A good clean would be helpful and not happy with the wild life
What could be a good pub ruined by poor management and indescribably bad food. We first started going to the Hunters Hall around three years ago when the portions were good and the food as expected from a pub chain. The last three times we have visited the restaurant has been over booked, the garden full of feral children and at least one person has been brought the wrong meal. The portions are now small, I counted 12 chips today, my son was brought fish fingers instead of fish and my eldest was served a microwavable lasagne (by the way, your child cannot have scampi). They only have two highchairs so my littlest was running round instead of eating. This establishment needs to be shaken up fast. They need an actual chef not just someone in the kitchen and they are always horribly understaffed so you need to wait at least 10 minutes for a drink. Avoid at all costs.
Don't know where to start, lasagne burnt at the bottom, the salmon and cheese topping was awful, ploughman's looked fine as did salmon Florentine. Kids' sausages were dry, looked like they'd been reheated from breakfast. Service was slow, poor lad was on his own and he forgot two of the kids'dishes! We had a ask for their ice creams which were included on the children's menu. Won't be going back.
Good place for lunch. Nice garden, not too expensive.
Lovely food, extensive menu, olde world environment. Attentive service. All positive.
Lovely Inn, food very good and bed comfortable. Rooms can do with a paint but other than that a lovely stay here.
Amazing local pub with roaring fires! Can t wait for December 3rd to be back in!
Food was great, atmosphere average and service terrible. Wrong orders and left waiting longer than needed.
Excellent food and a good beer selection - local beers too. There is ample parking.
There are several different rooms inside the pin where you can eat and drink, including a large family friendly restaurant serving a good selection of regular pub fayre.
The bar areas have fires, one is open, the other is a lot burger, both are very welcoming in the winter months. The building is rather old and a great deal of its features are still on tact. Though the amenities (toilets etc) are up to date and clean and tidy.
The pub is dog friendly in the bar areas which I like.
There is an outdoor play area for the kids which looks decent enough and is closed from the main road.
The only slight issue I have ever had is there can be quite a wait to order drinks or food if eating in the bar areas and ha e found it hard to get someone to serve me, but it's o my a small gripe really.
The beef rib with pulled pork is possibly the best meal I have ever had and should I find myself on death row, it would be my request for a last meal ;-)
I like it here, it's by itself but on the main route between Dursley/ Wooton and Tetbury.
I have just returned from my daughter's wedding weekend which was a wonderful and moving occasion for family and friends. We thought we would end the celebrations with a wedding breakfast for a few close family members at the above location. This was booked and confirmed weeks in advance. Unfortunately we had disappointing and upsetting experience well below the standards I would expect for Old English Inns.
We arrived at 09.30 as agreed, a small party of 27, we seated ourselves as there were no staff available. The self service selection of cereals was poorly displayed with no fruit juices available for several guests. Once seated we waited and waited, on my table of four including my two year old grandson, it took 45 minutes for toast to arrive. Coffee and tea didn't arrive so we had to share with another tables. The full english breakfast took another 45 minutes along with the boiled egg for my grandson. The boiled egg was served on a flat plate with no egg cup as they have none. Several guests had no cooked breakfast although others on their table were served. At one point we were told that the delay was due to the kitchen running out of food because the number in our party.
With regards to health and safety, your waitress placed hot plates, coffee and tea pots directly in front of children.
There appeared to be only two members of staff on duty, a young waitress with hearing difficulties and the manager who appeared to be dressed as the gardener. The restaurant was not busy with maybe eight other guests who also appeared to have been waiting for some time. The manager warned one child not to get in his way when she was only returning from the toilet!
I asked to speak to the manager to discuss our dining experience and was given lengthy excuses regarding the problems of serving such a large party of 27 with a full english breakfast. I did point out that we were sitting in a eating establishment with "food of the highest quality" as per your literature. Drive to the A46 and eat at the roadside caravan, the food and service will be better!
Wrote to head office CEO who refunded full payment due to the unacceptable service. Don't make the same mistake, book somewhere else. Bad service, poor management and rude staff.
What happened.... Used to be great around 2 years ago.. we used to visit two or three times a month if we could... changed management and we Have been back several times recently but it's nothing like it used to be .. won't be back anytime soon
Not a great dining experience, waited too long for very mediocre food, short staffed.
I was very pleased with the service I was given.they are a credit to the company . They done all they could to get me sorted . Thanks for everything Pete and sue
Cosy places to sit. Heated by beautiful log fires. Dogs allowed in bar area/ restaurant even though it's carpeted Vegetarian mushroom and stilton pie, fabulous.
