An incredible experience. I found the Hyde House online and was stunned to learn a collection of fine arts was only 30 minutes away. Rembrandt, Degas, Ruben....some of the great master can be see without the long drive to NYC. Tour the mansion itself to see the Hyde's private collection then check out the attached art museum for a rotating selection of artwork. This is a place worth several visit and I plan to return with my children.

I have always loved the Hyde during non covid-19 times. I also saw the first round of ice sculptures. They were wonderful. Unfortunately, I arrived during the thaw, too late to appreciate the second set. I may may rated five if I caught them.

Great collection, currently showing prints, paintings and ceramics of Rockwell Kent through July 22nd. The building itself is beautiful; particularly the indoor courtyard. Admission was $12.

There isn't food at the museum, but just continue into downtown for plenty of choices! Rock Hill Bakehouse Cafe and Spot coffee are both nice, relaxed locations.

What a treat to be able to come back and visit the Hyde Collection. It is a small museum and located in the quaint town of Glens Falls.

It had quite a few special gems including a Renoir, Rubens, Rembrandt, Seurat, el Greco and even a Picasso.

The guided tour is a must so you can learn more about this private collection.

Don't miss a visit to The Hyde if you are in the Adirondacks.

About Hyde Collection

The Hyde Collection: A Historic House and Art Museum

The Hyde Collection is a renowned historic house and art museum located in Glens Falls, New York. The museum features an impressive collection of Old Masters, 19th century European and American art, as well as modern and contemporary art.

History of the Hyde Collection

The history of the Hyde Collection dates back to the early 20th century when Charlotte Pruyn Hyde and her husband Louis Fiske Hyde began collecting art. They started with a few pieces but soon their passion for collecting grew into a full-fledged collection that included works by some of the most famous artists in history.

In 1952, Charlotte Pruyn Hyde passed away leaving behind her extensive collection to be turned into a public museum. Today, The Hyde Collection is one of the most important cultural institutions in upstate New York.

Art at The Hyde Collection

One of the main attractions at The Hyde Collection is its impressive collection of Old Masters. Visitors can view works by Rembrandt van Rijn, Sandro Botticelli, El Greco, Peter Paul Rubens among others. These paintings are displayed alongside other European paintings from the 19th century including works by Claude Monet and Edgar Degas.

American art from the same period is also on display at The Hyde Collection with notable pieces by Winslow Homer and John Singer Sargent among others. Modernist works from artists such as Pablo Picasso are also featured in this diverse collection.

In addition to its permanent collections, The Hyde Collection hosts temporary exhibitions throughout the year featuring both established artists as well as emerging talents.

Architecture at The Hyde Collection

Apart from its impressive art collections, visitors to The Hype Collections can also marvel at its stunning architecture. Originally built in 1912 for Charlotte Pruyn's father-in-law Samuel Pruyn who was an industrialist; it was designed by architect Henry Forbes Bigelow who incorporated elements from various architectural styles including Georgian Revival and Arts & Crafts movement styles.

Over time additions were made to accommodate more artwork which resulted in an expansion project that added new galleries while preserving much of Bigelow's original design elements such as ornate woodwork details on doors & windows frames which have been restored over time making it one-of-a-kind architectural masterpiece worth visiting for any architecture enthusiast or lover alike!
