I love this place. Friendly staff friendly place and I really love the back area. We can just sit and relax and listen to the birds. Great for people who are creative and in the Arts. Security of very very helpful and if you need help they will give you help with a smile. Every coming to visit Melbourne then definitely come here you will feel great afterwards.

Lovely especially for those cold and rainy afternoons where being outdoors isn't much of an option. Can get a free guided tour. Lasts about an hour and the tour guides do know quite a bit about the art pieces. So if you're into art would suggest the free guided tour. Otherwise you can stroll around and experience the place for yourself. All art comes with a bit of information of what the art piece is so a self-tour is still possible.

An amazing building with a good collection of Indigenous and Australian art, as well as other interesting exhibitions ranging from ancient civilisations to contemporary art. The gift shop has a range of amazing books for a decent price. I particularly loved seeing pieces made by Aboriginal groups I actually worked with.

Awesome place. I have never thought that there is NGV right at Federation Sqr. Apprently it is big inside and explored a bit. I find this part of NGV is more interesting than the big boy over at st kilda rd. However, the showcase some great arts too. What I love the most when I visited the place, there was this art piece where we can dance just like in the disco room. Had fun and will come back for other things!

So many art works from 19th century, 20th century, 21st century, Joseph Brown collection, Indigenous and Political Artworks and more. We spent two hours here and were only planning to spend one. There is so much to look at I would highly recommend. They also have a Lucy McRae limited time exhibition on which was my favourite. An eclectic range of artworks, something for everyone.

Very good exhibits when I went and a lot of it was free. There were about 3 floors of different exhibits from different eras that I could look at for free. The store was very nice as well and had some great pieces of merch that related to the exhibits.

A great place to see modern Australian art and it s free! Check the website for timings of the free tours around the galleries which take place about three times a day. There are also lots of activities for kids - especially during the school holidays.

The exhibition was nothing to write home about. The curator cum warden was eagerly officious in instructing me NOT to open a drawer. When challenged about where is the sign his catch-all answer was "it's a condition of entry". There were no signs saying don't touch and no condition of entry T&C were available at reception. If you're going to justify your existence make sure you know what you're talking about, have the facts to hand - and attend a customer services trading module. Don't bother with this place.

Extremely modern, impressive and very beautiful building. The gallery is fairly new so not comparable with our European galleries. The exhibition hall is very elegant, the gallery is predominantly aboriginal art and contemporary art.

"There's nothing to do!"
Bulldust!
Rock up here alone, with a date or with your family and enjoy the mind expanding exhibits from all parts of the globe.

Interesting John Olsen exhibition on at present.

Interesting John Olsen exhibition on at present.
Looking at his paintings makes you think about their content and your responses to them.
Also, courteous and helpful gallery staff.

Great place to visit, although lately when I visit I've noticed one security guard in particular following me around a little to closely for my liking. I don't know if I look like the type of character that touches the art work or if he's just always super bored when I visit. Either way it's uncomfortable.

Australian art - some excellent paintings in a very contemporary setting. You could easily spend the day here. It's great to see the art together in one place rather than mixed up with the international art - it's a really good idea to have 2 different galleries on different sites. A very interesting visit.

Great centre of indigenous culture and artifects. A great place to spend an afternoon, there is a cafe within the centre and the place is easily accessible and spacious.

Entry is free and an excellent escape for travellers away for the outside elements.