Pre-wedding dinner of 25 or so people. Multiple 'Rib eye' steaks came out rancid and appeared to actually be sirloins. Burgers were below average, both the veggie and the meat burgers. Wagyu burger could very well have been just a freezer burger grabbed from the shop. Overnight stay was okay, few amenities, but the rooms were clean. Would not stay again due to food mishaps.
Staff are always pleasant with a smile.. food was fast an priced well
Nice clean cozy room
Friendly staff great breakfast and also choice. evening meal good too would stay again
Lovely, traditional (proper!) pub. We stopped there en route to Woodchester Park & were pleased with the food while the kids played on the slides & swings in the garden. Good selection of food for vegetarians, as well as traditional roasts for the others.
After being let down by another local eaterie that forgot to note our booking we went to Hunters on the off chance they may have a table.Luckily although they were very busy we found a table. The friendly & polite staff did inform us we may have to wait a while for good to arrive. We didn't have a long wait & food was very good value. Will definately return as find it a nice friendly pub.
Great value, friendly staff, clean rooms. But the building is old, so can be a bit loud.
We arrived to a warm welcome. Everything was lovely, the room was spotless, superb menu , and the staff were excellent . We really enjoyed our stay
Natalie made us feel very welcome couldnt have wished for better service.
Lovely garden for drinks in the summer.
Good food , reasonable prices.
Quite regularly pop in for a cider and a steak and ale pie on the way home, its always fairly busy on a sunday.
Food is fairly average but the pub itself is great, open fire and log burning stove with a cider in hand on a winters afternoon more than makes up for it.
The food is great and the staff are polite and friendly, though there is a bit of a wait but it is worth it.
The covid 19 protocols excellent .staff polite and the food cannot fault it.
Reasonably priced food in an olde world setting. Staff friendly and attentive
Pre ordered food as large party but not ready but kept waiting long time and some items not available
Nice old hotel ,comfortable beds clean and tidy. Plenty of free parking.Excelent breakfast . Reasonable prices. Right opposite the Matra center,so very handy for wedding stopovers.would recommend
I had a salad which was gross. The leaves were soggy and wet and the avacado was a bit brown. Was surprised that a chef had made it and not noticed and neither had the staff who carried it out! The beer was nice at least
Very disappointing. On the positive side, staff were friendly & helpful. Food was really poor. Rooms are in a separate building from reception/bar/restaurant, so umbrella needed if it rains. My room faced the busy main road, so traffic noise was disturbing. It also had a disabled en-suite wet room which was not conveniently laid out for an able bodied person - in particular no separate shower, so taking a shower makes entire wet room floor wet. Cannot recommend.
Lovely room. Great food & great welcome to our couple of days away. Very friendly staff.
Food looked lovely, staff very attentive. Children enjoyed the playarea in the garden.
Had a weekend stay with friends, room was good size windows were a little tired but room was comfortable, bathroom clean and warm. We had breakfast and evening meals all were beautifully cooked hot and all served with the covid precautions taken all the time. Couldn't ask for nicer staff. We didn't get to visit all on our list and would be pleased to return. Really nice area lots to see and you don't have to spend hours in the car.
Lovely room and bed. Friendly staff and freshly cooked breakfast to order. I will return if I stay in these parts again
On a wet and windy night, the welcome we got was wonderful. Warm and friendly and very efficient.
We were extremely well looked after throughout our early Valentine's meal.
Definitely worth a visit.
Appalling service and treatment. A disaster of a pre-booked and ordered 70th birthday meal.
After much complaint they agreed to knock of some money from the bill.
Chef was very obliging and cooked sea bass risotto even thought it was Sunday - thank you . Decor needs a makeover - very bitty.
Doesn't need a fortune, just good taste.
The room and service where good however I have never been a fan been a fan of dogs being allowed in restaurants the last thing I want when out for a nice meal is a dog poking it's head my seat begging for my meal.
Lovely pub, fantastic food and Natalie the waitress was amazing. Thank you
Great atmosphere and good service. Food was good, and our kids had an adventure playground to keep them busy while we waited for our food. Highly recommended.
Our stay was over adverse weather conditions, the heating in the pub broke, some of the electricity in the pub did not work due to boiler breaking down, which cannot be helped they did try to have fires but ran low
on wood and coal. The food was reasonable I have paid less money for much better quality.
