Howard definitely won the 'fastest way to lose business' award today. I am insured with Erie Insurance and wanted to explore the possibility of switching agents. I researched local agents, found a couple possibilities and decided to call Howard first. I got the receptionist, explained my situation and was told that an agent wasn't available but would call later. I got busy with work and it was the only call I made. A few hours later, the Howard agent hadn't called back....instead I get a call from my current agent who said she was advised that I was unhappy and looking to switch agents and wanting to discuss the situation. Without disclosing this to me me or getting my permission and based solely on an exploratory call to a receptionist, Howard seems to have contacted my current agent to discuss my call. My relationship with my agent certainly wasn't Howard's business. I felt like my trust was violated and called Howard for an explanation. I STILL couldn't get the agent to come to the phone but the receptionist explained that they have to disclose when an Erie customer switches agents. I noted that I made a brief, exploratory call, had not switched agents and the possibility of calling my current agent was never disclosed to me. The receptionist said she'd have the agent call me to discuss. He still hasn't called. Trust is pretty fundamental to the agent/customer relationship and literally their first move was to betray my confidence. I've never experienced such an epic fail right out of the gate by a company and I applaud Howard for their excellence.
