exhibited politely while utilizing interior until the installation.
The color of the wall has changed for each theme and the exhibition is fine.
Even if you do not understand English much, the staff responded kindly to everyone. There is also a Japanese brochure and it can be very relieved.
It is really free of charge that this is awesome.

Amazing museum. Lot of classic and modern Australian Aboriginal art.
I spent there few hours because they have lot of very interesting expositions that I wanted to see on detail.
People at the museum are very professional and polite and always available to help you.
Very tidy and clean museum.
It's for free (unless specific temporary expositions) and it's a must if you are visiting Melbourne

Good range of Australian art. Visited thinking this was the one and only National Gallery building without realizing there is the National Gallery International Art building just a stone's throw away. Notwithstanding am pleased with the different forms of art displayed.

Went to visit the pool exhibition. Well it's just that, a tiny paddling pool. I don't know if this is art... I of course added a kiluja to make it into art. The kids seem to like playing on the little pool. There are for drying facilities before heading into the rest of the gallery.

Took the free guided tour at 1pm today. #Michael, our retired doctor of a guide, is outstanding. He kept our group of 6 interested, intrigued, informed and entertained throughout the entire 1 hour and a bit. We saw and learnt so much. Even my husband who dreads art galleries found the experience enjoyable. Kudos to #Michael - you are a gem of a storyteller. Bless you. Highly recommended.