The rooms were warm and tidy but need lots of TLC they need updating and attention to detail on cleaning, especially the bathrooms.
The staff were lovely and tried really hard, needs more staff at breakfast time. This pub needs a permanent manager who will take care of it and make it a real money spinner,it has so much potential but at the moment is being let down by temporary staff/ management.
THE BEST PUB!! Very dog friendly and people friendly too! The food was amazing and we rolled out after our meal. Service was brilliant and all staff were friendly and easy to talk to. Thank you for a lovely end to our trip of The Cotswolds
Food presentation was bad, food cold not a good visit
Food not great, I had a pie which needed a steak knife and a strong grip to break into. A couple of us thought it was OK but most were underwhelmed.
Wonderful food and cosy country atmosphere at a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend.
Not great..coffee luke warm, the place wasn't really busy but we waited longer for the dessert than we did for the main meal, then half the dessert was missing. The place now look tardy and needs a revamp..
Wont be going back..
Very nice hotel and pub. Good food and great service
This was a warm welcoming place, with heavy snow outside it was very cosy and in a great location for a wedding in kingscoye barn, I would recommend it to anyone, the breakfast was good too
Cozy and authentic pub .. Highly recommended !!! We will definitely be back.
Had a terrible meal here a couple of months ago. Would not consider eating here in the near future
I visit here a few times a year an have done for years, but today I was very disappointed, went in for lunch with a friend, children an our 2 dogs, ordered an paid at the bar, an gave our table number as we were outside so the children could play! The children get free pudding with their meal, so my friend went in to tell them we are ready for them. to be told that the other girl hadn t paid! Meaning me... An that someone would be out to speak to me! No one come, no puddings come for a long time, I went in to ask what was going on, to be told that the person that is coming to speak to me is busy! 2 children sat outside watching their friends eat their pudding. He wouldn t even look at my proof that I had paid, an insisted I wait outside for the other man! but no one come, the puddings did, we were ready to go, so I had to put everyone in the car an go back in worrying that if we left they would think we hadn t paid! To then be told to go out an wait as he was still busy! In the end he said I did pay, which I knew anyway, but still wouldn t look at my proof on Apple Pay...No explanation, no apology! An was spoken to rudely! Will not be returning which is a shame.
Lovely country Inn. Stayed overnight. Breakfast very good. Room OK. Would stay again.
The staff helpful and attentive. They looked like they were busy but still mained pleasant and efficient with service. The food was a good quality, well cooked and presented.
Very friendly staff. Excellent food. Would definitely recommend this place.
Lovely family area and good food! They've done a good job on the Covid front. Well done
Whilst food was ok the place is beginning to look tired and in need of a refurb. General lack of cleanliness and management now a must. Dirty loos, uncleared tables did not lend to the overall experience. Pity as it used to be good
Although the place was very nice aesthetically, don't be fooled by looks.
The pub was severely understaffed, despite being booked for a wedding party. They ran out of pretty much all the Sunday roast options at 5pm (this was the time the party began).
On ordering our food we were told that they didn't have most of the menu. We ordered a beef rib and a lamb shank Sunday roast (wanted to order two lamb shanks). We had 4 other people on our table that ordered after us. They were served before us and got the advertised cauliflower and cheese. When our food finally arrived we did not have cauliflower cheese. No mention nor apology was offered when they brought the food out until my partner pointed it out. The food was very very tasty and I couldn't fault the quality of the produce, however me and another person sat on our table were horrified to find very long hairs in out dish.
Bottom line is the service was painfully slow and they were painfully understaffed despite expecting an extra 60 guests that day. Management could perhaps do with a shake up to improve what could be potentially a great place, but that's not the case so your left incredibly disappointed.
Very disappointed, as always never get through on phone ,Have repeatedly tried to book up ,this has been going on for year appalling customer care .
Unfortunately the vegetables were so over cooked I couldn't eat them .
The accommodation needs updated, feels as if it hasn't been looked after properly, the staff were very nice at the bar but some of the breakfast staff felt very under pressure or rushed and me and my family didn't get a good breakfast service, however everything else has been spot on!
Nice atmosphere with great food... Especially the Sunday roast dinner
Lovely pub/restaurant, great food and great outdoor seating are which makes it great for the summer and a cozy classic pub look inside for a good winter roast dinner.
Good food and good choice of liquid refreshment! Loses one star from me as location is quiet, but this may appeal to some!
